Other than just browsing magazines, how do you guys find series to scanlate? Is there like a Japanese version of something similar to BakaUpdates or MAL, like a database with tags and recommended similar series and shit?
You don't “find series to scanlate” what the fuck. You select one from the enormous amount of titles you know in Japanese that you know aren't translated yet. It's not exactly like there is a scarcity on titles to pick up, less than 1% of things if not less are translated in some way. I read entire magazines which have no currently running title translated, many of which quite good.Furthermore, at least for me, what I pick up is heavily influenced by ease of translation and in the past also typesetting. I made the mistake before of picking up things with a lot of text and text outside of bubbles because it was very interesting and I learned my lesson there. It became really time consuming.
Try checking the stores where you buy your manga.
>>275191331Of course there's many but I honestly don't read that much and like fairly specific things. >>275191344I don't live in Japan so I don't have a lot of ambient exposure to manga.
>>275191991Ebook stores.How new are you?
>>275192231I'm not asking where to get raws? I want a better way to find shit to read other than going through magazines.
>>275192297You are beyond help.
>>275192302If your answer is >just go browse a shelf/store yeah ok that's obviously the brute force method, but I was asking specifically if there was a database that was searchable, with similar series recommendations or the like, because English databases are far from complete, and the various publishers' online readers don't actually have works that have much similarity to each other at all. Yes, I can brute force scroll through stuff but I was asking for something dumb.
>>275192487Which ebook stores did you actually try?
>>275192502Ok, I see what you're getting at. Maybe just say the recommendation pages of ebook stores instead of being cryptic for no reason. This is better than flipping through magazines but it's still not ideal.
>>275192730But you also wanted tags and a general database.Recommendations will depend on your previous interactions so using those where you already purchased is the obvious choice. Why are you being cryptic and pretend you want to translate when it's actually about finding series to read?
Bankruptcy and prison time will come to the trannies running website 'M', but only if you reply to this post with "Ganbare, Kakao-san!" :3
>>275192297So you want things to read, not translate.Yeah well bookstoress typically recommend based on past purchases and there's also comic.pixiv with free samples to check things out.I do believe magazines are the way though, they're just much cheaper per page and a good way to find something new. Also, just tags on mangaupdates I guess. Search for something you like.
>>275192917頑張って!カカオ君!\(´・ω・`)/
>>275192846>>275192924I mean I guess it's about finding series to read, sure. I did the OP as a scanlation thread because I figure scannies have a better idea of whether there are any websites like what I was looking for and the end goal is finding something I like enough to TL since my backlog is smaller than usual. Never really actively looked for stuff before this because I would always find out one of the authors I like is doing something new before finishing previous series so I always had a backlog. Thanks for the help I guess.
>>275193161I remember the days of>My name's Hibiki Ai, because I be Hibikeepin' it realI thought official subs were meant to be better.
>>275192917>website 'M'Are they talking about Mangadex or something else?
>>275192917KA-KEKLet's be real though. Mangadex wants to monetize manga the same way crunchyroll does. The issue is that mangadex relies on the labor of people who prefer piracy. I don't think the website itself is worth more than a couple thousand grand.
>>275193317Shitdex is #1 so probably.
>>275193517No it isn't. It's manganelo/nato/whatever 10 other domains they use.
>>275193357Indeed I suspect they're trying to hold out getting sued until AI can automagically TL and typeset everything and that'll be their pitch to the nip companies. With any luck they won't succeed in doing a Jewcob 2.0 and Kakao will buttfuck them for their tranny-hubris in thinking they could do that and thinking they could ever be women.
>>275193562Nope, next highest ranked mango pirate site is mangago.
>>275193584Why do you think they use a billion domains for the same site? So every retard that can write shit into google can't tell they're the biggest.
>>275193635The popularity falls off quickly after those first couple, even combined don't think they're bigger than MD.
>>275192917Said it last thread also but just want to reiterate, if hosting gookshit will be the cause of md's downfall after anons told them at the start to cut that faggy shit out, it'll be beautifulAnyway, ganbare kakao-san!
>>275193652Wait, you think that shitty site is reliable when it comes to sites that have been intentionally dodging it for at least half a decade now? My stuff had constantly the most view and comments there before fb got completely infested by bots.
>>275193708Do you have any better anal-ytics?
>>275193161Good TL.
>>275193728No I just know that when md was at it's peak right before hombre my latest chapter would get 2-3k views there while it would get 8-15k on nelo and double the comments.
>>275193768Is it a series that spics would love to read? Because I think that's the main demographic of those random clone sites.
>>275193790Donno what spics like. It's cute girl sol so you tell me.
>>275193822Yeah sounds about right, or Indonesians, just look at the general ESL-level of the comments and you can get a good feel most of the time.
...
>>275193848kino
>>275193848>I don't speak the source language>Or the target language>BUT I DID IT ANYWAY :DDDD
>>275191331>You don't “find series to scanlate” what the fuck.>Describes finding a series to scanlateWhat a retard lmao. Like clearly OP was just asking about easily finding untranslated manga. No one implied that there's not an insane amount to choose from. That's the whole reason OP was asking.
>>275193887>seething OP
>>275193822Do they say 'thanks for the cap' instead of 'chapter'? If so, they're filthy dumb beaner scum.
>group needs staff to work on a series>this was a few years back>join their discord and tell them I can do it>radio silence for a couple of daysBad sign? Not like I need help anyways, but I though I should ask first anyways.
>>275193848Is that Tatari? Damn shame... If I didn't already have like five other projects, I would've liked to help TL it after the previous translator vanished.
Has anyone looked into ripping from bilibili since they changed their encryption? I want to know if they legit shat on their image quality or if it's just nu-hakuneko that's not doing as good of a job as the old version.
>>275194092>radio silence for a couple of daysis the discord/group already dead? you might've asked to join the corpse of a group
>>275194092>a group that uses trannycordYou expected what exactly?
Can anyone make this out? 空中土下倖, is the best I can get from it.
>>275195908Look at what the characters are actually doing, obviously 土下座 bwaka.
>>275195908last character looks like 座 to me
>>275191081I got into it because I wanted to work on manga that haven't updated in years.Don't have a good record. But I'm still going through with it.
>>275193848>It's been over a year since Tatarianon disappeared on meDamn, time flies.
>smart enough to learn (or "learn") Japanese>yet so utterly retarded to the point of being unable to find any manga to read or scanlateWhy are translators like this? More often than not, the initiative to work on particular series comes from the editor, too.
>>275196614If find manga for yourself you won't have time to translate.
>>275196672Contrary to popular belief, translation doesn't take long at all, assuming you actually know the language. If you have to bury your head deep into the dictionary every other bubble, then that's on you.
>>275197227anything more complicated than superficial pleasantries and clichés will still require a bunch of thought, even something simple like preserving the intentional use of rhyme or a pun rather than letting it get lost in translation takes a bunch of concerted effort from even a good translator that's not a competent humorist or poet in two languages.
>>275197227Translation takes a lot more effort and time than reading.
