My friends and I watched UQ holder by accident when we wanted to watch negima, it seems all the torrents for negima were mislabeled and were for that instead. Aside from being annoyed by that fustercluck and the one tranny character it was ok I guess.

It moved away from comedy/romance with occasional shounen to full shounen with I guess some comedy and romance if there was free time.It moved to a cast that simply didn't compare to the Negima girls, they were all variants of the "we have it at home" meme.It didn't give any fulfilling resolution to anything related to Negima, which is what people actually cared about, so without that addressed nobody really cared about the "new stakes" when the old ones weren't touchedAlso Touta is an extremely cliche'd "genki" MC with nothing going on with him other than being nice. Really excellent use of blender + inks made for really immersion fight scenes and vast open spaces that few mangaka can capture. While Miura is a better draftsman on the whole, even some of his earlier chapters feel more spatially compressed, like a Bierstadt painting, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it feels ore "cramped." After Conviction Miura largely solved that issue, and presented many breathtaking vistas, but I appreciate Akamatsu admitting he needs cg and committing to it right from the start. It lends his work a consistency and the locations in UQ Holder are all very fun to read on the age. Some of the later fights in particular have some sick perspective shots in the city, on Inverse Mars, and it made the sexo scenes in the last arc all look really nice. I hope Akamatsu eventually makes a full on slice of life series because his style would be incredible for it.
