What are you working on?
Are there any autocenter scripts that don't change the document DPI? Also, is IOPaint still the best free redrawing AI tool with its 4 years old Llama model? Only advantage of low quality scans is that bad redrawing doesn't stand out as much as in high quality ones. It's a blessing when it comes to traced photos.

Assuming it's a proper scan, what's the right filtering order for unfucking shit paper magazine scans?
>>283292746If you get bleed-through even with black construction paper behind it, no amount of filters will help you.Normally you'd level the fuck out of it and hope it looks ok. If it doesn't, you'd have to manually touch up until you stop caring and accept that you did more than enough.I never had to deal with it personally, but if I really cared about it, I'd try to invert the backside of the page, mirror it, and try to reverse the bleed-through with the actual drawings from the other side. Pretty sure the result would still be subpar, but it's worth a try.Do you have any examples for me to try?

>>283294093I doubt I could do that to a google model, it's way too brainwashed. I just mask the text with green and tell it to remove green shapes instead.
>>283293107I use Mokuro but it's not perfect. Fortunately someone uplodaded 30 gb of OCR'd manga which is a life saver to immerse. For new stuff, even with the CUDA it can be slow for high res full volumes (7 to 10 minutes). The average low quality raw tends to have more mistakes with handakuten and very dense kanji, for obvious reasons. The bounding boxes may get split and overlapped in the weirdest of ways, etc.The JSON output is not the friendliest of formats but you could spend a couple of hours vibe-coding some script to rearrange the text based on the positions of the bounding boxes and create a regular formatted document, but it would most likely have a bunch of improper line breaks, and misrecognized characters. It's also terrible at background hand written notes and sfx.

>>283335196Skill issue, don't tell me you're worse than a toddler. Jokes aside each individual sound and which position they are within the SFX actually has semantic meaning. This summery paper is a pretty good start to get yourself up to speed日本語の擬態語の音象徴について認知言語学的視点.pdfhttps://catalog.lib.kyushu-u.ac.jp/opac_download_md/2794863/p019.pdfOr you can consult the bible of this field:the sound-symbolic system of japanese.pdfhttps://archive.org/download/soundsymbolicsys00hama/soundsymbolicsys00hama.pdfActually, the best way to use these is to throw them into Gemini 2.5 pro and ask it to breakdown the SFX in question into individual phoneme and ask it to produce a report with verbatim quotes from the papers and page numbers for you to verify.>>283334547NTA but this almost-outdated model is probably the only free model capable of doing that, though I doubt the "easily" part.https://aistudio.google.com/prompts/new_chat?model=gemini-2.5-pro
What's the chaddest option?JAPANESE HONORIFICS: Hey! It's our classmate, Takashi-San!TRANSLATE HONORIFICS: Hey! It's our classmate, Mister Takashi!HONORIFICS ONLY WHEN THEY WOULD APPLY IN ENGLISH: Hey! It's our classmate, Takashi!
>>283335574Whatever I feel like at that moment
>>283335511>produce a report with verbatim quotes from the papers and page numbers for you to verify.>verifythe correct way is to ask to be spoonfed. blame it if it goes wrong ofc.
>>283335574Translate it always. Also in the case of the last one. People get their opinions of what is “normal” in Japanese culture from certain forms of fiction without realizing that it isn't normal in Japan either to refer to your friends with family name and honorific, or at least not as normal as that kind of fiction would make it as it's just to show the protagonist is a low test beta cuck who calls everyone by family name and honorific rather than a normal purpose for maximum self-insertion and shit.Japanese people just call their friends by given name in general and one can also clearly see that it's mostly a thing of those kinds of stories whereas in stories with normal characters people generally just call each other by given name. People aren't doing that honorific shit i say Dragon Ball.
>>283320854So what DO you do if the series you're scanlating had all chapters pulled?
>>283335574I dump the script into an llm and have it decide for me

Is translating novel or manga harder?
>>283335729>People aren't doing that honorific shit i say Dragon Ball.Bulma literally never calls Goku anything but "Son-kun", you retarded dubshitter.
>>283336702Translating? Novel. More text and you can't rely on visual context. Readers can follow along some of the worst manga translations just by looking at pictures. A novel translator needs to be able to comprehend and not just guess. In general and if you have a firm grasp on the language? Manga is so much worse. Typesetting is a pain in the ass. Even if you do the bare minimum, you still need to scrape meaning from lines to cram them into bubbles. The few times I've translated novels it's so liberating having practically infinite space to write. The only reason I don't do it more often is no one gives a fuck about novels unless they're from a well established franchise.
>>283336829Bloomer is low test and everyone else just calls him by given name and so does he, most of those characters don't even have a family name and Bloomer is clearly meant to be European so it's hilarious anyway.
>>283336702Depends on the series.
>>283334929That's very good. Does it redo the whole image instead of changing the parts you want changed?
>>283338772The chat version does, but you can just paste it over the original and mask away all unnecessary changes.
>>283285039Nothing
>>283335833you can still upload dmcad chapters, just make sure to use vpn and a throwaway account
