Why did Medabots never gain popularity in the West? I checked Japan Twitter and it seems pretty healthy there
>>
>>270628319
It's cool as heck. I like it's niche status because the fanbase is chill.

i wish medabots and zoids did take off, I still pick up kit sets for both. i think most remember it as a morning show before school

There's a new popular medarot mobile game(yes gacha shit) but it's pretty neat and does tons of collaborations so you see Digimon/megaman themed medabots and stuff.

Nah I remember it had some fans while it was running on disney.

That sequel, Medabots Spirits helped to kill the hype. Original anime was unironically kino

Yeah, typically the case for the Japanese versions. When gacha arrives in the west they are toned down heavily due to regulations, so here's hoping IF it comes.

I don't know if it was the cause or effect of Medabot's lack of presence in the west but the fact that practically none of the games released outside of Japan feels like a huge part. As far as the average burger is concerned, Medabots was just a decent early 2000s anime that disappeared into the ether after it ended
>>
>>270628319

Bad localization of the games. And a shitty sequel anime killed its momentum. It was also competing with Pokemon, Digimon, and shortly after Yugioh, which kept it from catching on.

>>
>>270628319
It does have its own pretty decent fanbase, but that fanbase exists mostly for the anime so naturally the fact that the anime ended 20 years ago kinda dampens the discussion about it. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people didn't even know Medarot had video games let alone started as a video game franchise.

It's hard to find a poorly designed medabot unless they are mixed parted, the OG's are clean and even the newer stuff is decent
>>
>>270649262
My only issue is that the design concepts are cooler than the finished products. The shapes are always reduced to simple geometries to make them more suitable for cheap mass produced toys.

It was a toy anime everybody knew of at the time of digimon+pokemon. It had no content after that so everybody forgot it.

Medabots wasn't on the same level of Pokemon but it was fairly popular during the first season. The games were released way too late after the initial hype of the series had ended, and I think the Spirits season was airing when they came out. Which that season sucks and it was airing on ABCFamily so next to no one was watching it anyway. Also I want to say Natsume didn't give the GBA game a large print run either. I wish we had gotten later games.

I have a question for you anons who were in elementary school when Pokemon came out.
When I was a kid everyone around my age watched Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblade, Medabots, Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Masters, Zoids, and Monster Rancher.
No one I knew had some retarded take like only Pokemon is good and everything else is a ripoff or sucks, but the Internet tells me that hating everything that was not Pokemon was the norm.

So anons were people your age as a child tribalistic about Pokemon?
>>
>>270656348
No. All this brand war is waged by fatfuck manchilds.
>>
>>270628319
It had to compete with Yigioh, Pokémon, and Bayblade. It also aired when western animation was actually good, so it really didn't stand a chance. It was the same with Zatch Bell.
>>
>>270657237
It's more like...
>people could play Yu Gi Oh with their friends
>same as Pokemon
>same as Beyblade
>but nothing for Medarots
>>
>>270656348
When I was a kid there were some Digimon vs Pokemon wars on the playground but most kids generally liked both.
>>
>>270656348
No. I remember after tennis camp we often put Medabots on the TV in the lobby when we were waiting for our parents to pick is up. The time slot was perfect for us. Pokemon definitely was more popular than Digimon though.
>>
>>270656348
nope. although there was a general consensus on my schoolground that crush gear turbo wasn't as good as beyblade, nobody really gave a shit
that kind of tribalism only emerges when you get into online spaces were media fans act like sports fans, which I can only imagine was born from star trek fans arguing about if OG or TNG is better
though now you've reminded me of this one craig kid that swore up and down that the pokemon world used to be normal but then one day all the normal animals disappeared and pokemon came down from space

Me and a bunch of friends from school loved it back when we were kids. My mom even made me a custom Medabots birthday cake with custom decorations she made herself using images from online and including a figure she crafted of Metabee to go on the cake. She went all out and I never even knew she possibly knew what Medabots was at the time or that she had paid any attention to my interests.
>>
>>270656348
No we weren't tribalistic back then. You watched what you liked but no one was actively going out of their way to shit on a show that they didn't like or watch. And honestly every show had SOMETHING cool about it so it wasn't like there was anything that was universally regarded as shit.
>>
>>270659308

>>
>>270659824
The late 90 and early 2000 were ripe for those kind of series, a little sad that only yugioh and pokemon seem to be the only survivors with all the rest just being fads of the moment at best, but I guess is to be expected with merchandise for kids driven franchises
>>
>>270660424
Digimon is doing...ok I guess. Its still getting games, anime, and merch. Weather or not its good or not.
>>
>>270661098
Has there been anything since that web novel or whatever?
No anime currently, no new v-pets to my knowledge, no new vidya, and I think the card is dead (in the west) too
>>
>>270639158
Bakugan came out right around the time I stop giving a damn about kid toy commercial anime and didn't know anyone my age who played or watched it which was early teens. Not only that but didn't really see the potential at the time when I first saw it mostly because there were other shows just like it in the past that were a dime a dozen and weren't that big. Basically anything that wasn't pokemon, yugioh, digimon, monster rancher, Beyblade never really took off, at least in the west.

I remember there was Dual Masters, Beat-a-mon(not really sure what the real name was), Mon Colloy Knights, etc. so there was a bunch of monster/card collecting series that never made it big so Bakugan to me just seemed like another one that wouldn't last long. Looking back I kind of wish I played the games to these series just to see what they were like.
>>
>>270659308
crossovers are the final nail in the coffin of any series
>>
>>270661675
My problem with Bakugan is I could never parse the rules from the show.
Even Yu-Gi-Oh made more sense
>>
>>270661724
More than half of these children toy commercials anime made no fucking sense. Maybe that's the appeal, make it so complicated that kids make up their own rules.
>>
>>270661608
I don't know what web novel you're referring to but digimon just had an anime back in 2021 that ended last year and a recent movie relating to 02. Plus Digimon has never been a series to release an anime every year, there's always been breaks.

At least in the anime version rare medals are remnants of an ancient race of beings that over time turned themselves into machines in pursuit of further strength for their unending wars and the rare medals are what remains of the ancient warriors, with the regular medals being man made copies of them for use in modern Medabots

Something I remember reading about the anime, is that masked thief and local part timer at some store, was supposed to be the MC of the first ever game grown up, and the medal he gives to the MC of the anime being HIS metabee from the games that after some shit that happened and caused a lot of damage lost his memories of their adventure, so this was his way of allowing him a second life without the guilty of the disaster since it seemed that metabee was the cause of it.

No, not really. My school had alot of asians, and yugioh was the hottest thing for like 3 years. The first one or two years that the yugioh anime was out had the majority of boys in my school playing. Beyblade was hot for a couple semesters or so before people got bored. Noone really played the pokemon card game (it just wasn't as intuitive or fun as yugioh as a card game), but alot of people played the video games and had pokemon battles. Digimon was less popular but some kids, like me, did watch the show. I don't remember anyone getting into medabots or zoids, but personally I liked the shows, especially zoids.

DUDE, I ROCK
>>
>>270656348
Digimon and Pokemon had a bit of a rivalry but it wasn't really that bad and people that pushed it were kind of looked down on. I don't know about other schools but by the time Digimon was airing we were all starting to get burnt out on the Pokemon anime and we all wished it would be more like Digimon. The cards and games were still popular but Ash losing the league made him a loser, and no one liked that Brock was gone. Pokemon has a lot of duds in the post-Electric Soldier episodes too due to that long gap between Koga and Blaine that a lot of us just tuned out of. Meanwhile Digimon had the kids at each others throats, death and violence, an actual plot that pushed itself forward each episode and we we all came in Monday really excited to talk about what was going on. Wizardmon's dying and Angewomon's debut was the talk of the playground that Monday.

None of the other shows really co-existed. They were either different enough to not be compared, or came after other fads died. Like by the time Yu-Gi-Oh started Pokemon was at its lowest point.

Toy companies in the US often don't want to feed competition since Bandai handles so many of those Japanese lines. Bringing them over usually means Bandai is getting money. Disk Wars is a good example. It was dubbed by the official Marvel VAs but it wasn't released stateside because Hasbro has the Marvel toy rights and they didn't want to import a Bandai toyline.

Tomy lines are often brought over by Hasbro though since the two companies are really close.

this was nerfed in the anime when Robo-Emperor beat down both rokuska and metabee and literally erased Hikaru's medabot in the manga

>Chapter 2 was released on the monthly magazine Dengeki Maoh, the 2016 May Issue.
the Monster Musume creator wrote it and then was asked to delete it by a medarot representative https://mangadex.org/title/e0832364-be9a-49c3-963b-0b14961d834a/medarot-girl-s-mission

What's the most modern (and fully translated) Medarot game I can play?

2 Core
Search for the medal quest if you're interested in romancing Karin or Erika, shit's cryptic.

I dunno about the later games but the first 2 Medarot games have romance routes in them, the GBA RPG game is a remake of Medarot 2 so it has the same story and routes in it, Arika, Karin, or a romanceless ending. As far as I'm aware, Medarot 3 and 4, the direct sequels to 2 in terms of story, doesn't hint toward any romance between Ikki and anyone, so it seems like the romanceless ending is the "canon" one.
So basically the anime is pretty much following the games.
>>
>>270778402
Shouldn't it still be findable in initial copies of that issue?

The Italian dub of the first anime is the only western dub (english aside) to be based off the Japanese version as it was made prior to Canada acquiring the dubbing rights, that is why the title remains Medarot and no localized names
>>
Medarot is a fucking horrible name and Medabots sounds way better

It's how japanese abbreviate things, anon, first syllabes of the first word, first syllabes of the second, with slight variations to make them more atractive
>the Pocket Monsters aren't Pokéters, they are Pokémon
>the Digital Monsters aren't Digiters, they are Digimon
>the Family Computer isn't the Famiter, it's the Famicom
>the FamilyMart chicken isn't the famiken, it's the famichiki
They don't simply delete everything but the beginning of the first word and the end of the last one
>>
>>270789332
I wanna stuff famichiki in Erika's butthole and eat it directly from the source

polemon was king at elementary.
got made fun of for liking digimon and buying the cards.
people said medabots looked bad.
yugioh was middle school "wow im so much more mature then poke kids" and start of pokemon being lame and digi as even lamer.
HS was shit like bebop fma gundam outlaw star elfen lied betterman you know REAL shows for SOFISTICATED 14 year olds.
everyone loved beyblade because it was fun, even some normalfag kids.
tbf anyone who liked anime was viciously bullied.

How?

I think the best way to describe it in my school was that everyone watched Pokemon and later DBZ but only the nerd kids (or kids who would grow up to be the nerd kids) watched the other stuff like Digimon, Monster Rancher, YGO!, Beyblade and Zoids. Not that many kids watched dubbed anime and this was the mid-late 90s/early 00s so no one was watching subbed anime. Even the Pokemon phase was quite short lived, it was DBZ that was the real big thing during my time in school in that it could unite any dude of roughly any age with a common interest. I remember I used to regularly talk to a cool kid a few years older than me about DBZ because he was a big fan and if it weren't for that we'd have nothing in common.

That said Beyblade was a reasonably big fad for a year in school and the year after YGO! was an even bigger fad for a year, in final year of school it all sort of died out, I remember just as I was leaving secondary school seeing the youngest kids playing B-Daman or whatever it was called but I wasn't interested and no one in my year was either. After moving school that's when fansubbed anime downloading started and the yearly fads ended.

japanese cant even find it, physical copies only briefly existed. I think it may be because this >>270772419 game had a big emphasis on tearing girls clothes off and the manga probably did a lot more and they wanted to hide it http://gematsu.com/2016/02/medabots-girls-mission-clothes-tearing-hyper-finish-attack

Medabots is probably the first anime I ever have a recolletion of from my toddler years (27 y/o now), I remember owning the golden and silver robots small toys and some bits of the anime, even before digimon or pokemon. It's odd how being something like 3 years old was enough to recognize and burn into the memory a show that I still think is pretty cool to this day and has this niche following of likewise people.
