They mean totally different things to completely distinct eras, virtually nothing about them can be directly contrasted in a way that is meaningful. NGE is also not a "cult classic", rather it is simply a classic. Frieren is not going to be remembered in the same way as NGE, but it absolutely will be remembered, discussed and relevant for a very long time.
