Mostly because of the issue you suggested; it verges away from its origins into thoroughly-trod "what does it mean to be alive" robot sci fi stuff.I still highly recommend checking it out. It's very sweet and funny, and the art is spectacular in its use of composition to subtly convey themes and emotions. And even at its "worst," it's still enjoyable.
