Why do you watch anime characters play mmo RPGs rather than playing them yourself?
>>
Why do you watch anime characters get run over by a truck rather than being run over yourself?
>>
Why do you watch stuff when you could do stuff?

Two of those are from the same series.
>>
You can do both anon
>>
I don't like competitive games because I suck and deep down al MMOs are competitive
>>
>>275218496
I do both. Watch animes while I'm grinding or crafting.
>>
Anime MMOs don't exist. What a retarded question.
>>
>>275218496
There are no MMO RPG's like the ones depicted in those anime.

They are always some kind of advanced VR games.

The sense of community that exists in "anime" MMORPGs no longer exists in most present-day titles (Western ones, at least). Most players who can play solo do play solo, and those that can't join guilds almost exclusively for doing content they can't do alone. OSRS is about the only one I can think of that still has enough of a community that you can strike up chats out in the wild, and OSRS is nothing like any MMORPG an anime would be based on (no race/class/mana systems, magic requires physical resources, indisputably British, etc.). In other words, watching anime MMORPGs is kind of like watching historical fiction: enjoying a period of time no longer accessible to the modern gamer.

Are Japanese MMORPGs different though? I know there's a few obscure ones with relatively small playerbases (hell, even SAO only had 10000 players at release in the anime/LN version), so maybe the community in those is closer to the ideal experience.

I hate video games

same. they're so fucking boring. only game I have fun with is league of legends.
>>
>>275219130
If you have to force multiplayer then that’s proof multiplayer wasn’t appealing in the first place. I’m glad mmos are now mostly solo content and hopefully studios make the rest of their mmo content soloable.

I liked watching my older siblings play, that being said I stopped watching adaptations ages ago

Can't get my haremslop needs fulfilled in a real game. I guess a TTRPG would work but then I need to find cute girls who wants to enact this with me and honestly that's just impossible and also too close to a real world harem which I absolutely don't want

Because I don't want to pay someone a monthly fee to let me do virtual chores.

>that’s proof multiplayer wasn’t appealing in the first place
No, it's proof that their implementation of multiplayer isn't appealing. People like working together with equal effort to achieve common goals and reap equal rewards. It's literally a fundamental, evolutionarily reinforced behavior that exists in all social animals. People do not like:
>doing their own thing without any real way to interact with their team and thenbeen failing because some other teammate they had no way of helping did something wrong
>having to coordinate complex plans with strangers that they'll only know for all of 5 minutes before those strangers disappear into the digital sea, never to be seen again
>working together with a group of people and then have only one person get anything useful out of it, which was dropped purely by chance and is rewarded independent of skill, effort, strategy, cooperation, friendliness, knowledge, genuine need, or contribution to the group

Ragnarok Online is too outdated now and no decent successor has emerged.
>>
>>275218496
graphics are better, interaction is better, more beast races, can check in for 30 mins once a week rather than having to nolife it.

I don’t play video games.
>>
>>275218496
I never got into MMORPGs but I always found the concept of living inside a MMORPG interesting.
>>
>>275218496
You can't cheat in real mmoRPGs. They are a slog worse than work.
Single player RPGs are better.

Anon still with nostalgia goggles for runescape, no you can't have your wild chat like you did in the past. Nothing old school in osrs.

Anime cuts out 12 hour grinding the 2 months long drama and jumps to the actual fun part

MMOs require friends in order to have fun, which I lack

because the mmos that they play don't exist in real life, they always play a romanticizes version of what mmos were in the early 2000's and mix it with table top rpg elements.
