Either nothing changes and so the time skip was pointless, or a lot changes and we miss out on actual getting to see those changes take place.

Dragon Ball's 3 best arcs all occur immediately after a timeskip
>>
it is
>>
Seeing Goku impregnate Chi-chi and her carry a baby for 9 months isn't as interested as you're making out.

>Seeing Goku impregnate Chi-chi
It's the biggest mystery in Dragon Ball so yeah it's interesting
>>
Timeskips are exciting in theory but execution-wise they always fall flat imo, it mostly ruined One Piece for me.
>>

One Piece did it right because the characters barely changed but the state of the world changed bigly. If they didn't shake the world up after Marineford it wouldn't be as interesting

Saiyan, Cell and Buu? Agree for the first two, at least.
>>
>>275226667
It all depends on execution, just as anything in life. Timeskips can facilitate many avenues that would seem absurd had the characters remained in one point in their lives.

23rd Budokai, Saiyan, and Androids/Cell.
>>
In the case of Dragon Ball, the timeskip after Goku beats Piccolo Sr. and goes with Kami to train is stuff we've missed out on. The timeskip after getting married doesn't seem like it has much going on unless you're interested in SoL Goku.

Quick rundown on an anime called Layzner
>High budget 80s mecha with a lot of famous staff
>Show fucking sucks, flops hard
>To try saving the show they do a timeskip in which the setting changes from generic mecha to Fist of the North Star (MC gets a motorcycle and nunchucks holy shit!!)
>The show is better after the timeskip but still fucking sucks, gets canceled
It is the one example of a timeskip working because everything changes for the better yet nothing of interest happens off-screen.

One of these things is not like the other.

It went from a 2/10 to a 5/10. Huge win in my books.
>>
>>275232968
It was literally more popular than Zeta Gundam
>>
I think JoJo's Bizarre adventure does it well.
>>
>>275232968
You clearly have no idea what the fuck you are talking about
>>
>>275232968
>show fucking sucks
Anon, if you'd stop asking dicks, you'd realize that Layzner did pretty well, it was canned because the main sponsor, Sanyo, had a major recall of heaters because they exploded.
>>

But there are no timeskips in JoJo?
Each part is condensed story after which different 'arc' is completely changed and there's barely connection.

DBZ was a total upgrade. People just shit on power levels nowadays because they're contrarians. The series evolved in every way. Even the atmosphere changed for better
>>
>>275229268
>>275231193
I meant 23rd, Saiyan, and Buu. Cell is shit
>>
>>275239089
DBZ's timeskip felt natural. As in Kid Goku's story was finished, 15 volumes is a long time, plus he only turned to teen in vol 16, after that it's gradual progression with him becoming adult.
