What anime do you consider a CRT TV absolutely mandatory for? Lain is the obvious pick but it really isn't complete without a tube and shitty VHS recordings of the episodes.

There is only one answer to this question and it is Kino's Jourrney.
So much so that the director had scanlines permanently burned into the frames.
Due to this upscaling the original Kino is hard
Kino was made for CRT and nothing else.

Never understood the appeal of retro larp. Watching Lain on a Trinitron is almost as embarrassing as setting up responsive bias lighting. It's one step further than enabling a filter on your emulator, which is already a step too far. The 90s and 2000s are gone and no ritual will hold a candle to the memory. And if you're too young to have even owned a CRT, jesus fucking christ.

My Mitsubishi trinitron clone can natively display 480p with really good image quality
If I tried watching a DVD release on an LCD, it would either be a blurry mess or watercolored beyond recognition depending on what upscaler I used
I won't do it if the anime is not 4:3 and has a 1080p release though

8bit always had a great sound, and whoever thought otherwise was a total tastelet

Using old technology's limitations as inspiration to create something new and modern isn't the same as watching old anime on an old CRT. Referencing the past while firmly in the present isn't the same as trying too hard to relive it.

Do you need a TV for that? I thought they only talk to the point of falling asleep. A radio would suffice.

Nobody does this except for the faggot OP, the old CRT simply looks better because new tech is complete junk in this specific edge case

the underlying sentiment of 'as soon as something is gone, you miss it' is the same

No, its crap, the average 8bit system could do like 5 sound waves total. The music was good because composers knew how to work within the limitations of the medium.

Anime is best on 110 inch plasma tv scaled 8k
>>

Yet, I don't miss shitty dvd releases with frame interlacing.

Then if the medium can do wonders, then it's good and people didn't knew how to use it beforehand. 8bit is great to ears.
