>>282344455It makes no sense for Conan to use a smart guy like Heiji, who already suspected him of being Shinichi.

>>282343202gotta track down those stills of Kogoro calling the gals mixed raced and raised in a jungle and every looking at him, open mouthed, to edit
>>282347726I've got to get back to rereading all the shorts, and it's not necessarily my favorite, but ironically this case brought up one I've thought about lately. Scandal is sort of both over and underrated, as is Irene Adler. People can probably already guess the most obvious complaint, which is the way she gets turned into his love interest, but it's deeper than that.Despite the "mystery" not actually being very deep, the short is actually pretty standout in Holmes canon for being remarkably tightly themed. The King of Bohemia is getting married, but also embarrassingly obviously still in love with Irene. Irene herself is getting married, and we have no reason to assume it's not for love. Holmes, meanwhile, not only thinks little of love, Watson goes out of his way to assure the reader in a "no hetero" way about what Holmes thinks of women and even Irene. And yet, Irene comes out the victor. The man marrying for power and propriety is a buffoon who even Holmes clowns on, and Holmes, for all his smug reasoning about women and love, is made a fool because he underestimated a woman in love and came up with a ridiculous plan that was almost immediately seen through. There's all sorts of little neat touches around this theme, along side being a very funny story in general. It's also the first of the shorts, being only the third "Case" that ever came out, which also makes it somewhat remarkable for how it twists around some of the common parts of a Holmes story (disguises, especially with Irene getting one over on Holmes there too, Holmes being able to say someone's name before being introduced also being turned around on him) and so on.It's a really neat, unique story and absolutely none of it ever gets adapted properly any more.
Conan insists that the culprit must face justice no matter how sympathetic, so what does he think about his idol Holmes letting the criminal go on multiple occasions?
>>282344166>she's a karate expert so she always gets her ass beatHuh?
>>282350549It's a great story, no doubt. I don't know if the king realizes that Holmes looks down on him ("you and her not on the same level"). That said, it mentions later that Holmes did accept a golden snuff box from the king as payment for his service
>>282350889Well for starters, Holmes is a fiction, even in DC's setting.

>>282350964She's NOT superhuman like Ran.
>>282350089I would argue Masumi Sera belongs on same level as Heiji, both are really good detectives, just a bit too impulsive and emotional to really come through.Jodie is an experienced agent, but her crime-solving skills are not really that great. Granted, a good part of that is that she often appears in cases where agents like Akai or Amuro need to be uplifted, so she can't shine through much.
Why is Heiji black?
>>282356068Cause his grandpa was, and grandpa's parents didn't explain.

>>282350549Yeah it's a top story by far. Stories where the detective loses are often very entertaining.
>>282349554There are not many descriptions besides the one in a Study in Scarlet, but, yeah, he would obviously dress as a common person to the place he is frequenting to not raise attention to himself.
>>282356431Yeah, Heiji should appear more, but they ended up moving more with his love situation in most stories he is in.

>>282357172Around episode 18, the anime had just begun airing that year.
>>282343275You can tell they are Japanese and fans of Holmes, when not one thought Conan might be coming from the barbarian.
>>282356393Speaking of openings, does Conan have a main theme, like the one Lupin has?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNZl7_W_Q5s
>>282357180If anything, he's closer to Masumi. He has 3 canon appearance in DC, and he isn't impressive at all. He got the culprit wrong in Detective Koushien case, and he fails to see through Conan's identity when he literally saw him used the voice-changing bowtie.
>>282350089My memories about the entire series are a bit fuzzy... why is Rum supposed to be higher than Gin? Afaik Gin is always the one who brings up the deductions, when he speaks...
>>282357119I mean it's not that serious, or at least it doesn't sound like it is. >>282349198I feel like this has to be a trick. 1000 questions of trivia, no outside help, not even 24 hours time and you have to get literally 99% right to even get a chance at winning it. This guy is not really willing to pass along his book
>>282357956He also has an excuse to build cool gadgets now.
>>282357956I don't know, if I wanted a buddy as a grown man I'd rather pick 16-17 year old famous detective Shinichi over 6 year old Conan. Well I guess it's an exciting new part of his life and they can hang out like they used to in the first place so maybe it's even better now
>>282343584>>282343655so the guy with the glasses clearly told her something or made her some offer so she wouldn't reveal the truth, right? He's the only person who talked to her between these two events
>>282343774>that eyecan't believe she was suspect-kun all along
>>282343785it's an interesting set up. All the other guests fancy themselves detectives as well, but because their only experience is mystery-novels all they can come up with are these armchair-theories that sound dramatically satisfying but make no actual sense with the given evidence
>>282344137can't believe the wall was the murderer the entire time
>>282344280the translation captured this bit really well, kek
>>282344415how is this proof at all? there is no way this would stand up at court. Where is Eri when you need her?
>>282347930was it even fanfiction? the one guy said he contributed an essay>>282343956sounds to me like it's one of those non-fiction-books that analyses stuff, like those "The Philosophy of The Simpsons"-books. So he's not even mad because they wrote her character out of character but because they misunderstood what he felt the character was about
>>282344343I wouldn't even count that as manslaughter let alone murderWhat kind of dumbass would whip out a lighter when you can smell gas?
>>282358886People in DC can't smell days old corpses, their noses are probably too weak to smell gas too.
>>282347726Adventure of the Yellow Face, because Holmes completely missed the mark and later asked Watson to rein him in if he gets too overconfident, plus the ending is really heartwarming. Though it might not be to everyone's taste given the current shitposting climate, as well as requiring familiarity with Sherlock Holmes cases to understand how rare it is for Holmes to be completely wrong.
>>282343244>>282343257Wow, these people are insufferable. Not a good look for Holmes fans.
>>282343584>>282343600>>282343655I always thought Gosho made it way too obvious with this one. Even retarded 10 year old me quickly figured out who the perp was.>>282343672Well, evidently not.
>>282344166what a ryonabait
>>282343785I just realized this is a nice callback to And Then There Were None that Kogoro I mean Richard mentioned at the beginning.
>>282350089Sato should be B tier
>>282355631Masumi and Heiji is an interesting one. Heiji's first appeared to job to Shinichi, but later on Gosho throws him a bone or two and made him at least on par with Conan for the majority of times. While Masumi seems impressive at first, purposely making wrong deduction to bait Conan, her subsequent cases are just her mostly relying on her brother and mother.
>>282359802She's used goods.
>>282344266That's right, Richard! It was you, you idiot! You couldn't handle all this Holmeswank as an Agatha Christie fan so you start murdering everyone!
>>282359861So is Yusaku
>>282344309I thought this was the one with the ice blocks, guess I remembered wrong.
>>282358566Damn. That's even worse, because instead of writing an obvious hatefic, they were simply just analyzing one possible interpretation of a fictional character like proper academics. I would've given the book a 1-star rating and an angry blogpost at worst, not fucking murder.
>>282344490Thanks for posting.
>>282350089>Heizo Hattori>B tierWhat? He's Yusaku level. That's why, like Yusaku, he rarely shows up. They're both too OP.
>>282360583One thing I really hate about DC is that there are so many super competent detectives and agents, yet you don't really feel the same level of competence from the criminal side. It lowers the stakes and makes the whole detective thing look less impressive.
>>282350089Kaito Kid? Should be A/S tier
>>282360985>S tierHe is most certainly not above Shinichi. Kaito's best ability is that he can quickly adapt to dangerous situations, but when it comes to investigations he hasn't got much patience for it, the most generous estimate would be that they are on same level.
>>282360583He's a cuckold so I put him lower. >>282360985Kaitou Kid is strangely all over the place. In Magic Kaito he seems to be a better detective than a thief, but in DC, he's unable to display any of that.
>>282362290Because in DC he is no longer the main hero, but the detective's fated opponent. Can't have them both do investigations at the same time.
>>282360583He couldn't be S tier right? He got the deduction wrong in his first appearance.

>>282357743You're 100% right. Thanks anon.
>>282350549There's a short story where Holmes is flexing to Watson by telling things about people by just looking at some of their objects, and then he accidentally figures out that Watson's father was an alcoholic because of how his pocket watch looks.I like that little moment because not only there's a rare occasion of Watson being offended by Holmes (Holmes's deductive powers being so OP that Watson was rightfully thinking "nah he's faking, he already knows about my father"), but it's also one of the rare moments when not only Holmes apologizes, but he also seem t understand that by using pure logic you can hurt your friends by accident. Deduction must never sway away from humanity or something. It's a nice moment.Shame I don't remember the title of the story tho.
>>282360823Gin and maybe Vermouth used to be on that level, above Conan. But then he got dumbed down hard to make Bourbon and Amuro look smarter.
>>282360823The problem is that, while there are a lot of detectives, there's only one evil organization. Making them too powerful runs a risk of turning them into Moriarty from BBC's Sherlock - an impossibly powerful enemy who only exists to taunt the audience without ever delivering a satisfying payoff. It's best to keep them out of the way until the story actually needs them.
