Are they defined enough to be worth caring about without needing to be together? What do they bring to the story by themselves?>genuine romantic developmentDo the couple gravitate closer in a way that is believable instead of just being pushed together for the sake of it? Does them being together help them grow as characters (positively or negatively)? >conflicts/stakesWhether large or small, is there enough tension to hook the audience into any struggles the characters face, to show why the couple should have a romance?>Themes The couple being together complements and emphasizes the messages and lessons the story is trying to tell. If the romance fulfills at least 3 of those 5, then it’s great or on its way there. Do your favorite romance manga or anime have those elements? If not, think about what could be done to improve the romance.
