I get what they're saying. It wasn't important to the overall story and theme. It does leave Ochako's personal story feeling unresolved, though. I wouldn't mind the ending if Ochako's whole story plot about her love was at least addressed even as a throwaway line about not getting together. Better than leaving it open for interpretation if she ever said anything to Deku or not. I wouldn't be upset if we got a bonus chapter about Ochako choosing to give up on her feelings to pursue her career. It would at least conclude that open end. I won't hold out hope though.
