What's the difference between romance manga/LNs for women and romance manga/LNs for men? And which do you prefer?
>>
>>275240811
As a man... I don't really care for either.
The ones for men are almost always romcoms where the guy hooks up with some impossibly hot girl then proceeds to fuck up every possible interaction forever and never get so much as a kiss.

The ones for women focus on multiple prospects too often and while there is usually skinship or intimate moments, the problem is the characters are rarely ever flawed and all the focus is on hot guys just magically happening to the girl.

Yuri ones are a weird mix of both.

What I really want is a series where both the MC and the romantic interest are just fairly normal people who hit it off, and then as they get tangled up in life there are some great notes, and some bitter notes. I want intimacy, I want fights, I want jealousy and sex, concerns of cheating that aren't instantly resolved wacky misunderstandings... I want heavy moments that hurt, I want to actually feel something when I watch it. I want it all.

Have you tried Clannad? It's fairly realistic, and the anime focuses on the main heroine.

It can be, but none of those are

Romance for men would be the ones like Nodame Cantabile, Shigatsu no Uso, and White Album 2.

Insomniacs After School
Completely grounded and both characters are completely on each other's level.

Realistic romances are rare in anime simply for the fact that it is seen as a pretty childish genre.
The art style alone is based off disney child-like proportions
If you want serious stuff, you have to watch live action films

None of the top row is for women. Tonikawa and Hokkaido Gal are shounen, Bisque Doll and Fuukoi are seinen.

It is for girls, but published on a seinen magazine cuz shoujo ones are too strict on their guidelines so authors have to go to seinen magazines to write what they want.

This, they're the same, bar some flair and minor differences.
MC is a plain Joe/Jane and gets several good looking suitors, who fight with each other for 100 chapters while the MC fiddles their thumbs, until the author gets bored/cancelled and rushes a mid ending in a couple chapters.

Emma is a very nice grounded Jane Austen-ish romance. I enjoyed the story a lot.

That's not true. While there are shoujo manga like that, usually they have the main couple and side couples decided from the beginning and the story is about the relationships developing. The main couple may get together very quickly too.

You sound like such a fucking troon, fuck me. The second part of your post describes tonnes of mediocre romance shit. Normal relationships don't have "concerns of cheating that aren't instantly resolved", either someone is cheating and basically completely covering it up or both parties are mature enough to not dilly-dally with the other gender in ways that can be misinterpreted because no one who isn't into that shit as a fetish enjoys it.

The genre you're thinking of is called TL which I read plenty of, and that's why I laugh at the notion that Sono Bisque Doll is for women. In TL they have sex like every other chapter and the dominant male lead is so aggressive that he's practically raping the submissive female lead.

Love on the job is the most honest girls perspective romance story.
>>
>>275240811
If there are themes or an emphasis on marriage, staying chaste before marriage, and child-rearing, it's most likely written by a woman and its demographic is women.
A male love interest who immediately sees past her flaws and likes the girl for who she is as a person is also a dead giveaway of a female writer.
If there are heavy themes or emphasis on embarrassing moments, misunderstandings, personal space/boundaries and the female love interest pushing those boundaries, it's most likely written by a male for a male audience. The inclusion of Gyaru at all or the female love interest is extremely mean/hostile/antagonistic towards the male protagonist is also a dead giveaway.
This isn't foolproof but it's definitely a pattern I've noticed.

>>275241425
Insomnia hits an odd middle ground for me. I don’t think it leans towards being for men or for women, it’s just almost universal in how it portrays two people falling in love and working through their relationship. So I guess it’s for both.
>Realistic romances are rare in anime simply for the fact that it is seen as a pretty childish genre
I’d also add that realistic romances are often viewed as more boring since often they often don’t rely on the “will they won’t they” elements nor have as much drama and misunderstandings that keeps the audience hooked. They often also just don’t have marketable enough characters which deters writers who write to get themselves as popular as possible. There’s a lot of missed potential just because of that.
>>
by women is better
>>
>>275262132
Houkago Insomnia leans towards for men, but only slightly
>>
>>275264778
It being a seinen does make more sense then. Never really got shoujo vibes from it nor does it follow shonen conventions. But it does start off with the male MC and follows his POV more often so even if their relationship is balanced and they’re equals, it leans just towards men.
>>
>>275265593
>even if their relationship is balanced and they’re equals
Sometimes women don't want to admit this, but in general women want men to take the lead
>>
>>275266617
This is true. Though I will say it’s back forth at times. They want to lead but let men do so more.

The only one that did it for me was 3D Kanojo when it comes to realism. It might not hit everything you wanted in that the characters are still very chaste compared to the average mindbroken westerner, but they actually work up to having sex in a time frame that's logical for teenagers/young adults and generally behave like human beings.

Op's pic is nonsense, romance for women is Tadano x Retsuko, those chinese webtoons that are all variations of 50 shades of grey, I got snubbed by a department store employee so my boyfriend bought the store! they don't romanticize high school and they don't dream of an ordinary or quaint life

Not always true. Sometimes is two Chandigarh (the childhood / neighbour friend + the school prince) who like the girl for similar reasons (she is totally not like other girls, she is not a bitch and tries her best!) but no rape involved. Bonus point, one of them has a tragic backstory.
