Oda for as much as I malign the writing of OP, also did a great job fleshing out his setting but the issues revolve around constantly blue-balling the readers on key information but dropping more hints and questions on top. He's very deep in the J.J. Abram's "Mystery box" territory and I don't see him resolving his story satisfactorily. That being said Toriko as a whole benefits from having a much more focused world when it comes to lore, locations, etc. without spoiling, the major things we've seen are things the story will continue to develop like the war-torn nature of the world, the IGO's attempts to keep the population fed, and the myriad locaitons that are dangerous but yield fantastical food. Learning about the Gourment World this early just sets our expectations based on what we'll be seeing in the coming volumes. One Piece as a setting is far more scattered and fragmented. And Oda has to keep prolonging any real explanation for what is going on in the background. I feel this is because once we understand what's really going on the story will have no course but to push for a final arc and as much as people keep predicting OP will end in 5 years. It can keep spinning its wheels so long as we don't understand the void century. OP has the most lore and most intricacies; but Toriko actually ended and didn't jerk the reader around as much as OP does while still creating a fully realized and fantastical world. It's hard to not take into account that OP feels like it's dragging on at this point and I've long since lost my investment in the world. I just want answers to questions that are decades old at this point.

I'm not complaining about not knowing everything because no story should have to spoil it's stuff at first hint. But Shima doesn't jerk the readers around. We have two big ??? now in this story. The gourmet world and now "God". We'll gain far more information about both, much faster, and it will involve many different characters even though in a story like OP where there's a major character whose sole function is being a historian. We know fucking nothing compared to where we were years ago in Wano, and decades ago prior to that in places like Fishman Island or even Skypeia. What we've gained isn't anything really new just different flavors of "ancient war went really bad for Joyboy and his side".

The arc specific plotlines are mostly still enjoyable to the general audience. Personally I don't think Wano and Egghead Island were that great and really could have used some polish. Especially how the Beast Pirates went from someone I really did consider on Whitebeard's level to a bunch of jokes whose leader had to be written around with a reverse boss rush I still don't think weakened him enough to justify Luffy winning. Kaidou got done dirty, if anything he just shouldn't have been defeated but fans wanted another powerup (they got two) and Luffy having to run away from another Yonko wouldn't have justified his false place among their ranks.
