It's not even really a twist, just a more detailed explanation for something we pretty much knew already. That's why when Darren let himself die along with Steve nobody went 'wait, can't Tiny just undo this with time travel?', because it'd already been made clear that he couldn't even if he wanted to.

In turn, this makes the story seem pointless as none of the events we observed actually take place with the characters we grew accustomed to. Darren doesn't become a vampire, Steve doesn't become evil, so why bother? I get it. I felt the same way at first.It took a couple rereads for me to notice is that Darren (and Evanna) trapped Mr. Tiny in a timeloop that cannot be broken. Every Lord of Shadows will kill themselves, and there will never be the desired outcome of misery and suffering that Mr. Tiny craved for. A key component of the story is to make your own destiny as it is not fully realized ever. It was an original occurrence, and it was like fate fixing itself after being defiled and tampered with. Darren then writes about the events (vampires are still illiterate), and is able to inform humanity of the negativity that lurks around them. He changes destiny forever, he changes Mr. Tiny forever. I guess I am rambling, hence the point of me spilling everything out here but I liked the ending a lot. Not only does he set himself free, but he traps the man who hurt him in a making of his own doing.I personally believe, with how much book 10, 11 and 12 work to prove the foresighters wrong, Mr. Tiny, Evanna is wrong about this part as well. It was never natural, and it was never fated.

Also, there's the whole "new Darren will eventually write the novels, exposing Tiny" which people seem to ignore.
