>>275181355Exoticism. Japan thinks Europe is fascinating and cool. If you're going to have foreigner characters, then they need to stand out. Otherwise what's the point? Other Asians aren't different enough. That's why whenever anime has Chinese characters, they're almost never normal Chinese people. They're always so, well, Chinese. Everything from their clothes, mannerisms, food, and how they talk screams Chinese culture. If a character isn't obviously different from the Japanese characters, you might as well just make them Japanese. Also, the Brazilian stats may be misleading. Most of those Brazilian immigrants are actually ethnically Japanese.
