Not to do the kind of posting that derails threads but this anime really made me feel so out of touch with modern anime "fans". Like for example something like Gachiakuta is airing right now, and I've been watching it out of curiosity, but that show has been so fucking boring and ONLY just became slightly good and it's halfway done. But that show is like twice as popular as City and the way people talk about Gachiakuta you would think it's been amazing the entire time. I just don't get it. I loved City, I'm not surprised but it does make me sad this kind of show is unironically sidelined by people nowadays.

I'm not going to turn again series that play the salesman and tease you with a future continuation, or just kind of fizzle out with their best ideas in previous episodes, but CITY being a complete thematic piece resonates with me. It's one of my favorite manga series, and my disappoint in how they were streaming through chapters left when I realized what they were accomplishing in this medium. It's a very special show. And the specific use of flat colors with brushpaint outlines, and bold digital effects is unlike anything I've seen outside of very niche, artsy short film artists like Kazuki Sekiguchi, Sawako Kabuki, Jonathan Djob Nkondo, and Torill Kove. Plus, while I have no desire to force this opinion on others, I think episode 5 stands with Endless Eight as a once in a lifetime anime event.
