I think there's peaks and valleys across the series, and even some of the later volumes have some good chapters. Nor will I say that I regret reading it, because to this day, I still think the first four volumes are excellent and the next four are still good to decent. But what I do regret it getting taken in by the sunken cost fallacy that led me to hold on to see the ending. The series started to fall off in the 2nd half, and before the anime aired, many people dropped the series. The threads here were becoming ghost towns back then. I stubbornly stuck with it, and it wasn't worth it.I don't regret watching the two seasons of the anime. They've been excellent adaptations and I've been impressed with the work the cast and crew have done. But with apologies to them, I don't like most of the chapters that will make up season 3. And I have no foolish need to see the ending anymore to power me through. So unfortunately, I don't think I'll be watching the rest of the anime.

In a way, I kinda suspected that something like this was gonna happen when it became apparent that their dad was just never gonna be redeemed. He's a monster to his core, and when that became clear, I wondered if things were ever gonna work out. In a story like this, you either need to redeem the villain or have a third party take him out in order to save Aqua, but no such hero surfaced, so I questioned where things were going. If Aqua was the one to kill his dad, then there would be no happy ending for him. I didn't think he'd die too though.
