Chapter 108Previous >>269022878After hearing of Matsumoto's passing, Katsuko rushed to the hospital where she was encountered by his son and daughter as well as their lawyer. Matsumoto had no will and though Katsuko was considered his common law wife, due to his surviving heirs she was not set to inherit anything from him and she was also informed that his family did not want her attending the funeral. She was offered what amounted to a severance but rejected it and later drunkenly told Shima that with Matsumoto gone, she was thinking of selling her restaurant and opening a smaller one in Tokyo to be closer to him.But Hanayagi came in soon after and professed his love for her, even saying that if Katsuko agreed to go out with him then he'd let Sunlight publish a major collection of kabuki recordings but if not, he'd have his daughter pulled from there. She later called Shima to talk to him but Shima was with Chizuru who was being quite forward and nosy and so couldn't talk long. Later on, Sunlight was informed that Hanayagi would be allowing Sunlight to publish his recordings seemingly answering his ultimatum to Katsuko... much to her dismay.
Oh dear, how will this go? Well as the next chapter follows directly from here I'll just post that today as well in a few minutes.
Chapter 109
That's it for today. Shima's having success at Sunlight thanks to Nyacco and is now free and clear to date Katsuko. So everything should be hunky dory, right?
bump
>>269093367What will it take for her to give up?
>>269092905Majima everywhere
>>269094039Some different dick showing interest in her I imagine. She's just desperate because she thinks nobody wants a chunky girl.
>>269094468they should introduce her to one of the american boomers they're about to sign up
Hatsushibabros, our stock is falling...
>>269094912The shounenshitters seasonalfags seem to have gone berserk this weekend for some reason. Their spam is out of control.
>>269093367Thank you for posting.
bumping so i can read
>>269093367Thanks OP. Could this be considered Shima luck striking yet again?
>>269092229https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC0RanPRr_0>>269092339we're going to reach 2000's Japan, huh...>>269092842https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWbkff1xijA>>269093123pretty topical for a Presley-titled chapter>>269093367thanks, OP. Surely, nothing will go wrong between these women
>>269097897>we're going to reach 2000's Japan, huh...We already are. This is 2000 going into 2001, 2001 is just considered the first year of the 21st century since everywhere uses the Gregorian calender which, of course, has no Year 0 going from 1 BC to 1 AD.That said, 2001 is a pretty significant year for Japan since it's when Koizumi became PM. Although the LDP doesn't exist in the Shimaverse.
Bump
>>269093367>So everything should be hunky dory, right?Of course, nothing bad will happen!
>>269098483>Although the LDP doesn't exist in the ShimaverseThat's a big difference. What was the divergence point?
I thought the manga was going to start to sunset in quality but he's still got it
>>269102524I don't think there's a divergence point per se. Everything from the Anpo protests to now (2000) seems to match Japanese history pretty closely. They probably just can't use the LDP's actual name for legal reasons; sort of like how Hatsushiba is a stand-in for Panasonic. The governing political party in Shima Kosaku is probably the LDP in all but name.
>>269102524No divergence, just a WcDonald's type of thing. I think in the Shimaverse the LDP equivalent is simply called the Democratic Party.
>>269092662>>269092692damn this is some super spy shit
>>269102640We are not even in the middle of Shima's saga yet
>>269106246>We're are still in the second series out of 9We are going to stay here for a while folks
>>269107169There's only 4 more volumes of this one left. The next 3 series leading up to President are 19 volumes combined which is only slightly longer than Section Chief. President and Chairman are 16 and 13 volumes each, Senior Advisor is 6 and the current ongoing series (Outside Director) is at 4.
>>269107314>There's only 4 more volumes of this one left.I mean, when you consider we are get one volume around every other month, we are going to keep reading this series for a many years still
>>269107763>>269107314I will have to do a personal recap bi-annually to keep track at this point
>>269107314Is this the shortest series out of them all? I imagine the spin-offs and hiatus took a chunk out of it.
>>269092868This is gonna turn ugly.
>>269092662>>269092692I love when this series gets into espionage and spy shit. it's very believable, super cool, and always for the pettiest shit.
>>269092988>>269093018>>269093041damn, this guy's a pro
>>269110367that is probably it
>>269111662Damn, we really do have a long way to go.
Solar Electric was here. Hatsushiba are suckers.
>>269116698Kek
>page 10
>>269092339weren't they already in the 21st century? The other singer did her event to celebrate it.
>>269092312>if you're taking elevation into account, the first place you can see it on the mainland is from the peak of mt. Fujithe absolute GOAT does it again
>>269119081Might've been 1999 but my memory on it is fuzzy.
>>269111488The author had a detective series before this which is where Kogure came from.
Mad Men, Japan:
>>269119081Again, technically centuries start in the 01 year and not the 00 (1901, 2001, etc.) because the Gregorian calender (and the Julian one from which its based) goes from 1 BC to 1 AD. Since zero as a number didn't really exist until well after the fall of the western Roman Empire.
>>269121205you prompted me to see what else Hirokane did and boy did that man made manga, there's like 3 different detective series. but what really caught my attention was this special murder mystery featuring shima! not scanlated anywhere though...
Almost there.
>>269111662>We hit the big hiatus at the end of this volumeIt's either something really conclusive, or something to worry about.
>>269123571not at all, that image is outdated. look at the left, we're in 2000/2001
Chapter 110
In hindsight I don't know why Mangame didn't see this coming. Would have made more sense to try and remain in his position long enough to recall Shima and give him a board position before stepping down.Anyway, time for another Shima exile arc.
That's it for today. Next time, it's time to end the year 2000.
>>269123571the big hiatus was at the start of division chief, we're at chapter 110/163 now
>>269125281dang old bastards
>>269125555The hiatus was because he was doing Kaji Ryuusuke's Agenda at the time. There's an old and very incomplete translation of it and a new one that started but both of them are pretty bad (new one being slightly better) with literal early 2000s style typsetting and shit. Old one is very ESL, new one seems a bit ESLish (but not as severely) and does some weird things like replacing the Z's with J's... which I get Z/J is like an L/R thing but it results in weird stuff like, say, the name Tanizaki being rendered as Tanijaki instead.
>>269125183after reading the recent chapters of Nikaidou hell golf seeing this is stressing me out
>>269125340Thanks OP. Katsuko and Shima aren't meant to be together for long. And looks like the decline of Sunlight is about to begin.
>>269111662Kinda hilarious how Hunter x Hunter or Made in Abyss babies whine as if they know anything about hiatus hell.
>>269125340Thank you for posting.
>>269129285To be fair it wasn't on hiatus, it was over. There was never meant to be a sequel and those random smatterings of chapters in the '90s were basically intended to be small bonus stories. It wasn't until after Kaji Ryuusuke ended in 1998 that it was decided to make a new Shima series and the chapters went from one off stories to part of the new series. It's why the first dozen or so chapters of Division Chief feel much more episodic in comparison.
>>269093367Oh, that got resolved quickly>>269124996Right on time for the next plot development! It's extra infuriating because you just know stupid sabotage like this happens irl all the time.
>>269130438It's not quite "sabotaging my business in a misguided attempt to prop myself up" thing but that's pretty much the entire point of corporate raiders and vulture capitalists. I keep meaning to read/listen to Lights Out which is about how Jack Welch and Jeff Immelt destroyed GE.
>>269125340>it's time to end the year 2000Y2K had it coming.

>>269093367i cant believe shima isnt banging takaichi's fat ass. she must be a tiger in the sheets, i just know it.
>>269133696No fatties rule
>>269133926she's still on the chubby side, it's okay.
>>269133696Takaichi did a bunch of crazy shit already, I fear what could afterwards if she gets a taste of Shima's D.
thank you for the dump OP
>>269134077Seems like sleeping with chubby chicks is becoming more common for Shima as he gets older.
>>269136347Only chubbos he's been with are the enka singer and the middle aged woman from Las Vegas.
>>269136977That's a lot more than before though
>>269138095The Vegas woman was volume 3 of Section Chief though.
bumping

Ganbare, H/a/tsuhiba!
>>269139412Arigato.
>>269138426That's true. I guess there have been exceptions since the early days.
Men, we a need plan to raise our stock. Our current market position is untenable.
>>269125281>Anyway, time for another Shima exile arc.And Katsuko just moved to Tokyo, great timing
>>269125281>time for another Shima exile arcIt seems to a recurring event for salarymen.

Chapter 111
>>269158435>>269158467how many times Shima ran to meet a girl
Okay it won't let me post for some reason? Keeps giving me "connection error" when I try to upload.
Okay what the hell, it's letting me post without a picture but erroring when I try to post with one.
>>269158584That's how he stays in shape
Okay it seems like it was page 13 specifically for some reason and saving it as a jpg fixed it? I don't know, that's weird.
It forgot the little note but this is the end of the chapter/volume.
Could have posted this with chapter 99 but then I would have been spoiling Katsuko's return.
No idea which character was modelled after the real singer. And said real singer doesn't have any info about them, so I guess they never had a career in the end.
That's it for volume 9. Only 4 more volumes left and it looks like Shima's about to get exiled again. I wonder where he'll go?Well, the volume covers kind of spoiler it... It's Kyushu because the Fukuoka PayPay Dome is on the volume 11 cover.
>>269159142already? It felt super short
>>269159283>Anyway, here's Wonderwall
>>269159419>spoilerThey really wanted him gone uh
>>269159419at least it's not taxi driving
>>269159764he's gonna get his very own orphanage
>>269160560The inkwork in this series is pretty amazing ngl from what I've seen, it just reads like a manga that would've been a TVDrama in the 90s.
>>269160968It does have a few drama adaptations.
I wish someone would pick up Hanzawa Naoki. It's basically Shima: Bank Edition. Adaptation of a drama which is adapted from a book by a guy who worked in the banking industry. The drama is supposed to be really, really good.
>>269159142it was good, thanks op.
>>269159419Thanks, OP. Nice trips chapter.
>>269159231>>269159315pretty awesome he went to the lengths to document this kind of stuff in person.
>>269159419Thanks OP

>>269166591>We're still pending TL's for those volumes, right?Yeah, this was the most recent volume released.
>>269160968what I like in this series is how different the facrs are, there's almost no case of sameface
>>269161778I want Kaji Ryuusuke's Agenda translated. it starts with a lot of energy, and the mc is very different than shima, he's more of an actual ass hole
>>269169183>he's more of an actual ass holeHow does the story treat him for that?
>>269159593They'll regret that.
>>269159419Thanks, OP.
>>269167745NTA but good to know.
>>269161778Is there a good resource to check which dramas are subbed?
>>269112908Don't worry, we'll do this together
>>269180013
>>269160560>he's gonna get his very own orphanagelmao
>>269161778How many volumes?
Toritsu paid for this space.
>>269161529Shima has multiple adaptations?
Is it over?
>>269189962Don't forget the SNES gamehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z0-mdinKPA
>>269193533That's amazing.
>>269193533>>269195209I unironically think shima vidya in the vein of a GB-era pokemon clone would be neat, those games already had really good tilesets for japanese office and home interiors.
>>269171341he's forced to pick up the political office his estranged father left behind after a brutal accident

>>269196480That's pretty intense.
Keep seeing the thumbnail in the catalog and thinking that someone made a Columbo manga with a more handsome version of Columbo.
>>269199411A Shima and Columbo crossover could have potential. There's more than enough crime in the manga for Columbo to investigate.
>>269200665>There's more than enough crime in the manga for Columbo to investigate.Mind you it would have to be a murder for Columbo to be involved.
>>269200862It's rare but it has happened before.
>>269159419Thank you for posting.
>>269164497It's some next level stuff for a mangaka.
