So I think people had recently asked about how the hell Naruto was able to stay popular for so long on a weekly release schedule when even a daily format shows how scuffed the pacing is, and I was thinking about it for a bit; really, Naruto goes to show how important having a strong start is - everyone and their mother will jerk of Land of Waves + Chunin Exams/Konoha Crush, and once you get your claws in the audience you can basically ride the momentum borderline forever. Even with really bad pacing, you can keep people still invested just by dangling some bait of some subplot they're engaged or or whoever their favorite character is, hell just look at how shipfags can have their chains yanked for upwards to a decade and more because once the seeds are planted, it's like a drug that they can't get enough of. It's only once shit finally ends for real and people can take in all the plot threads that got completely dropped for good that people finally realize that the journey past the initial strong beginning was completely fucked.Of course that's just my general outlook on it, I have no idea if Shonen Jump's current business model lets mangaka get away with this kind of abysmal pacing these days (I'm genuinely curious if someone can fill me in on how modern IPs are handled).
