So, my theory that the stepdad hates Yami got some partial confirmation, which honestly isn’t surprising, considering she played a role in wrecking his marriage, but more on that later. Right now, it’s clear that Yami’s feelings for Yuu run way deeper than what Hikari feels. And most importantly, Yami actually has an answer to the big “why.” Hikari doesn’t. It’d be way too out of character for Yami to break up with Yuu just because of Hikari. Sure, there’s Yuu and his feelings too, but by ch 16, it all felt way too forced. And let’s not forget how much effort Yami put in for Hikari. It has to be something bigger, something darker, that made her let go of Yuu.Here’s my theory, what if the stepdad raped Yami, maybe in that same room. She feels “dirty” and unworthy, so she steps aside, letting Yuu and Hikari have their “pure” love, and she loves them both. But I hope Maruto has something way more interesting up his sleeve.
