>Naoto: "I really did love you, Hayase-san.">Hayase: "I know..">Hayase, feeling antsy, thinks to herself that her vow to Sana be damned, she wants to give Naoto a memory of her that he'll never forget. No matter what happens to both of them. >Hayase: "Naoto-kun...my darling. If it's okay..can I-">The door opens, interrupting Hayase>It's Machida>Machida can't see Hayase, so it seems like Naoto was talking to himself.>But she can definitely feel someone else in the room. Something not human. This makes her leave with Naoto in a hurry.>As Hayase watches her beloved Naoto and his lover leave from the school gate, she senses that Naoto has taken one of her sketches into his pocket.>She can feel his heartbeat>Feeling her moment with him was interrupted, she couldn't give him a proper farewell.>She gets an overwhelming urge to follow him, but knows she can't leave the school grounds.>Decides to take a step out of the gate anyway>Successfully does so>Now knowing that she's no longer bound to the school>She knows that she can now be with him where ever he is, at least one more time before passing on>Hayase: "One more time, my darling. >Back in Tokyo>Sana is enjoying tea while gazing at the full moon in the balcony hallway of their apartment (she's Machida and Naoto's neighbor) >Sana reminisces about some things from her hometown after Naoto told her that he and Machida are going back to Hayama for the weekend>Thinking back to her conversation with Hana and her grand uncle last year about Hayase moving on from Naoto after their measures against her>Remembers Grand Uncle's concern about the possibility of Hayase no longer being attached to the school but rather to Naoto now, hence the importance of disposing of his art works of the spirit to sever all connections they have>Remembers Hana commenting that it was a bad idea for Naoto to take Machida to the culture festival while recounting the possible more aggressive paranormal activities done by Hayase in the third floor building>Remembers picking up an increasingly nervous Hana in the months leading to Naoto's graduation who tells her more and more disturbing stories from school as she got rid of Naoto's artworks of Hayase>Sana: "We got rid of most of it. I hope nothing happens to them...">At that moment she sees Naoto and Machida coming back from Hayama>Sana: "Oi! Good evening, you two! How's your trip?">Machida coldly ignores her and Naoto just saying "hey">Sana notices that Machida has black circles on her eyes and her skin is pale, remembering how Naoto looked like when he was hospitalized>Sana: *in her mind* "It can't be!"
>Sana starts to feel nervous as to what happened to them>Finishes her tea and hurries back in her apartment unit>Opening a chest she has in her bedroom reveals her spirit fighting arsenal>Takes out some talismanic papers >Before closing the chest, she sees her family's treasured tachi that she carries along nowadays just in case something happens to her or Naoto >Beside it is a something that seemed to be folded clothes wrapped in yellow paper tied with a red cord>Sana: "I never used this before, even uncle doubts this will work. I guess this might be the best time to find out!" >Sana then goes out of her apartment to post talismanic papers on Naoto and Machida's door just in case Hayase follows them>Sana then goes back to her unit to prepare for a possible fight with Hayase again.>A few minutes before midnight her bell charm started ringing wildly, her lights suddenly lit up to maximum before dimming back, and then she hears a blood curdling scream>Hayase is here>Grabbing her spirit fighting gear, Sana goes to Naoto and Machida's apart to see all the talismanic papers she put up have turned black
>A few hours ago in Naoto and Machida's apartment unit>Naoto: "Machida, please calm down." >Machida is rushing to get in, but stumbles down once she got passed the front door>Machida wonders why she suddenly feels so tired and even her vision went blurry for a second>Naoto: "Macchi! Are you okay?!" *picking Machida up from the floor*>Remembering the things she has seen, felt, and the mysterious girl watching them as they left Kazehaya, Machida suddenly pushes him away then shakes in fear>Naoto stands surprised as Machida looks at him with fear, shaking like a leaf. >He understands why, but even he can't really believe what he saw in Kazehaya>Naoto goes to hug Machida to comfort her>Machida hesitates but accepts it >Remembers how he was a loner before meeting her, Hayase's trophies from the 50's, his night terrors, and the possibility of all of this wasn't his fault to begin with>Machida: "Oh Hacchi...." >She hugs him back, thinking how much her boyfriend has suffered >Naoto notices how pale her skin is and how much she is shaking right now>Isn't sure if it's because of Hayase >He still can't believe that Hayase is actually a ghost>Naoto: "Macchi, you're tired. Please, you need to eat something. I'll go make something quick.">Machida can only nod in response>In a rush, Naoto can only prepare instant rice porridge from their stock of instant foods in their pantry>Machida eats double portions despite once saying that she always hated how bland the instant meals are compared to homecooked ones he makes>Naoto can't believe how ravenous Machida is right now>Almost as hungry as he was during the times when he can still meet Hayase regularly, he thought>Naoto starts feeling nervous for her and realizing how bad the situation he was in back then
>Machida: "I'm sorry, Hacchi but can you make me some more?" *handing over her bowl*>Naoto: "Sure, I'll go ahead and take a bath first after making you this one.">Machida: "I'm sorry to trouble you...">Naoto: "It's nothing. You're just tired, Macchi.">Naoto finishes bathing and waits in their room>Machida is taking a bath, soaking in the tub thinking of the events of that day>Remembers the girl watching them as they left the school>Machida: *in her mind* "Who is she, Hacchi? Was that Hayase? What happened to you, babe?">*flashback* Naoto: *mumbling in his sleep* "Hayase...I'm so sorry..." >Remembers all her doubts and disappointment for her beloved Naoto thinking he was just some otaku who took his lonely fantasies too far or even a schizophrenic>Starts feeling bad that she'd think that way when her boyfriend was actually been haunted by an evil spirit who bewtiched him into thinking she's his girlfriend for so long and hurt him so much that he was such a mess the year before.>Machida has a horrifying imagination of a ghost who look like Sadako appearing in his nightmares making him suffer for months now>Machida: *gritting her teeth and clenching her fist* *in her mind* "My sweet Hacchi! How could I misjudge you like that!"
>Getting off the tub and drying herself off, Machida feels more refreshed than when they got home>While brushing her teeth, Machida thinks of ways on how to cleanse Naoto of his problem>Machida: *in her mind* "Should I take him to a shrine or a Buddhist temple? A church maybe? I just need to deal with this. I don't care how long it would take! I want my Hacchi to be happy again!">Machida: *spitting into the sink* "Don't worry, Hacchi. I'll take care of you..">As Machida washes her face, she smells a fragrance in the air. The smell of flowers.>Machida: *in her mind* "That's not my perfume is it?">She has a frightening thought that the smell seems familiar. It's the same scent of the room back in Kazehaya. >She decides to ignore it>As Machida rises up to look into the mirror>Machida: *noticing how pale her skin is and the black circles in her eyes* "I look awful...I should get some rest.">At that moment she sees Hayase in the mirror behind her>Machida turns around to confront Hayase to see the spirit an inch away from her face>Terror grips Machida's body, as the sight of the ghost who haunted her Hacchi paralyzes her with fear>So scared was Machida that she couldn't even scream>Hayase touches Machida's face which shocks her feeling the cold touch of her hand>Hayase: *distorted voice* "Don't worry, Machida-san. I just need to see my darling Naoto-kun.">Machida looks into Hayase's eyes. Her glowing red eyes that seem to pull her in.>Machida eyes roll back and she passes out
>Meanwhile in their bedroom>Naoto is lying down on the bed looking at the sketch of Hayase, lost in his thoughts reminiscing about the day when he made this sketch>Flashbacks of that day>*flashback* Hayase: "Fufufu! I guess you can't wait to get your reward, senpai (heart).">*flashback* Naoto: *flustered* "P-pl-please stop that, Hayase-san! I need to concentrate!">Naoto giggles>*flashback* Naoto: "I SAID I WANT YOU TO LEAVE ME ALONE, YOU HORRIBLE BITCH!">*flashback* *Hayase slaps his face, kicks his shin, then grabs his uniform collar and sleeve* "YOU DON'T TALK TO ME THAT WAY!!">Remembers how Hayase fells on her knees crying, wailing loudly in agony of his hurtful words>*flashback* Hayase: *sobbing* "I'm sorry, Naoto-kun! I'm so sorry! Please don't be mean to me! *hic* Please don't push me away! Please don't despise me! *hic* I promise I will never hurt you again!">*flashback* Hayase: "Because I like you!">Naoto: *touching and looking longingly at the sketch* "I'm so sorry, Hayase-san..." >Remembers the first kiss they shared that night>Flashbacks of the times he spent with her watching the sunset and their conversations up on the rooftop of Kazehaya>Naoto smiles recalling those sweet things>Remembers more things such as her angry face when he was being pathetic about his bet with Machida>How she showed up in the art club wearing nothing but a towel>Her nude body and how beautiful she was that day>Her tearful and passionate kiss with him that day, and how angelic her face was>*flashback* Naoto: "I love you, Hayase-san..."

He's not even sure if the things he saw at school was real>"What else is real?">"Was I just been bewitched by Hayase the whole time because she's an evil spirit?">"No, I loved her!">"How could all those things we went through feel so real if she's already dead?">Remembers the time when he was hospitalized and his nightmares>"Was that what she meant by hurting me?">Naoto recalls that even Hayase mentioned that she's acquainted with Sana by the time she modelled nude>Even recalls how Sana mentioned Hayase in the note she left for him on the last bento she made for him>Randomly recalls an scene he saw where Sana was standing over Hayase was laying down on the floor pointing a sword at her face>"Was that really just a dream? Sunomiya-san, you must know something!">Naoto decides to talk to Sana after class the next day for answers on the truth about Hayase-san.>At that moment Machida comes in the room>Naoto: "Macchi, how are you feeling now?">Hayase: "Naoto-kun..."
>Naoto's heart stopped when he heard Hayase's voice, but all he sees is his girlfriend Machida standing by the doorway>Naoto: "Macchi?">Machida takes a few steps towards the bed and as she reaches the area where the light of the moon from the window comes in and illuminates the room, he couldn't believe his eyes>The light of the moon reveals Hayase in her usual school uniform, looking at Naoto ever so sweetly>Naoto: "Hayase-san!">Hayase climbs onto the bed with Naoto>Naoto is speechless, he can't understand what's happening>Hayase starts tearing up>To touch the face of her beloved Naoto again and to feel alive again>Hayase: *touching Naoto's face* "My darling, Oh how I longed to be with you again (heart).">Naoto: "H-how?">Hayase looks at the sketch of her that he's holding to point it and he realizes how she followed them home>Hayase looks back at him with longing eyes full of joy>Naoto although happy to see Hayase again, starts worrying for Machida>Naoto: "Where's Machida, Hayase-san?">Hayase: "Please don't talk about her for now..">Naoto: "Where is she?!">Hayase: "She's right here with us.">Hayase points to a mirror near their bed and as Naoto gazes on to it, he sees something horrifying>It's Machida who's actually that's on top of him, looking rather lifeless with her eyes rolled back to her head like a meat puppet>This horrifies Naoto>Naoto: "Hayase!">Hayase: "Ssshhh, my darling. Calm down. I won't be here for long.">Naoto: "Please, Hayase-san. You're hurting her!" >Hayase: "JUST LISTEN TO ME!">Naoto goes silent but is still worried for Machida
>Hayase: "I'm sorry to do this, but I just wanted to say....do something with you." >Naoto lies down and listens to Hayase>Hayase: *tearing up* "I'm sorry for haunting you, my darling. I'm really sorry for haunting your dreams.">Naoto: "It's okay, Hayase-san. I forgive you. It's nothing." >Hayase: "No! I did that out of selfishness, my darling! I just wanted you to never forget about me...">Naoto: "You really did loved me, Hayase-san?">Hayase: "I still love you now..." >Hayase goes in to kiss Naoto, but he refuses>Hayase: "Darling?">Naoto: "Hayase-san, I also loved you. You don't know how happy I am right now to see you, but I don't want to hurt her." *looking to the mirror referring to Machida*>Hayase is a bit upset that he's still worried about Machida when she's here with him right now, but keeps at Naoto still.>Hayase: "Naoto-kun. She interrupted us earlier. It's not that I hate her or anything. I really just wanted to give you a proper farewell. I..I just want to give you a memory of me that you'll never forget.">Naoto: "Hayase-san...">Hayase takes his hand and puts it inside her blouse to touch her breast>Naoto can no longer think straight as the feeling of what he thinks is Hayase's breast fills his hand with warmth and softness>Softly trembling like water>Hayase: "Can you feel it? That's my heart beating just for you." >Naoto can feel her heart beating faster and harder >Naoto: *caressing her face* "Hayase-san...">Hayase: "Take me, my darling. Let me be yours just for tonight.">Hayase goes in for another kiss
>Naoto suddenly remembers the times he spent with Machida>*flashback* Machida: *a tearful naked Machida on top of him in their first night together* "Thank you, Hacchi! Thank you!">Flashback of the times they spent together at Kainan competing with each other>Their first kiss on the pier>The times they spent together in campus and in the apartment>*flashback* Machida: *in bed facing him* "I love you, Hacchi (heart).">Naoto starts feeling bad at what he's doing right now as Hayase is kissing him>Naoto takes Hayase off of him and sits up>Hayase: "Naoto-kun?" >Naoto: *hugging Hayase* "I can't do this, Hayase-san. I really can't. I'm sorry..">Hayase grits her teeth in rage>She then pushes off Naoto >Hayase: "HOW COULD YOU?!" >Naoto: "Hayase-san, please!" >Hayase: "WHAT DOES SHE HAVE THAT I DON'T?! HAVE YOU COME TO DISLIKE ME?!">Naoto: "NO!">Hayase: *tears flowing from her eyes* "THEN WHAT?!">Naoto: "I don't want to betray her...I love her.." >Hayase: *distorted voice* "YOU! YOU SAID YOU LOVE ME!"
>Naoto: "I DID! I DID LOVED YOU, HAYASE-SAN!" >Hayase lets out a blood curdling scream that made the light in the room to suddenly turn on and light up intensely before exploding>All the mirrors in the room either cracked or exploded. Even the window was cracked.>Hayase floats into the air and the objects start floating with her into a whirlwind of horror>Hayase: *distorted voice* *crying tears of blood* "HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO DISMEMBER ME, MY DARLING?! YOU'RE TEARING MY HEART APART!!!">Naoto is speechless, NOW his nightmare is coming true in front of her eyes>Hayase: *distorted voice* "I JUST WANTED YOU TO NOT FORGET ABOUT ME! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! BUT, WHY WOULD YOU PUSH ME AWAY?!" >As Naoto heard that, he's overwhelmed with the feeling of guilt >As horrific as what he's seeing, he can't help but remember how she bitterly cried one time when he made the portrait sketch of her that he took home>He really can't stand his beloved crying >Naoto overcomes his fear and grabs the floating Hayase and hugs her>Naoto: "I'm sorry, Hayase-san!">Hayase: *distorted voice* "LET GO OF ME!">Naoto: "NO! I should be the one apologizing! I deserve this! I keep hurting you!">Hayase: *distorted voice* "N-NO YOU DIDN'T!">Naoto: "Yes! How many times have I made you cry?! I'm an awful person, Hayase-san!" >Hayase: *turning back to normal voice* "Y-you're not!" >Naoto: "Hayase-san, you don't know how happy I am to hold you again! But please! Don't hurt Machida!">Naoto: *crying his eyes out* "Please! I don't want to hurt both the women who I love! She'll die, Hayase-san! If she dies, you're going to hell for murdering someone innocent! I don't want the both of you to suffer!">Hayase can't help but look at the mirror to see Machida floating in the air twitching, as if she's slowly dying while hanging by her neck>Hayase can see Machida suffering
>Naoto: *crying* "How could I ever forget you?! You're the first girl who I ever loved! You're the one who inspired me to become a better artist and a better man! I'll never forget how I loved you! But I love Machida now! I don't want to hurt any of you! Please let her go!">Hayase decides to let go of Machida>Machida falls into Naoto's arms>Naoto: "Machida? Machida, please stay with me!" >Hayase sees what she's done >Naoto is frantically trying to check Machida for pulse, any heart beat, and shaking her to wake up>Seeing Naoto worry has broken her rage and made her realize her selfishness has not only hurt him, but also a person close to him>Hayase cries uncontrollaby, feeling guilty for her selfish actions>Hayase: "Naoto-kun, I'm so sorry!">Machida suddenly gains consciousness and is gasping for air>Machida: *weak* "H-Hacchi?">Naoto just hugs Machida tightly>Machida: *weak* "H-Hacchi! I-I can't breathe.">Naoto: "Thank heavens you're still alive, Machida!">Machida sees Hayase floating in the air and is filled with fear again>Machida tries to scream but suddenly passes out again>Naoto looks to Hayase to see her hand outstretched towards Machida>Hayase: "I-I just put her to sleep. Don't worry. When she wakes up...she'll just think all that happened tonight is just a dream..">At that moment the door slams open>With a red cord, Hayase is suddenly lassoed off of the air and into the floor
>It's Sana wearing a cloth mask, and hoodie and sweat pants combo that's covered in embroidered holy sutras>She made these special clothes based on her experience in her last fight with Hayase where it took hours to complete writing sutras onto her skin. She figured making a ready-made "armor" will be faster though perhaps less effective.>Not having the help from Hana or enough gear to properly trap Hayase in a sealed room this time, she uses a blessed cord to immobilized her by hog-tying her.>Sana, wearing tactical gloves with embroidered sutras and peachwood knuckle dusters with prayers carved on it, then starts striking Hayase's body hard and fast with the speed of a martial arts master while leaving talismanic papers all over her body. This makes the spirit cry out in pain.>Naoto: "SUNOMIYA-SAN! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!">Sana: "Stand back, Hachiouji-kun!">Sana then quickly and skillfully throws talismanic papers all over the room as if they're shurikens. The floor, the ceiling, the walls, the doors, all of it are covered in blessed papers.>This is to trap Hayase again in a room and in physical form>Sana: "I warned you before, spirit! You gave me your word that you'll never hurt him again and yet hear you are!">Hayase: "NO! IT'S-">Sana shuts Hayase up by tying cord into her mouth, then smacking it shut with a talismanic paper.>Sana: "NO MORE EXCUSES, YOU EVIL SPIRIT!" *throwing a handful of blessed salt and glutinous rice on her*>This burns her face and body which shocks Naoto in his Senpai's ferocity in how she's handling Hayase right now>Naoto: "STOP! YOU'RE HURTING HER!" >Sana: "I said STAND BACK, Naoto! You've been bewitched by this evil spirit for so long! There will be no more second chances now!">Sana then draws out her family's demon slaying tachi >The blade and its hamon being illuminated by the light of the moon, shimmers like polished silver. Otherworldly beautiful but horrifying for Hayase who can't stop squirming and crying out of fear
>Naoto then realizes that the dream he had with Sana pointing a sword at Hayase's face did in fact happened in real life>Hayase: *muffled screaming* "Naoto-kun! Help!!">As Sana prepares to strike, Naoto suddenly grips the sword's blade and Sana's sword hand>Naoto: "NO! STOP!">Sana: "DON'T YOU DARE STOP ME! I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU!" >Naoto: "I WON'T LET YOU HURT HER!!">Sana seeing his hand bleeding from grabbing her sword, then kicks Naoto off of her>Sana: "I'm sorry, Naoto. I'm doing this for your own good!">Sana stabs down, but Hayase is pulled away by Naoto in the last second>Sana faces them and readies to attack again only for her face to be pushed away into the wall by Naoto's bloody hand>Sana, noticing his blood on her mask, takes it off and glares at him who's in front of Hayase, trying to protect her desperately>Sana: "How could you, Hachiouji-kun? I just wanted to help you. That...that THING has been trying to kill you!">Naoto: "She's not!">Sana: "SHE IS! You've been bewitched! She's trying to use you and feed off of your life force! Your qi! YOU ARE BLIND!!">Naoto looks at Hayase>Naoto: "Th-That may be true-">Sana: "IT IS! I stopped college for awhile just so I can free you of her! But she's just so stubborn!" >Naoto: "But you don't have any right to hurt the girl who I love, Sunomiya-san!">Sana has a flashback of Naoto saying those exact words when she last fought Hayase>His words have pierced her hardened heart again
>Naoto: "Please leave us, Sunomiya-san...">Sana: "If you die-">Naoto: "I DON'T CARE IF I DIE!">Sana is shocked by Naoto's sudden outburst>Naoto: "I know she won't kill me....But if I die...please take care of Machida." >Sana: *shocked but regains composure* "Fine, I'll leave you two for now. YOU! If you hurt him! No tortures in hell will be as bad as what I'm going to do to you!" >Sana then throws a tanto onto the floor cutting up the knot on the red cord, thus allowing Hayase to free herself>As Sana closes the door, she then puts up talismanic papers on it to make sure the room is sealed off to trap Hayase inside, then awaits outside to help Naoto or finish off Hayase if she needs to.
>Hayase frees herself off the cord and the talismanic papers all over her body burn off>She sees Naoto cradling a passed out Machida>Seeing his bloody hand, Hayase is moved by his action of trying to save her life even when faced with danger>She realizes that Naoto really did loved her, and her selfishness not only putting him in mortal danger, but also his lover Machida>Hayase thinks to herself that she really can't be with him...ever. >Seeing how he cradles Machida and remembering his words on how she took care of him, Hayase sees how she really is meant for him>Filled with sorrow, she accepts that Naoto was not only generous enough to go with her selfishness but also is such a good man that he accepted her even if she's a restless spirit>She regrets her harsh actions and behavior, and wants nothing but to atone for them>She now accepts that they can never be together, and only wishes him to be happy>Hayase: "I'm so sorry, Naoto-kun. For everything...">Naoto just looks at her
>Suddenly Hayase glows into a bright light>Hayase is suddenly filled with so much happiness and serenity inside>Naoto: "Hayase-san!">Hayase realizes that she has let go of her earthly attachments and has achieved peace>Naoto rushes over to Hayase and holds both of her hands>Hayase caresses his face>Naoto can on feel the warmth and an overwhelming happiness throughout his body from her touch>Realizes that Hayase has achieved peace and is now passing on >Hayase: "Naoto-kun. I hope you can find in your heart to forgive me. It's okay if you forget about me. I just wish you can live a long and happy life." >Naoto: *hugs Hayase* "NO! I will never forget you, Hayase-san! Never!">Hayase: "I'm so glad to hear that, Naoto-kun. Please take care of yourself and Machida-san.">Hayase suddenly disappears in a big flash of light>Naoto is left alone with Machida in the room>He starts crying uncontrollably
>A few minutes later Sana comes in and comforts a grieving Naoto>Sana and Naoto both lay Machida onto the couch after changing her blood-stained clothes>Sana then treats Naoto's wounded hand>Sana then explains that she saw the light and heard everything, tells him that Hayase is now in a better place>She then fills him in on what actually happened to him for two years. What Hayase is. What she found out about her. How she died during the 50s, their interactions, and how Sana was secretly helping him to make sure he doesn't get hurt or die.>Naoto just silently listens to her>Sana understands his sorrow or losing Hayase and knows he can't accept everything right now>Sana then teaches him how to treat Machida who may have lost a lot of her qi from not only being exposed to Hayase, but also possessed by her for an extended period of time>Explaining that Machida herself might have strong spiritual sensitivity for her to sense Hayase's presence back in Kazehaya and even be possessed by her>She assures them that she'll tell their professors that they'll be taking sick leave for the rest of the week as Machida recovers>After cleaning up their bedroom of debris and Sana's spirit fighting arsenal, Naoto escorts Sana back to her apartment unit>Naoto: "Thank you, Sunomiya-san. Thank you for everything. For how much I've looked in this genre I can't find a more authentic love story than this. But then as it progresses it becomes worse because the authors are forced to go from the past and the endless potential that the future has to making it the present. Its hard to make that present compelling because the imagination of what if by a human is always more vivid and stronger than what is. I think a few stories stay strong and thread this needle well, but I think in those cases you need to have the entire story scoped out, because that larger vision of it can give you insight into it, similar to a painting. If you outline first you can get a sense of what the painting will be, but if you just do it piece meal, you can lose focus of the wider narrative and leads to a lesser result.But that's just the ramblings of a late night Sakura follower back from the gym.

Sweat and soap does a good job to dispel this myth, but someday I will write my own manga that is similar to this story and prove it wrong once and for all (semi-autobiographical based). I think you could naturally put other romances in too like with Gamo and Taigi, which is one of my biggest complaints too is how down the stretch Natashi go lazy, stopped focusing on worldbuilding of others and zeroed in on our love birds. Steak is good but I want more around it otherwise it can be shallow. So i think you naturally use an expanded cast. There are additional hurdles for the couple like meeting the parents too. I wouldve used the end of HS as the final point with a timeskip to post college probably.Thinking back, why couldn't you just return to a similar format of before early in the story for the two with the teasing but in a fun way? It would be a natural progression and I'd argue that the real draw isn't the mystery of if they will get together but really escapism and the actual story elements. We like the journey and if that journey was together, that would be amazing too just sprinkle in the pay offs. And there never shacked up either which could be another big step you keep out there for them near the end of HS to narratively frame the story leading up to.
