Chapter 1Eri Takatori is high school girl who writes for what passes as her school's newspaper as to sate her boundless curiosity. These are the small stories, mysteries and dramas she tends to get caugh up in in the late afternoon and evening hours after school.I've been wanting to storytime something truth be told I already did this series once. But this is one of my all time favorites and that was years ago so screw it, I'll do it again.
Each chapter is generally split into two short stories based loosely, near as I can tell, around a central theme that connects them. The real exception is this first one which is three and I can't spot a good theme beyond introducing stuff like characters and the overall style.
>>275117872>I already did this series onceAnd I probably already read it then. But why not again.
>>275117872Hey, we already had this one a while ago
>>275117988I'm just waiting on the next volume of the main one I've been doing for a while to go up so I can grab it. But if it does while I'm doing this I'll just do both at the same time. Wouldn't be the first time I've had two dailies running concurrently.I've honestly had a rough time finding anything new I like. I used to have good results trawling Mangadex but it feels like over the last year or so a lot of what gets uploaded now falls into a few broad categories, none of which interest me. So I've just been going back to re-read stuff I've already read.
>>275118084Like I said, I know I did it a few years ago. But if someone else has done it recently then maybe I shouldn't bother? If nothing else I already started on these chapters so I'll finish them.
>>275117872The monkey girl
>>275118214It was probably you, then.
That's it for today. More tomorrow evening.
again? w-what year is it?
>>275118728Thanks, OP!
>>275118848I'm just checking and I did it a little over three years ago. It doesn't really feel like it's been that long though. Also someone fairly recently storytimed something I'd done only a few months earlier. It happens I guess.
>>275118937>a little over three years agodamn...
>>275118728Thanks OP!
>>275117872Nice. I like this manga. It's short and good. The mangaka's romance manga is so cute too.
>>275117872You dumped this back when I didn't save as many pages, so I'm happy to get a chance to get them now!>>275118464Yay!>>275118728thanks, OP. Happy to revisit this cute little one
>>275117872Sounds kind of interesting
>>275118077Okay, she's pretty cute
>>275118728Thanks OP, seems exactly my kind of thing

>>275118439>>275118464Damn, what a tough bitch.
>>275118620Probably could have used a TL Note here.
>>275123025>>275118728spoke too soonThank
>>275123053Yeah, in case it's not obvious he teaches classical Japanese. Which I've always found a little funny as a class because it's not like we teach Shakespearean English or whatever.
>>275124215That used to be how it was in most of the West, reforms made it so that contemporary literature gained popularity over classics in education.
>>275124304No, I mean in Japan they teach the classical Japanese language as a means of also teaching classical Japanese literature. It'd be like teaching high school students Early Modern English to read Shakespeare or Middle English to read Chaucer which isn't actually done. Or at least wasn't when I was in school.
>>275118077Nice lad
>>275118728Thanks OP I enjoyed reading that chapter as it reminded me of Soremachi. But it might've reminded me of Soremachi a little too much
>>275117872Nice cover.
Damn, the interiors are shit.
>>275127068In what way? I think the characters are fine and like the environments a lot. The art also does a good job of getting across that late afternoon/early evening setting which is a little harder to do in black and white.
>>275118077Cute
>>275129171Yes
>>275118077Clearly he's an ayylmao
>>275118728Thank you for posting.
>>275131126Now you're thinking like a journalist.
>>275118848You finally woke up from your coma. It's 2005.
Tasogare Memorandum is one of my favourite manga, and I'm glad to see it getting dumped again. I think I last read it around 5 years ago when I was fresh out of college, so I'm sure I'll reflect on things a little bit differently this time around.
>>275119273I'll check it out.
>>275122981Don't toy with an expectant woman.
I still have to read this, don't die thread!
>>275145003Okay
>>275117872Thanks OP, this seems interesting
Chapter 2
That's it for this time. More tomorrow.
>>275148376It happens a lot, something normal or unimportant for one person can be a precious memory for another one, it sucks when you notice you are in either side
I think that one of the things I love the most about this series is how poignantly she's able to sum up feelings like this. Meeting an old school friend and becoming bitterly aware about the passage of time is pretty emotionally complex, and you get 1.5 pages with Eri's thoughts. Somehow her response still feels extremely genuine even with as little direct attention it gets. I can't remember the mangakas afterword at the end of the series, but I do wonder how much of this is semiautobiographical, since this and some of the later chapters really do feature situations that I feel you'd only get if you've thought about it yourself before.
>>275149816Ah, meant to point at >>275148431 for this, but it really applies to a lot of the series
>>275148376>>275148431Aw...
>>275148038Sounds like Hamano-kun just has autism
>>275148462Damn Thanks OP
>>275149816I definitely think of any single story in the series it's the probably the most effective. In just a few pages you get what seems to be a happy meeting between old friends who haven't see each other in a long time that's then turned on its head and you're left to reflect and speculate on just what's happened with Ogawa which then puts the rest of the preceding conversation in a new light.

>>275148156Cute idea
>>275147956Hey OP! Gonna have to read this tomorrow, my life is an utter shambles right now and I'm finding it harder and harder to not just burn everything to the ground.Follow me for more lifestyle tips /blog
>>275151657It is the self loathing that she expresses that I feel is a pretty unique take on it. Maybe it isn't at all, and the success of this manga is in how the reader can fill in a lot of gaps to make the experiences align with their own in a sort of reversal of wish-fulfillment. >how much of an elevator pitch can you give at your class reunion?Oh, god, mine is soon. Honestly, I wonder if anyone is going to reach out to me about it. I don't have any presence online, and I don't keep in touch with anyone from it. Highschool was a weird time for me >>275152431Well, if it's any consolation, I've never read this manga when I was in a particularly good time in my life now as well, but the reminiscence and melancholia always does me good somehow.>>275150637Overall, it might be. I can't remember most of the specific chapters anymore, but I know for sure that my favourite one is where Eri interviews the graduate under the cherry tree because it aligned so well with my experiences and I happened to read it at the perfect time. Reading through it again, it is a bit of a reversal of this chapter in a couple ways. It is such an innocuous one, but it has, bar none, left more of an impression on me than any other manga chapter. Man, I was starting to forget how much I loved this series.
>>275153006Yeah, one thing I like about this series is that it's able to give these moments that are poignant and heavy without feeling like it's laying it on thick or trying hard. The chapter with the astronomy club president and the idea that nobody really appreciates or cares about anything you put your heart into or love is another one that's always stuck with me.
>>275154211ah, fuck, I forgot about that one. I'm sure this daily will give me a lot of those moments, which fits in with how much this series focuses on reflecting and reminiscing. Honestly, I was already tearing up a little bit so far, so I'm sure the especially heavy chapters will destroy me

>>275117872What genre is it?
>>275186596short slice of life vignettes
>>275179295Sweet girlfriend
>>275179255>>275179220Truly, an adorable couple. As well, the fact that she can lie this readily means that she had already prepared for this situation and decided in advance that she was going to cover for Yamaji if they ever got recognized.>>275184303Personally, I think the issue that Macchi is facing is more of one that she's unable to turn either of them down because she's viewing the food as a gift. Giving gifts comes off to some people as just one sided (I am giving a gift to you) but to others it is also a two sided thing (you are receiving a gift from me). Say you don't want to receive the gift, but the other person wants to give it to you. Someone in that situation has to give, and if you're a person who cares more about pleasing others than pleasing yourself, you're probably not going to say anything and just take the food. I know it is an experience shared between a lot of cultures, but imagine when your grandma says "I made some food for you" and you saying "no thanks, I'm not hungry." For a lot of families, turning down food from a family member is a fight, and it is often easier to just force yourself to eat it, or simply pretend and live with that shame.I suppose, to sum it all up, simply saying "its ok, I have food already" depends on both the person receiving it being able to turn down a gift and the person giving it being able to accept having a gift turned down. That can be a complicated thing to navigate.
>2000 character limitcmon, hiromoot, remove the limit just for me already>>275179007This is one of the lines I'm a bit split on. In my mind, the only reason why she's "not turning an eye" is because she's been doing it for, presumably, around a year. Her reaction to getting caught in the act shows that she very much feels bad about what she's doing, but is doing it because she feels pressure that is harder than the shame she's currently feeling. I think I just don't like how this seems to imply that she's doing it because she is ungrateful when, in my eyes, Macchi is throwing out the food because she feels too grateful to others to turn it down.
