Which anime or manga has done the most damage to anime culture/industry?
>>
>>268369902
Dragon Ball literally saved the entire industry.
Trying too hard with your bait / 10
>>
Astro boy
>>
The Boku no Pico trilogy. It basically killed anime when it finished, and that's why there has hardly been any good anime since.
>>
>>268369902
Eva for popularizing tsunderes
Madoka for ruining the magical girl genre
Urusei Yatsura for ruining anime in general
>>
>>268369902
FMAB for bringing in scorefaggotry with zero actual discussion. All the threads about it have been bait because nobody cares about the series, and nobody ever did.

>>268369967
>ruining anime in general
How? Considering you faggots shill for FMAB which released long after?
>>
>>268370206
>how?
For being indirectly responsible for the modern anime rom-com/haremshit genres.
>>
>>268370229
And who's forcing you to watch these? I like UY but don't care about many romcoms beyond a select few.
>>
>>268369947
Dragon Ball itself was great, but shounen is derivative and doesn't dare to innovate.
Sword art online was shit, and what it brought with it is even worse.
Azumanga Daioh itself is great, but it brought derivative copies.
Oldfags don't like to admit Haruhi was a fad, and has less influence than the other 3 in OP's pic.
So definitely SAO that done the most damage.
>>
>>268370366
>doesn't dare to innovate
it does, actually.
>>
>>268369902
The anime that has caused the most damage to anime culture and industry is "Sword Art Online." With its simplistic writing, bland characters, and uninspired storytelling, "Sword Art Online" has set a low bar that has encouraged other creators to adopt similar tropes and clichés.
>>
>>268370366
>Oldfags don't like to admit Haruhi was a fad, and has less influence than the other 3 in OP's pic.
Haruhi influenced school SoL with all the after school club activities.
It influenced school romance/pseudo romance (which is not shoujo). Compare it to all those harem shows like Ichigo 100% and VN adaptations like Shuffle. Coincidentally, all of those are totally forgotten and kids these days think that school anime were always like Haruhi.
It influenced and paved road to Lucky Star and K-On! which influenced basically all the moeshit.
It reasonably fleshed out the "I used to have a boring life but then this girl came into my life and brought colors to it" type of exposition in anime. Mysterious transfer student thing was indeed not new, but all the waifu shows like Bisque Doll can be traced back to here.
It popularized the Kyon clones.
It marked the shift from "I-it's not like I like you or anything!"
It popularized LN adaptations, some are of which turned out to be pretty influential themselves, narratively influenced the self insert shit like Oregairu.
>>
>>268370605
moeKINO you mean, tourist-kun.
>>
>>268370206
>scorefaggotry with zero actual discussion.
That's MAL and the people that shill and seethe about it, retard.
>>
>>268369967
I think you're misdiagnosing the cause a little, it's Takahashi Rumiko's style of tsundere in particular which is the problem, popularised in both urusei yatsura and ranma. I think asuka is already a symptom of the popularity and still far better of a character than the kugimiya rie type tsunderes that followed.

Anyway, most real damaging anime would be whatever kyoanI made that the arsonist thought was plagiarised.
>>
>>268370366
>but shounen is derivative and doesn't dare to innovate.
There are more shounen outside of the wsj that are just normal medium length sol stories or sci-fi/fantasy stories that don't focus on the type of pacing that DB has promoted
>Azumanga Daioh itself is great, but it brought derivative copies.
Azumangah daioh was itself inspired by other similar anime, what are you talking about.
>>268369967
>Madoka for ruining the magical girl genre
I can count on 2 hands the so called "madoka clones". PMMM didn't ruin anything.
>>
>>268370605
>It influenced and paved road to Lucky Star and K-On! which influenced basically all the moeshit.
Moe has existed long before those. Are you acting like a tourist on purpose?
>>
>>268370645
And guess what? These are the only kind of people left mentioning it. Nobody else cares, it's long since over, nothing left to discuss. This series is only a bait-machine now.
>>
>>268370716
He literally uses the /dbs/ term and calls series that focuses on a girl, "waifu shows". What do you expect?
>>
>>268369902
zero no tsukaima
>>
>>268369967
Tsundere were already a massively popular trope far before Eva.
>>
>>268370733
>Nobody else cares, it's long since over, nothing left to discuss
This is only an issue on /a/, where you have at least one obsessed schizo that squats on the board 24/7 to make the same spam posts at the simplest mention of FMA, killing the interest of anyone hoping to have actual discussion. It is not a fault of the series itself.
>>
>>268371113
There are two threads up about it now, and both are either retarded scorefagging, or same stale retarded bait. It clearly shows that there is nothing worth of discussing left in this series anymore.
>>
>>268369902
Dragon Ball was deliberately a brainless rip-off of Hokuto no Ken.
It just accelerated the paring down of the shonen market at the time.
>>
>>268371165
Nobody cares about your boomershit.
Dragon Ball took inspiration from multiple sources of media, it wasn't some kind of "le brainless ripoff" like the crap you watch.
>>
>>268369902
Love Hina destroyed the romcom genre for decades. It still hasn’t entirely recovered.
>>
>>268369902
this one sparked the single most lethal domestic terror attack in modern Japanese history since the Aum Shinrikyo gas attacks.
>>
>>268370716
influenced =/= created, retardbro
>>
>>268371450
But how can they influence " all the moeshit" when they themselves were influenced by older moe shows and didn't add anything particularly new to the formula. Also stop it with the /dbs/ lingo.
>>
>>268371151
Thank you for proving my point.
>>
>>268371386
errr wrong image it was obviously the gay bow shooting anime.
>>
>>268369902
SNK or SAO
Both brought in the worst types of people and anime quality has been going down since they aired.
>>
>>268371194
What multiple sources, exactly? It started off as just a childish wuxia story and lost all the fantasy aspects on the way.
Torishima, Dragon Ball's first editor up to the Saiyan Arc, himself talks about how Dragon Ball was just axebait until he told Toriyama to start copying Hokuto no Ken's style and get rid of most of the 'Toriyama-isms'.

DB was always derivative lowest common denominator trash.
>>
>>268369902

fillershit. this swing stuff wasn't that prevalent in the manga

Your favorite anime. And all of /a/'s favorites for that matter.

It's between Sao and Azumanga.
My vote is for Sao because at least some cgdct shows are actually good and Azumanga itself was good and I cannot say the same about Sao and it's isekai mmo haremshit cancer ilk.
>>
>>268369902
>>268370366
Dragon Ball was fun early on and Saiyan/Freeza stuff was also still enjoyable but the further it went the more obvious and repetitive the Elder Scrolls-tier "villain scaling" became. I don't think it really caused damage via creating battle-shounen though. The concept that came after it actually improved on the formula initially but often had the same issue of them overstaying their welcome, but that's on them. I don't think DB is to blame for that.

Haruhi didn't do anything at all. It's not like it invented school stuff or such. What exactly has it supposedly caused? I don't see it.

What exactly has SAO caused? It got initially self-published by the author on his own website (not an aggregate site), then he used his personal contacts to get published on the most elitist LN label in Japan. In terms of characters and "tropes" it's like a combination of your average 2000s battle harems (with more focus on the MC than usual though) and the "survival genre" like BTOOOM and Eden no Ori.
If your insinuation is that it's responsible for isekai, then you are flat out wrong. They are completely different. The only ones that might be somewhat reminiscent of SAO are actually 2000s style battle-harems that just jumped on the bandwagon and slapped the isekai premise onto them, but they lack the chaotic "everything goes" aspect of isekai and isekai-adjacent fantasy.

Azu Manga Daioh? Don't know about it because I only very rarely watch CGDCT.

Without Haruhi, you wouldn't get snarky male leads like you in Oregairu, Bunny Girl Senpai, or any other rom-com light novels
>>
SAO was good
>>
>>268369902
sao, there where still LN adaptations before haruhi but in general sao made a bigger damage
>>
>>268369943
>haruhi
Arguably the most overrated "nothingburger: the anime" in history, not even the side characters are redeemable except for Nagato and Mikuru. It's absolute trash that was carried by marketing back in the day.
>Dragon Ball
Saved everything related to the industry. Excluding GT which isn't canon and Super, it's unironically a masterpiece and anyone bashing Toriyama's work is either a troll or completely oblivious about the medium.
>SWA
A big push for the isekai boom. There's not much to say here, nothing outstanding or worth mentioning, the art is decent but the story is not, as expected of most Isekai releases, it's a trend setter at best, but responsible for a lot of misguided attention from the western audience in the end.
>Azumanga Daioh
Pioneer of the modern Ishayikei genre, paved the way for a lot of future moe releases and did breath new life for the SoL genre as a whole during the early 2000s.
The only criticisim that receives comes from people that can't understand the concept of healing at all and should indulge more into Japanese culture instead of raging at something when they don't even understand it in the first place.

Kyon is nothing like these faggots though. People never quite replicated Haruhi.
>>
>>268370605
>influenced school SoL with all the after school club activities
80s and 90s series already did that a thousand times better.
>influenced school romance/pseudo romance
Slam Dunk? Ranma?
>It influenced and paved road to Lucky Star and K-On!
Lucky Star simply latched onto haruhi's popularity, it could have been any other popular show instead.
K-On didn't need a thing from haruhi, it paved it's own road and helped other high quality animation and SoL/healing shows to flourish.

Haruhi was just popular, there's nothing noteworthy about it in the slightest if you look at it without prejudices, it's a bland show filled with random plot devices that lead to more random nothingness.
>>
>>268374984
>A big push for the isekai boom. There's not much to say here, nothing outstanding or worth mentioning, the art is decent but the story is not, as expected of most Isekai releases, it's a trend setter at best, but responsible for a lot of misguided attention from the western audience in the end.
The only ones who say that are those who know neither SAO, nor isekai, nor the 2000s battle-harem that SAO is actually based on and only prattle on what some ecelebs used as clickbait material.
On the contrary, isekai authors in the early stages of the 2010s isekai trend actually showed outright disdain towards SAO.
Overlord had the statement that only working adults who "contribute to society" were allowed into the Ainz Ooal Gown guild, not NEETs or school students or such.
Shield Hero made a mockery of Kirito with the Sword Hero who was all about grinding, making use of "exploits" and beating bosses, and then moving to the next boss, in turn dooming entire regions due to ignoring necessary fallout measures, causing disasters like the zombie dragon that were far worse for the local populace than the actual slain dragon who was just keeping to himself.
These two are among the top 10 isekai franchises, so they can certainly be considered as "representatives" of isekai.
In contrast the arguments in favor of SAO being the "cause of the isekai trend" are absolutely retarded and half-assed.
>hurr hurr MUH black hair! Kirito totally invented how an average less-stylized-than-in-battle-shounen Japanese teenager looks!
>hurr hurr MUH SAO invented OP MCs, even though Kirito jobs just as often as he is OP!
And other such retarded statements. There is nothing concrete. It's just insisted upon again and again in hopes people will just say "yeah, it's true because everyone says so!"

Naruto.
All the nu shonencrap are Naruto clones (MHA, JJK, KNY, Black Clover)
most normalfags that ruined the anime community got into anime because of Naruto and its clones.

Naruto contributed to the downfall in quality for anime adaptations and made them safe to please the “faithful to the manga” crowd.
Before the 2000s, anime adaptations had more freedom to deviate from the source material and make the anime version better.
But due to Naruto's horrible pacing and filler, the responses were that anime adaptations should be as close to their source material as possible
and everything anime original is le bad. Instead of referring to the real issue that Pierrot is shit studio and the source material sucked.

Also Naruto ruined anime openings for all kind of anime, not only shonencrap.
Anime openings used to be varied from the city pop of Urusei Yatsura, militaristic ops of super robot shows,
artistic ops like Patlabor TV series, Cowboy Bebop and Eva.
Most anime ops post-Naruto are basically running characters, obnoxious J-pop or J-rock songs, characters standing still in the background,
having an “epic” fight and then falling from the sky or some shit.

This isn't a shounen issue, this is a problem with anime as a whole. You see it with every genre/demographic: comedy, isekai, sci-fi, mecha, romance, harem, action, shounen, shoujo, you name it. In fact you could argue it's not even an anime/manga issue but just a media issue in general. It's just more noticeable with anime/manga because of how much of it there is
>>
Whatever that popularized isekai
>>
>>268384078
>It's just more noticeable with anime/manga because of how much of it there is
Nope. Anime/manga are pretty young. It's even more obvious in other media that has years of history and even more slop than anime/manga.

Dragon Ball by far.
>>
>>268378159
Tbf overlord was only popular because it was SAO but the MC is actually the bad guy. I do mostly agree with you though.

>>268378610
>Naruto contributed to the downfall in quality for anime adaptations and made them safe to please the “faithful to the manga” crowd.
You still had a lot of adaptations that went anime original leading all the way into the mid 10s, it only changed in the late 10s/early 20s. Take blue exorcist for example, going anime original completely messed it up. It was always a bad idea and often ruined the chance of the anime getting a sequel. Anime original stuff was frowned on a far back as Urusei Yatsura where Rumiko hated what they were doing with her series or Kimagure Orange Road where Izumi hated the anime original movie endings.
>Also Naruto ruined anime openings for all kind of anime, not only shonencrap.
Naruto just used the popular bands of the time who also happened to do other anime, it didn't start anything. Besides there are still other types of anime OP's out there, you just need to watch more anime.
>characters standing still in the background,
having an “epic” fight and then falling from the sky or some shit.

Love Hina

>>268384500
>Tbf overlord was only popular because it was SAO but the MC is actually the bad guy
Now matter how hard I try to consider this, I just see no similarities whatsoever between the two aside from "VR games exist". Not only is Yggdrasil completely different from Aincrad (and the other games and even the simulation from Alicization) in terms of game mechanics, but Overlord doesn't even take place in the VR game aside from the prologue and some occasional flashbacks and there was also never any death game in Yggdrasil. Kirito and Ainz are nothing alike in terms of personality and even the side characters have no resemblances.
As for resemblances in terms of story? None whatsoever. The real world segments have no overlaps as well since Overlord's Earth is a futuristic dystopian society setting.
Are you saying that there are ACTUALLY that many superficial retards who'd believe they are truly almost the same? Well, considering how many retards still insist that "SAO created the isekai trend", I can't entirely deny the possibility that there ARE indeed so many retards out there equating SAO with Overlord, but it would likely be the ones who didn't watch, much less read either of them.
