Are there any autocenter scripts that don't change the document DPI? Also, is IOPaint still the best free redrawing AI tool with its 4 years old Llama model? I saw pretty great screentone redrawings in the pics of that anon who adds huge tits to random characters with NovelAI, but if I wanted to pay for redrawing, I'd pay for PS generative fill instead.

Yeah, even with complicated images it will works fine. Worst case scenario it fixes things to an enough degree that you can hide the few problems there are with text. Wouldn't be working on multiple manga if I didn't have it honestly.
>NovelAI
Huh, I never considered that you can use those services to do cleaning/redrawing. But I'm scared they might change some parts if used for that.

You need to enable billing for the api key you're using, you get 300USD trial Google Cloud credit if it's the first time you use it. Expires after 90 days.
I find the results to be better if you use a 1:1 selection. CTRL+I to invert the mask and only expose the needed areas, for lower res raws most of the time it just blend in perfectly. For lossless raws you need to do some posterize + gradient map wizardry for it to look nice.

Only advantage of low quality scans is that bad redrawing doesn't stand out as much as in high quality ones. It's a blessing when it comes to traced photos.

Assuming it's a proper scan, what's the right filtering order for unfucking shit paper magazine scans?
>>
>>283292746
If you get bleed-through even with black construction paper behind it, no amount of filters will help you.
Normally you'd level the fuck out of it and hope it looks ok. If it doesn't, you'd have to manually touch up until you stop caring and accept that you did more than enough.

I never had to deal with it personally, but if I really cared about it, I'd try to invert the backside of the page, mirror it, and try to reverse the bleed-through with the actual drawings from the other side. Pretty sure the result would still be subpar, but it's worth a try.
Do you have any examples for me to try?

I doubt I could do that to a google model, it's way too brainwashed. I just mask the text with green and tell it to remove green shapes instead.
>>
>>283293107
I use Mokuro but it's not perfect. Fortunately someone uplodaded 30 gb of OCR'd manga which is a life saver to immerse.
For new stuff, even with the CUDA it can be slow for high res full volumes (7 to 10 minutes). The average low quality raw tends to have more mistakes with handakuten and very dense kanji, for obvious reasons. The bounding boxes may get split and overlapped in the weirdest of ways, etc.
The JSON output is not the friendliest of formats but you could spend a couple of hours vibe-coding some script to rearrange the text based on the positions of the bounding boxes and create a regular formatted document, but it would most likely have a bunch of improper line breaks, and misrecognized characters.

It's also terrible at background hand written notes and sfx.

Why not use an action (i.e., a macro) for that?
You can combine it with the Image Processor (I have a 2024 cracked version but it should still exist in CC) to run it in batch for a specific folder.
One of the default actions is the reverse (RGB to Grayscale) which you can use as a template to know what to do, or tweak it accordingly.

Bleed-through is a given, it's shit paper after all. But no, I'm talking about raping scans with the likes of Topaz to boost details that would get completely fucked if you level it normally AND clean (most of it) at the same time. People used to have automated actions for this back in the day, so there must be proper order and tricks to it, right? I just want to know the general theory behind it so I can moderately apply it whenever I need it.

Topaz works wonders when blurring color scans but the screentones in black and white images would throw it off.
You can not perfectly separate noise from detail. Much less so automatically. You will always have a trade-off between loss of detail and cleanness of the scans.
>People used to have automated actions for this back in the day
Yeah, and we totally went to the moon, we just lost the technology, teehee.

Without examples I'll have a hard time figuring out what to recommend. The proper order of actions is always decided case-by-case (book-by-book).

It's the same as proofreading any essay one writes (who am I kidding I'm sure you zoomtards, especially SEAmonkey zoomzooms, just ask the magic box to do your homework these days also and no longer have any real long-form writing/reading ability).

The fact that you AI-sloppa generating faggots are now shitting up even the once-sacred sc/a/nnylation thread just shows how pozzed and r*ddit-tier even much of /a/ has now regrettably become.

AI TL retains more nuances because you sub N1 180/180s can’t correctly decode a sentence most of the time.

Can your AI take all images, previous chapters and other context into account?
>>
>>283334387
>Thinks "N1" means anything besides "able to have a basic conversation with a nip"
Only the kanken matters. But yes N3 - N5's full of themselves can be about as shit as a SEAmonkey raping a script.

What is a good ai tool for redrawing shit that actually comes out with a good result?
>>

Retard, kanken means shit. after n2 audio input hours and finished book count matters more.

On second thought, your mental illness is leaking with every post. I think it's better not to argue with you.

A mid-to-high level is indicative of an extraordinary amount of competency and time invested in the language, and for that it's far more worthwhile than the bullshit that is the JLPT.

Cool, stick to translating into fucking Indonesian or whatever shithole language your people speak, SEAnigger.

Can you believe that in the good old days people redrew shit by hand?

I bet the anti AI hypocrites actually use traditional algo brushes.

"AI" only gets more expensive, not cheaper, the more you use it. Dogshit unit economics.

Oh my beloved native speakers. Since I'm not a native speaker I'd like to have your input on this matters:

>Is “He confessed to me.” a normal way in English to say “He told me he loves me.”
>Is “My heart isn't ready.” completely equivalent to “I'm not mentally ready for it.” and not at all a very floaty sounding phrase that would raise eyebrows when said in a normal everyday situation
>Is the BBC being awkward when it says “It's currently 16 hours."? I'd especially like to have the input of a native speaker who doesn't even use 24 hour clock ever as those are of course the most reliable to get information about natural 16 hour clock verbalizations.

Since I'm only a humble non-native speaker and definitely not subject to the arrogance of thinking that I know better than native speakers. I'd really like their input on this.

mostly using kobo/calibre/dedrm for volume raws, hakuneko for comic walker, and otherwise the scanlation school script that works on nearly anything, but slow

IOPaint is probably still the easiest available one that's free.
Basically combine it with content aware fill and you can redraw like 95 percent of a chapter easily.

I don't really like how it changes the whole image and make some detail complete smudge, but the way it manages to draw over characters is pretty impressive.
Though if it redraws over some text it just give random bullshit like the text on the banner
>>
>>283335196
You can intuit 99% of SFX.
>>
>>283335196
Mimic it with your own voice
>>
>>283335196
I usually check places like jaded sfx or ask chatgpt.
If I can't figure it out, I just write it out in romaji and call it a day.
No need to make things complicated since no one really cares about sfxs.
>>
>>283335198
it's the same as iopaint or other generative fill, just hide the bad stuff with big strokes and if it looks good, it is good
the important bit is that it's a massive time saver, especially if you're a solo group
>>
>>283335196
Mangaka literally invent new sfx all the time. Start making noises with your mouth like you're a baby again and transcribe the next closest sound.

Skill issue, don't tell me you're worse than a toddler. Jokes aside each individual sound and which position they are within the SFX actually has semantic meaning.
This summery paper is a pretty good start to get yourself up to speed
日本語の擬態語の音象徴について認知言語学的視点.pdf
https://catalog.lib.kyushu-u.ac.jp/opac_download_md/2794863/p019.pdf
Or you can consult the bible of this field:
the sound-symbolic system of japanese.pdf
https://archive.org/download/soundsymbolicsys00hama/soundsymbolicsys00hama.pdf
Actually, the best way to use these is to throw them into Gemini 2.5 pro and ask it to breakdown the SFX in question into individual phoneme and ask it to produce a report with verbatim quotes from the papers and page numbers for you to verify.

>>283334547
NTA but this almost-outdated model is probably the only free model capable of doing that, though I doubt the "easily" part.

What's the chaddest option?
JAPANESE HONORIFICS: Hey! It's our classmate, Takashi-San!
TRANSLATE HONORIFICS: Hey! It's our classmate, Mister Takashi!
HONORIFICS ONLY WHEN THEY WOULD APPLY IN ENGLISH: Hey! It's our classmate, Takashi!

>>283335574
Whatever I feel like at that moment
>>
>>283335511
>produce a report with verbatim quotes from the papers and page numbers for you to verify.

the correct way is to ask to be spoonfed. blame it if it goes wrong ofc.
>>
>>283335574
Translate it always. Also in the case of the last one. People get their opinions of what is “normal” in Japanese culture from certain forms of fiction without realizing that it isn't normal in Japan either to refer to your friends with family name and honorific, or at least not as normal as that kind of fiction would make it as it's just to show the protagonist is a low test beta cuck who calls everyone by family name and honorific rather than a normal purpose for maximum self-insertion and shit.

Japanese people just call their friends by given name in general and one can also clearly see that it's mostly a thing of those kinds of stories whereas in stories with normal characters people generally just call each other by given name. People aren't doing that honorific shit i say Dragon Ball.
>>
>>283320854
So what DO you do if the series you're scanlating had all chapters pulled?

>>283335574
I dump the script into an llm and have it decide for me

Is translating novel or manga harder?
>>
>>283335729
>People aren't doing that honorific shit i say Dragon Ball.
Bulma literally never calls Goku anything but "Son-kun", you retarded dubshitter.
>>
>>283336702
Translating? Novel. More text and you can't rely on visual context. Readers can follow along some of the worst manga translations just by looking at pictures. A novel translator needs to be able to comprehend and not just guess.

In general and if you have a firm grasp on the language? Manga is so much worse. Typesetting is a pain in the ass. Even if you do the bare minimum, you still need to scrape meaning from lines to cram them into bubbles. The few times I've translated novels it's so liberating having practically infinite space to write. The only reason I don't do it more often is no one gives a fuck about novels unless they're from a well established franchise.
>>
>>283336829
Bloomer is low test and everyone else just calls him by given name and so does he, most of those characters don't even have a family name and Bloomer is clearly meant to be European so it's hilarious anyway.
>>
>>283336702
Depends on the series.
>>
>>283334929
That's very good. Does it redo the whole image instead of changing the parts you want changed?
>>
>>283338772
The chat version does, but you can just paste it over the original and mask away all unnecessary changes.
>>
>>283285039

you can still upload dmcad chapters, just make sure to use vpn and a throwaway account
