I want to read this manga, but I've heard bad things about the mangaka and confirmed it. Do I keep reading regardless of the author, or drop it out of principle?

Don't read it because the manga's release slowed to a crawl and what is released has dredged on forever. Steven King can finish a novel in two weeks but this is still incomplete after 8 years. It's bordering on permanent hiatus and if anything you should drop it because there's no point in reading a story that will never be finished and that is the direction it's going.

To you, you're going into it with her bullshit already in mind so your confirmation bias is going to see it all over the manga: where it is and where it isn't.I don't think you stand much a chance of enjoying it really.
