>>272614035>the dragons can only approach if a living person falls in guise>Spits immediately goes full Gollum when he sees itLike the other anon said, I wonder what happens next
Spits is going to do something really stupid, isn't he
>>272613784Darren already making up slurs for them
>>272616194On a plus side, its nice to see its not Darren being the fuck up for once.
>>272617062Obviously it is Crepsley's fault for dying.
>>272617808He fucks up even after death
>>272614044Thank you for posting.
Despite it all, this is better than volumes 7,8 and 9 combined.
>>272621788Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, nyo.
>>272622212Yup yup yup yup.
I also disagree, I think this is one of the weakest books. Weirdly, the end goal and overall idea of the lake of souls are solid, is the rest of the setting that is just too retarded
>>272622933I agree, much as I like the ultimate implications the majority of this book is just a series of combat fetchquests for the ultimate goal of a point-and-click game solution to the final problem. There's not really any depth beyond the very strong opening chapter with Darren's grief, barely any real breadcrumbs to discovering the identity early for the readers it being "obvious" doesn't mean it shouldn't be seeded better, and it doesn't meaningfully advance the narrative until posthumously becoming relevant. Tiny just taking them on a field trip is obviously just a metaphor for everything but it's still insufficient of a hook.
>>272622933>>272624094I'm thirding this. This feels like the trials but without that much sense of danger, without the great supporting cast and without the cool setting of vampire mountain. I'm sure the ending of this volume will be great, but the journey there is all over the place while reading. I do like that Darren and Harkat had to macgyver the bombs from the items they collected so far but the actual encounters are STILL over the place.
>>272624241>>272624094>>272622933I argue it's one of the strongest books for building mystery instead of a linear series of events, and it allows Darren to be shown as capable and thoughtful after the fiasco of Steve taking it away from him. Also, one subtle detail I like is that Harkat's text is no longer in the same font as it was the majority of his screentime. Darren couldn't save Larten, but he will risk his life to save Harkat. I love it.
>>272614044Thank you OP!
>>272625328Darren isn't being very capable or thoughtful though, he is just following what Tiny told him and the few breakthroughs that happen in the quest are caused by other characters, not Darren himself. The mystery is also poorly written and the overall quest feels just like padding
>>272625914>the overall quest feels just like paddingThat felt like all of volume 8 to me, and half the beginning of volume 9. With volume 10, things add up slowly rather than a sudden shift in scenery to raise stakes.
>>272613973Darren...
>>272625939I mean, there are no stakes raised here sure, but this is like a picture perfect example of "sudden shift in scenery". I would also note that there isn't that much character interaction so far. What we have is good but it's not much.
>>272622933For me it's the overall pacing. I think I'd be more onboard with this adventure if it happened between volumes 6 and 7. At that point there'd been a timeskip but the plot was still stalled because none of the vampires had found a lead on the vampaneze, until Tiny showed up to give the prophecy. I don't know how smoothly 10 could be moved forwards, namely because I don't know how we're going to pivot back to the rest of the story, but so far it feels like it could have happened at any point and it happening now comes off as an intrusion or distraction from the rest of the story.
>>272613973>>272613992>>272614012>fighting a (firebreathing!) dragon>with improvised explosives This Darren I missed. Honestly, I get what you mean Yzmila. This setting is fucking weird and I don't think the previous volumes are outright bad - beeing such a peak shonen protag Darren should be allowed his moody down phase, but hell did I miss this based retard. What a King.
>>272628367I just like how much Darren is back in control rather than just coast about like he did the previous volumes. He has his agency and planning, and we see him still falter in execution mind you. I just felt like the Vampire War trilogy just had the whole Cell Saga problem.
>>272628452A bit yeah - honestly it is an understandle slip of the writers hand. It isn't easy to write around such a proactive character. But this is an absolute win or bust tactic - just as charging the wolfman with a pipe, entering Murlough Sewers, diving through the flames and falling in the stream with Kurda was. A great return to form.
>>272628002>none of the vampires had found a lead on the vampaneze, until Tiny showed up to give the prophecyI like to think that Tiny was tired of waiting so he just went ahead and told them that to escalate the war.
>>272628710The Mr. Tiny out of NOWHERE shit does get old.
>>272628710It's hard to be a puppetmaster when your puppets are retarded cave dwellers.
>>272628002This. We just had a big conflict and found out a bunch of important stuff. Steve said he had something planned for Darren and co but that gets put on the backburner so we can find out who Harkat was. I don't see why that is important right now. I like the little guy and i'm very curious who he was but i don't feel like this was the best place for it.
>>272630394I think it would've better done if they were accidentally dragged into it rather than "dude le Tiny man arrived because vampires are retards". I dunno, make it so they stumbled into the portal instead or something.
Bumperino
>>272621788I actually like book 10 but 7/8/9 introduced Steve back into the story, so hell no.
>>272630394
>>272636473A Prince must also consider the good of the clan.
>>272636597Harkat is apart of the vampire clan, it's true.
>>272630394>"I never cared about justice, and I don't recall calling myself a hero. I have always only fought for the people I believe in. I won't hesitate... If an enemy appears in front of me, I will destroy it!"
Those are the only two good quotes about friends I can think of.
>>272636473Based Unleashed enjoyer.>>272636784Based Zero enjoyer. I might have worded it badly. I meant why NOW it's important. I really liked the way Darren said "fuck it all, If there is an opportunity i will help my friend". What i don't like is where this is placed storywise. The only reason we find out about Harkat's past NOW is because Mr Tiny said so.
>>272637406We don't leave unresolved plot points here. The unfortunate part is that Harkat and by extension the world of Lake of Souls is that it is just setting up the ending of the series. The beauty of this volume doesn't show until volume 12.
Damn I didn't think I already caught up to the storyI remember reading the threads a month back I think and even 10 or so years ago the manga for some reason for the sites I was able to find the manga on only went up to 77 so being able to read past that has been fun but now gotta wait for later chapters
>>272638009Yeah it is simply a setup volume like 1, 4 and 7. Their enjoyment increases when the things it sets up come back in later volumes but on their own they feel wearker.
>>272638425And now everyone can read it for free.
If Harkat has an important backstory, what about the other little people? What about the guy who got stomped by the bear???
>>272639522Some guy.
>>272639568Is "Some guy" going to be an integral part of the final battle?
>>272639753No.
Fun fact, the lake of souls was what was being advertised at the bookstore when I was in my dragon phase as a kid, and I was a little disappointed it was book 10 so I decided to start from book 1, and promptly started my edgy phase
>>272639999t.
>>272639999Nice digits. For me it was The Dragonslayer of the gotrek and felix series.
>>272639219I downloaded all the volumes and after rereading a lot I think I'll buy the all the omnibus volumes. I both hate and love this storytime. The last time I was so into this series was over 15 years ago and now I'm invested in it again and it's painful. I wish it got an anime or some other good adaptation so more people would know about it because even at its peak popularity it wasn't that well known outside of like, Ireland and Japan I guess.
>>272637406>I really liked the way Darren said "fuck it all, If there is an opportunity i will help my friend"Given the sheer investment, this is kind of the best point of the volume: the lengths and trials Darren will undergo for his friends.
>>272641622Yeah, it's heartwarming how far Darren and Harkat's relationship has come.
>>272639522The other little people are probably just people who were victims of Des' random whims.
>>272642989Sad.
>>272642989>the feeling that the second little person that got crushed by a bear was actually the vampire who convinced Tiny to create Evanna>he dies like a bitch
>>272642013Hah! Fags
>>272642989It was Gavner.
>>272639999based and checked
>>272641572Really? >>272639999Is me, and everyone I know who's had an edgy phase has read cirque du freak and demonata. The former because vampires were the craze, and even though twilight was more popular, boys wanted in on the action without the glitter.
>>272648618Next chapter awaits.
>>272649525See you there.
>>272652010Don't you start this shit.
>>272652010Two chapters are always exciting...
>>272613760
>>272652033I miss you.
