What anime do straight females even watch? I'm looking at anime released this year and 95% shit is directly aimed at straight males(or lesbians), and a small percent of that has unisex appeal.if any straight femanon is posting here, tell us which anime did you like from this year?
>>273336057They watch Shonen like everyone else

I saw a post on another site complaining that anime aimed directly at women isn't made that often anymore compared to the 90s and 2000s. For some reason the executives turn every shoujo manga into budget TV dramas and movies now.
I liked freiren and dungeon meshi when it comes to anime that aired this year. I read books more than I consume anime/manga.

Why aren't women watching Nina's show? it's literally made for women
>>273336057They like HxH and FMAB and OP and Naruto
>>273336424I think Acro Trip fits into that crossover audience.
>>273336057Shit like Delico's Nursery
>>273336523They're all completed except for OP. So what they do after watching 20 or so classic shonen shit with unisex appeal
>>273336534it's probably closer to borderline aimed at women, but you're right. it belongs on the list.
>>273336057you say that like women aren't used to 95% of media being aimed at guys by default and most of the 5% that does try to pander to women being half assed garbage chixflix
>>273336554This list is pretty accurate:>>273336424Just add Oshi no Ko and the random villainess show of the season.
>>273336379Westerners forget that demand requires people buying things. These people just don't want men doing anything because they're literally indoctrinated to hate men every day with everything. This shit literally is the reason why the Americans lost the Afghanistan war. Oh look, feminism is now directly causing women to suffer. Oh no!Even my more feminist leaning sister changed a little after that (too much and she needs to return to roots again) because she realised you needed economies, not rights, to prevent the harm of women.
>>273336610It didn't used to be that way and even men used to watch shoujo anime (ex KareKano)
>>273336424Freiren is not aimed at actual males
>>273336640it's serialized in a shounen magazine, but it's also the same magazine that serializes Conan, which became a manga for women at least a decade ago.
>>273336057A lot of the stuff you think is aimed at boys is surface only and in reality is coded with fujo shit
>>273336665>it's serialized in a shounen magazineThat doesn't really matter though. Apothecary Diaries is technically seinen but its audience is almost all women whereas something like oshi no go (also seinen) got a split audience.
>>273336610>you say that like women aren't used to 95% of media being aimed at guys by defaultIdk bro fiction books in the west seem to be aimed at them these days. Readership for YA fiction is 80% female.
>>273336057My sisters mostly watch drama, Korean dramas to be particular. They will watch the occasional shounen and one of my sisters loves Gintama so there's that. I think as long as the fan service isn't absolutely blatant or if it's instead played up for jokes women will give it a try.
>>273336699shit man, bungo stray dogs is serialized in a seinen magazine and i doubt its actual male fanbase is more than 10%.

>>273336610Soap operas and live action dramas are pretty much always aimed at women.
I used to work with a lot of females who were into anime. A lot of them loved One Piece, Kimetsu no Yaiba, and shonen in general. Sailor Moon was a nostalgic factor as well, but I don't ever recall them talking about modern Mahou Shoujo stuff like Precure or seasonals and whatnot. I think they also liked Spy X Family, they also played the Oshi No Ko OP over the work speakers so they probably liked that too. Women like a lot of show, even ones you'd assume are made for men.
Only bisexual or outright homosexual women watch anime
>>273336754the real plot of frieren is the tragic romance between frieren and the handsome giga simp pretty boy hero, with frieren slowly realizing that she had feelings for him all along. of course a big chunk of its fanbase is women.
All these posts and only one femanon. It's really a sausage fest in here isn't it
>>273336798In 2024 that is largely redundant to people under 35 because most are bi nowadays. I'm struggling to find straight or purely gay people now. (As it should be as we used to be in antiquity before Judaism.)
>>273336740Like every sports series anymore has fanbases dominated by women. Something like Tokyo Revengers as well is another good example of surface male but in reality female appeal.
>>273336827Probably, but I'm also convinced that any femanon smart enough to browse this place for long periods of times is also smart enough to never admit to being a woman.
>>273336126>>273336091>>273336523Shonen back in the day was like "this is made for boys but looks like girls can enjoy it too. Great!"Shonen these days is like "we deliberately make shit that appeals to both boys and girls, a bit more to girls actually"

I've been rewatching episodes/seasons of older shows lately. >Railgun>Hibike>Bunny Girl Senpai>Madoka>Macross FrontierLast two shows I finished for the first time were Girls Band Cry and A Place Further than the Universe a few weeks ago. Honestly, it's pretty normal stuff. I like Magilumiere this season.
>>273336970>Bunny Girl SenpaiI refuse to believe there are women who enjoy this.
>>273336761In 2009 I didn't know a single teen girl my age that watched "girl orientated" anime. But I knew many that liked Naruto, or a unicorn or two with actual good taste that liked Ghost in the Shell or something like that. Ghost in the Shell was big at that age back then because it was more "western friendly". Most other anime was too fan service filled in a way that was "kinda cringe" because of moe and not enough hardcore service like how Cyb Edgerunners did it. Girls watched Game of Thrones. They like sex and nudity in films. The idea they don't is bullshit. They just don't like the weird kawaii otaku orientated sex scenes. I can totally get why, that was hard for me to get into myself because it was just too damn baby and boring to me. But I still somehow overcame that barrier for a while. But I much much prefer raunchy sex service with noir and grit and blood and shit like that. Westerners are just high octane with this stuff I guess. I know some japs actually dislike the moe stuff too, but it's not as much as in the west. And at the end of the day, otaku make the industry run and that's all that really matters in the end - I just wish they tried to market themselves more broadly to more grit orientated audiences that like spice. Girls, believe it or not, like spice a lot. They don't care that much about kawaii, more sexy and naughty. That being said, I know one anime that sorta floated in between and did it well and that was Gunsmith Cats. I don't understand why they couldn't go down that path to broaden things. Girls love seeing badass bitches beat up badies.Guys love seeing sexy badass bitches beat up badies. But it's more to do with how they do the sex appeal. It's more badass and less kawaii, but not too much to push away otaku.
Mushi shi, in my experience.
Theres one show this season I know two girls that watch but no one else Raise wa Tanin ga Ii
More shows like the Animatrix or Blame!, only with actual quality. Anything fucked up and gothic seems to be ok. Particularly noir shit. I don't know how many teens got into anime because of the Animatrix and Ghost in the Shell, but that's how most people in the 00s saw anime, instead of Love Hina! and Lucky Star.
>>273337117I'm watching it
>>273337117I think my sister might have been watching Ghibli Films and Dungeon Meshi recently. She doesn't see anything from most Shounen shows and is abhorrent towards moe stuff (though she did like Sayounara, Zetsuboa Sensei, despite it's fan-service - mainly it's weirdness and humour).
>>273336761>men watch shojo unironically>women watch shonen unironicallynothing makes sense, what's the even point of these genres
>>273337117My sister would consider that too gimmicky and dumb, though I know girls that would probably be into that.

>>273337243Yeah none of the shit airing is anything like it was in 2009. Now THAT shit was orientated for males, things like battle harems. But honestly, I've stopped watching anime because most of it is the same old shit over and over again. So I looked to manga instead. I'm beginning to see the problem and it's that anime just doesn't try... at all anymore. It's creatively stagnated. The manga industry is somehow avoiding the issues in anime largely and has good innovative ideas. Part of that is small work team, another part is probably lack of liabilities or something to that accord (smaller balance sheet and expectations and a smaller niche market manga can cater too to fund itself). It was nice that Edgerunners really showed me how much free liquid cash on hand helps and how fucked up debt liabilities have made our media though. That really bothers me in this housing bubble because that and GFC/Covid economic shit is precisely the root cause of that shit. Edgerunners was a breath of fresh air. It got fanservice right - as in it didn't hold back at all. And that was jap/western. But then you see Disney try that and it's fucking garbage and clean like all of their western shit. I think the problem might be more too many corps in japan, too much of a monopoly in the west. Too many worries about cash flow and not enough freedom to move to create new content. Too much corporate restraint because of the size of the corporation (too big to recommend high risk ventures, or too small to recommend high risk ventures).
I liked Karasu wa aruji, Kusuriya and that slave elf girl (maou no dorei elf or something). That's it. I'm interested in Chikyuu no undou but hasn't checked it yet.

I'm not gonna ramble about the topic much more here but you're right, after the fiascos in recent years things are slowly changing.
>>273336057My straight female friend likes Rising of the Shield Hero and 86, which is wild to me because outside of anime, she likes romance stories and little else with regards to a plot. And it's not even steamy romance, just by the book romcoms or romances with slight drama. I don't get it.
>>273336379But women are the one keeping the hobby alive. Women are famously the biggest spenders. You can only extract money from men by putting in a slot machine or softcore pornography. You can extract money from women by having two men in your anime.
Why is there no CGDCT/female-relationship focused anime for girls? Half of the authors of CGDCT are women yet the audience is still 90% male.
women like shows with 2 boys in it that have enough subtext where they can theorize if they are gay or not.

I have a theory: literal clinical autism. Freedom of thought and expression makes content good. So I assume that censorship, culture wars and financially fuckery is often getting in the way of people trying to make or find interesting new things. Most of that shit is ran by admins that are, I kid you not, LITERALLY autistic (not internet autistic) who cannot allow things like "spice" autistically. It aggravates them to have something that is not within their lane or expectation. The irony right?Clinical autism, not meme autism, might be the issue here. Corporations involved with these things tend to pick for low risk types. Autistic people, that stay in their lane more obsessively, tend to be good employees to exploit, especially because half the time it doesn't occur to them that they're being exploited because they refuse to think about things like that and are focused on the thing in front of them instead. I only know this because I was informed by a psychiatrist about the real definition of autism. Then again, that could be the reason why anime has stagnated a bit recently too. So autism on both sides. Autism v autism.I've realised that this is probably why I'm always having to agitate people to do something different in this day and age too. People just refuse to try something strange. Then again, this all began as a reaction to too much degeneracy and violence and shit like that to begin with. Things became hell, there was a reaction to hell, then hell wanted vengeance again.I can see how behavioural spirals happen, kek.
>>273337831But there's quite a lot of plot going on in it, which she usually barely pays attention to when it comes to romances. Somehow, 86 is the exception.

>>273337904Yeah, your coworkers are fujoshits anon.
>>273337783>why is there no CGDCT/female-relationship focused anime for girlsBecause a lot of guys would read it, and if there's anything I learned about female anime fans, they absolutely hate when a bunch of guys start reading their series intended for them because they almost inevitably get pushed out of it. Just look at the mahou shoujo genre.
My ex liked Death Note, Code Geass and Mirai Nikki, and I think we saw the first couple episodes of Escaflowne together at her request but we never finished it.
>>273337783Plenty of "moe" that is seen in anime isn't palatable to most women. But not just any moe, I'm specifically talking about "moeblobs", which showcase barely any discernable facial features aside from the eyes. It tends to look cheap, but pretty, and generally has some glossy overlay. Cgdct is rife with that particular aesthetic. There are some standouts from the genre that can invite a large crowd of women, like Eizouken, but those lack the moeblob aesthetic. So to have a female-oriented cgdct, one should start by having a design that can actually attract women.
>>273338165>Plenty of "moe" that is seen in anime isn't palatable to most womenYet Frieren has a moe artstyle and it has a 40% female audience.

>>273336379>complains that the demographic that's probably keeping the medium alive as a whole is the one that people focus onFunny enough if they made more for women they would make more. See books completely being taken over by women because they just spend more than men
>>273338260>in regards to cgdctIn girls can like the moe artstyle outside of CGDCT, it sounds like they have a bigger problem with the tropes/dynamics of the genre rather than how the characters look.
>>273338354>problem with the tropes/dynamicsThat part is true. I should've clarified that the online definition of "moeblob" also encompasses a personality trait that comes with that cutesy aesthetic, which is a turn-off for many women. But I'm not necessarily sure if the personality is a bigger factor, since many women turn away from cgdct from just the promotional poster though. Could go either way.
>>273338030That's not what happened. It was traditional mahou shoujo fading away and the rise of a new kind of mahou shoujo specifically for men. They're basically two different genres.
>>273339178But why did traditional mahou shoujo fade away? It's because girls started losing interest after lots of male otaku really got into works like Sailor Moon and CCS.
I watch anime of all genre even Chinese shit but never Korean i'm stalking other girls to see what they liked this year and most like Frieren, CatCat, and Dungeon Meshi but thats a boring answer Blue Lock dug its own grave with its season but Haikyuu is still popularDisney twinks are getting an anime I heard they sell an ungodly amount of merch>>273337281Make that 4 is it really that unpopular?
>>273339215Or it just faded away over time because that's what can happen to genres, like horror shoujo. Then Pretty Cure cornered he market. Mahou shoujo is kind of like mecha in the way it lost popularity.
>>273339233I've seen a lot of girls liking Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master, but I never hear about it here.
