While I do dislike some questionable decisions, out of all recent "remakes" since HxH this might be the most successful one since it's not cheap-looking new animation like Ranma and it doesn't do a speedrun of the manga with bad direction since it has its own story instead(which is still rushed though).
Anyone who defends the original trigun anime as a "good adaptation" is delusional. Its good, but its an adaptation. The manga has some problems with pacing and tone. Thats why it got all shuffled in the anime. A hard prequel/reboot like this was a good idea. I enjoyed it. I appreciated the animation even, I thought it was technically good. Good setup for Trigun Maximum, which is really where the shonen training wheels come off.
It's also sad people are getting filtered by the manga's paneling and art.

Nevermind that Stampede couldn't even be assed to characterize Vash's interactions with regular civilians when even Maximum managed to do consistently do that during the later parts of the story.

Stampede unironically reduced Knives into a generic a yandere that's overly possessive of Vash.
I liked it but I also masturbated to Vash furiously.

The second series (Maximum) only finished way after the anime had already ended. The overall tone of slapstick humor combined with the seriousness in the OG is actually pretty damn close to manga which still managed to have the same brand of comedy even way late into the series.Stampede by comparison is actually far less faithful to the manga despite borrowing so much of its lore from the later parts.
