He tortured them in the Forest of Death, invaded Konoha, killed the Third Hokage, nearly killed him and Tsunade, and Sasuke was manipulated to join him and so he did. From Naruto's perspective, I think it's understandable that this guy really got under his skin and could easily trigger him into a frenzy. To me, it was always strange how Orochimaru was disposed of later on as well, because of how much build up there had been from Naruto's point of view. Time and time again Naruto was set up as being deeply committed to stopping Orochimaru, no matter the cost. Then, bam, Sasuke 'kills' Orochimaru. This was a major turning point for the series with some good effects and some major bad effects. For Naruto however, it was all simply and quickly resolved with "Wow Sasuke killed Orochimaru, that's great, he's coming back to the village now right guys?!". Simply dumb. But my main point here is that Naruto was deeply and very easily affected by Orochimaru. From this perspective, his transformations against Orochimaru and later Pain (after Hinata was killed before his eyes) were quite effective for the story that was unfolding.
