The ending was a little rushed but completely serviceable with no unreasonable turns. Suicide as a solution was always something pushed on Reiji and others by their abusive partners. Reiji didn't decide he wanted to die on his own, he was put up to it by Nagi(who herself was just being used by Esemori as a proxy)They simply needed to escape their abusive environments but their youth and japanesey obligation precluded it for too long.

Why are some people still seething that the ending was not schizo? I liked it and am kinda glad a lot of the cast got a decent and relaxing ending. I’m happy Yuri found a new Reiji for her rape dungeon and Yuri got prison as well. For a 26 page chapter, it closed most ends in a fitting way and considering how shitty the characters lives were. I was glad to see them get some sort of happy ending, aside from yuri haha hopefully the volume epilogue will add a bit more closure for the zoomers and big fans. I’ll look forward to it.

It's funny, you can't 100% say for sure whether Reiji is truly Esemori and Yuko's child or not. We know Esemori is kind of a schizo (Seeing or thinking things that weren't the case). He did say he was infertile going by his first marriage experience but Yuko was also having trouble conceiving so maybe it was a compatibility problem or some romantic shit like pregnancy was only possible between the two. The truth is, Yuko has been shown to be a more reliable narrator than Esemori, and all this time she believed HIM to be the father. I suppose she asked Esemori one last time to fully confirm it. Esemori on the other hand doesn't seem to have any recollection of being Reiji's true father and possibly went along with Yuko to make her happy. A sudden out of nowhere Esemori relative showing up is just as crazy if not more than Esemori truly being the father so I'm left wondering. Seems like Ryo wanted to leave it ambiguous till the very end, Personally, as much as i want Reiji to be their child, I'm gonna go with Esemori just entertaining Yuko's wishes. Is a bittersweet ending for their love story but one i think makes more sense.

Weird ending. At the end Yuko and Esemori were the main characters, Sensei, Chako and Gen the best supporting characters, Nagi a plot device, Reiji just whatever. I think the author just gave up on him.
Running through it as its finally done, this series is the finest suffering porn lmao its incredible. Laugh as you will from the trite misunderstandings and lack of ability to properly communicate the important things from the cast, its written in a way that everyone's reactions are still very human and believable, and the author managed to knead an impressive layered plot into this suffering too. I think the Esemori past arc was by far the high point of the series, but all in all I'm rather pleased with the ending but we do need a little something more fitting a finale for a series with such insane emotional highs and lows.

The manga forges his ego and has him finally begin act out by regaining self-awareness. But development is also messy and uncertain. Someone who lived their life the same way for 17 years cannot change easily, so Reiji flip flops back and forth. This was fine...up to a point. But Ryo fucked up by having Reiji fall back to suicide AFTER gaining his resolution during the Gen fiasco. This was 2/3rds of the way into the manga, and Reiji getting the knowledge and experience he needed vicariously through Esemori. Ryo should not have backtracked here of all places if her ending was to make Reiji get a new lease on life. He should have moved forward from that point, actually living up to his words and making this ending more believable. That is where Ryo messed up. Just spinning her wheels on several characters.
