The cover features Ryotsu drawn by Akimoto, Oda, Horikoshi and Furudate; with the opening pages featuring him drawn by all the other authors with ongoing serializations in the magazine. In celebration of Kochikame's anniversary and ending, every chapter in the magazine has some reference to Kochikame, in the form of Ryotsu's iconic eyebrows. This is similar to the same variety of cameos that occurred in the issue celebrating the series' thirtieth anniversary (although there it was Ryotsu himself). As with the previous decade's cameos, they vary extremely in subtlety and whether or not the author erased or preserved them in collected form.

This is the only clearly intentional example of a serialization in the magazine's history receiving the cover for its final chapter. This was in-part due to planning everything well in advance so the series' could celebrate its 40th anniversary, final chapter and 200th volume all at the same time. The volume, released on the same day as this issue, collects the chapter printed here with a different punchline. Due to the significance of this issue, it was given a second printing at the time.

Reprint of the first Kochikame chapter from Weekly Shonen Jump #387 - No. 29, 1976. This is something of an inherent contradiction to the unnumbered nature of Kochikame chapters as the 40th anniversary being celebrated was for the first chapter of the official serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump #401 - No. 42, 1976. The reprinted version is an extremely rare instance of a chapter being published in full four-color in the magazine (full two-color chapters however were very common for Kochikame's first decades). Neither the pilot nor the first official serialization chapter had any color pages and another series received the cover of its serialization debut, making Kochikame simultaneously the most celebrated final chapter and one of the most underpromoted beginnings of a major series in the magazine's history.
