Alright, so starting off with the first partthe chapter actually continues where the last one left off. Serie and the emperor are still talking and exchanging information. Serie straight up asks him if he can't stop the plot as the emperor, and he answers that he cannot. He explains that the reason the empire has lasted a thousand years is because of it's institutional framework. Even if a tyrant were to ascend the throne, the system itself keeps the empire from collapsing. Power is dispersed to many people, allowing the state to continue to function, regardless of who ascends the throne. So unlike the centralized power of the kings of smaller nations, his authority wasn't absolute over the darkest corners of the empire.Before he could finish talking, Serie interjects to ask if that means he isn't even worth taking as a hostage? He asks her to please stop making scary remarks, then says that yes, ultimately his death would simply lead to the coronation of a new emperor. Nevertheless, the emperor wishes to help Serie deal with this plot as he feels severely indebted to Denken and as a man of honor wished to repay Denken for all he has done for him.Serie felt awkward probing about this when the emperor was already so forthcoming. So she decided to explain her own situation. Her precognitive magic allows her to sometimes experience the future in her dreams. The duration and length of these dreams are random, and the likelihood of them triggering is very low. And this magic cannot see the future past the caster's death.

Compared to the hero of the south's, they were all trash.The emperor asks her why she doesn't try to combine several magics to increase the accuracy. Serie replies that it's not that she doesn't want to, but that this is the last precognitive magic she has left. Serie says that she personally doesn't care much for precognitive magic, but many of her disciples treasure it and so she prioritized giving the most practical ones away to those who wanted them. Ironically, her precognitive dream magic had lost its randomness due to her impending death.The emperor suggested joining together with those disciples of hers that had those precognitive magics now. Serie replied that it wasn't an option, as all of them were now dead. She says that mages with precognitive magics are prone to dying. Often due to overconfidence and sometimes from facing off against others with precognitive magics. Serie believes that the current circumstance is like the latter and that her opponent likely possesses some form of precognitive magic.

If she survives, countless members of the CMA are slaughtered. While casualties appeared inevitable, a future where she somehow survives guarantees the worst outcome. The CMA suffers severe casualties. And since its mages have become indispensable to many cities and nations, Serie couldn't be everywhere to protect them all at once. In a way, the CMA itself had been taken hostage, cornering Serie into going to the ball and facing her death. Serie says that without the ability to see the future, it's unlikely that such a large scale threat could be organized to box her in and seal her fate. Serie then asked the emperor if he knew anyone who could see the future.After thinking a moment, the emperor answered that the only possible person would be Frase, but that her magic wasn't so special. After all, as a staunch loyalist trying to uphold the empire and stop its decline, if she possessed the ability to see the future, she wouldn't have stood by and allowed the empire to reach its current state.

The ballroom doors swing open, and the emperor arrives with his retinue of attendants. Serie cracks a joke to Sense, remarking that the vain man has finally arrived.The scene again changes to the underground tunnels beneath the imperial capital. Here, Gorilla and Wehrloss, fully armed, proceed towards their target. Hiding in the nearby shadows, Falsch appears to be nervous.end of chapter.
