A story of an immortal who, like you said, is forced to involve himself with people yet due to his nature would always end up alone again was the reason i was initially so fond of the manga. The first story with the boy in the snow, then march and gugu's arcs were peak. The arcs were just stories of human nature presented from the perspective of an immortal, some supernatural elements but otherwise it felt like fushi against the nature of existence, time ever moving, cruelty of people and their kindness as well. However as soon as knockers were introduced it just turned into a typical shounen of powerscaling and fighting the big bad. Ruined the initial somber atmosphere the start of the series had. Although of course it wasn't terrible, it went from something i loved to something i just enjoyed and of course eventually became a series i don't even follow anymore.
