Why has Dragonball succeeded in timeskips where other franchises failed? I think it's the only series to handle it fairly well since it seems like a natural progression of the story without feeling too forced or gimmicky.

>>275258085>DendeI know all the namekians look similar but why does he have that much of a rape chad aura? Piccolo looks more harmless and he is an actual fighter
>>275258085I thought about it a bit, and I notice that the main narrative purpose of Dragon Ball's time skip seems to have been to mark a shift from a story about a young man growing up and fighting as a means to seek recognition, into a story about an adult, a married man and a father, fighting to defend others. The single biggest change is adding Gohan as a character. Compare that to Naruto and as far as I remember, the only real purpose was to make the younger characters stronger? No new characters are introduced as a result of the timeskip, no one has new responsibilities, new priorities. Sai's addition is the closest I can think of, and he could just have easily have come into the story as a Sasuke replacement without a timeskip. Maybe I'm wrong, its been a long time since I read Naruto, and very long since I read that part of it.
>>275258085Dragon Ball skips all the useless shit. Nobody wants to see Baby Gohan in the womb or whatever the fuck happened in the 7 year long timeskip. We all want to see the ACTION.
>>275258085Because DB had more than one timeskip. I guess more than two is more accurate since having a small timeskip for the ending is pretty standard. Most series just have one big one in the middle which feels gimmicky. It's just a way for the author to do a reset and sort out some plot threads and offscreen a training arc. Dragon ball does a timeskip every arc which feels more natural because it's just how the story is set up and people come to expect it
