You didn't want to switch groups mid-show back then because the translations and quality of the video varied a lot. At least by sticking with one group you got consistency.

The bulk of the early fansubs on the internet were simply VHS captures from the 80s-90s. Many were set in their ways and would only produce stuff on tape which you had to order from them and wait weeks for it to show up in the mail. Often times getting a 2nd->3rd generation copy that looked horrible. Then someone would take those and capture them and share them on IRC.I digress. Several hours just to get one episode with the risk of the download getting D/Ced halfway through and having to start over. Download anime didn't really take off until the mid-2000s. We had torrents by 2001 or so but there weren't that many people watching fansubs. Maybe like 500-600 total in the entire world. If you had 100 people in an IRC channel downloading an episode you were considered to be one of the larger groups back then.

It also uses RAWs from an HDTV reairing of the show, so it's the best release for Motto quality wise. The subs are occasionally out of sync by a couple milliseconds or so, but it's not that big of a deal. The s4s subs flat out change some of the lines to be completely inaccurate (specifically in Motto 14), which is why I'd recommend you not watch that release.

It was a cash grab for Kotedore people to see them finally do something. Infact most of the novel is centered around Doremi finding herself through those around her. Still helping anywhere she can while beating herself down. The magic is a bit shoehorned at times I will admit...
