I have thoughts about the last 3 days and a few minutes to write them.

>sleep
I think this was a pretty good one, I think at the last moment when crazy serial killer was hanged and his whole life flashed before his eyes, I think it was like an unintentional brain overload that overwhelmed his brain and made him a copy of the crazy serial killer.
>the demon king of dust
I liked this one too, even though the dad was stupid for just realizing something was up with Nihei, and not trying ever clean the 3rd floor and bury the people, it seems like Nihei’s death was like a spooky youkai summoning/birthing of the antichrist.
>perpetual motion/I don’t remember the name
The guy was a dick, and the ending was predictable. I just wish the 2 girls had both lived and mc had himself 2 bitches trauma-bonded to him so he could’ve had regular 3somes.

Has Ito ever drawn a girl with truly prodigious mammaries? It feels like all I ever see are medium tits from him. I want to see some truly massive gonzagas, but I don’t know what story would have them……
>>
>>283373010
It was pretty classic but I think it also felt a little weak for that reason. Bits and pieces of it we've seen before in his other stuff, the suicide bugs from Sensor come to mind, so even as a classic curse story it didn't hit as hard.
Perpetual motion felt like a weaker Gyo, with the weird zombies and the sensitive girlfriend. The gawking at "wawwo, a perpetual motion machine! And another!" felt off in an "I think this would be cool" vs "this could make horror" way. The structure of the story might be what's wearing out.

You can tell how he was running out of steam ideas wise in the stories. A lot of silly twists or half baked ideas like dust dad being afraid of left in the dust and also not realizing his maid never aged. Overall, I still really liked these ones, especially the pulley one. Lots of nice details in the machines. They felt very Ito-y, just in a sort of direction he doesn't usually go.
>>283367206
Thanks for posting, OP. A shame we couldn't end right on Halloween..
>Have you ever received a deadly omen?
One time I was out at night for a walk and a very tall bird, like a big egret or heron, was right in the middle of the path. It stared me down for what felt like forever before it walked off. At least I haven't died yet.

If OP is willing, we could have a poll to choose the best stories and redo them up until Halloween.
Someone was asking for everyone's Top 3 in the previous thread.
>>
>>283377038
>>283376412
Top 2 then?

I know I've asked before in this thread, but I forgot;

>A story where some boy says he wants to join the war but his sister says everyone says he broke his leg so he wouldn't have to go
>a story from a few weeks ago very similar to the enigma of Amigara fault, with people sayinething was just right for them, maybe early October or September?

Also, could I get an archive link to the thread where OP dumped grease?-or the one with the kid who drinks Olive Oil and pops his zits on his sisters face?
>>
>>283366708
Man, I really like that cover
Crazy aesthetic
>>
>>283375460
Saki?
>>283375394
Heh, I meant kind of like if any anons knew of any good stories he had already written with them. I've read most of his stuff I feel like, and while he can draw pretty girls, I've yet to see him draw any stories with truly prodigious mammaries, the kind where I look at them and go "woah those're big"! You know what I mean.

My idea for a horror story is kind of strange, but he already did No Longer Human, and that was porny as all hell. I was playing through a hypnosis eroge like 10 years ago and after I finished and got through fapping, all I could think was this would be pretty horrifying from the girls/husbands point of view

>having tea with the mc and just before he's about to leave you get a very strange taste in your mouth
>actually he told you to remmeber drinking tea, he was using your mouth like an onahole
>eventually mc reveals it, but she's stuck staring in the mirror as a doppelganger pulls her in
>it's an alternate personality the mc created for her, and she's stucks in a trance while the old her is being erased but from her perspective it's like this new lewd her is killing her
>stuff with the husband wondering why his wife is suddenly so distant

Those games would be horror from anyone but the MCs perspective.

I had a waking dream of a grown man calling for his mother while dying. Some real George Floyd shit. Realizing it could be me I started to rethink my life and my relations.

Done. Not a climactic end, but that's how things go. I've enjoyed Ito's work for a long time now (in fact, he's probably one of the reasons I'm an avid manga reader today), and doing this daily had been on my mind for a while, too. I just hope some more /a/ posters have gotten a chance to enjoy his truly unique style and worlds, and maybe dispel the idea that Ito is a talentless hack that seems to be prevalent at times. Thank you for reading.
What are your thoughts on Junji Ito? Did your opinion change from what you thought at the beginning of the daily? Favorite series? Favorite oneshot? Favorite character? What did you love and what did you hate? Any lingering thoughts?
I will post Moan in a new thread later. And next manga will be Orochi. See you tomorrow! And have a spooky Halloween in case you don't join in!

Again, thanks for the past (almost) year. Reading through an author's full body of work in (almost) order is something I enjoy greatly. It gives you a real sense of who they are, and how your favourite series came about. More than anything, I'm happy that Ito himself developed into such a character that we came to love through the stories and how we spoke about them
In terms of series, either Uzumaki, Lovesick Dead, or Oshikiri. My favourite one shot's harder to pin down, but I loved the Mimi chapters, since they were basically a collection of one shots. Rasputin was a hoot too, and a shame we couldn't finish it.
All in all, I hadn't read very much Ito before this, but I can say that I loved this whole experience. See you around

You made me spend a lot of money on several of his works, that's for sure. The man should pay you for advertising his work.

I enjoyed Ito since first reading his stories, was fun to read plenty of one shots I haven't before, as well as 'rediscover' some I kinda forgot about.
Thanks OP for dumping Ito's catalogue, always was lookinx forward to it.
I do hope Ito can live decently off the royalities (he hopefully gets).
>>
>>283391299
Thanks very much OP! It's been a fun ride, especially to see some of his less known work.

I think Ito deserves his accolades, since there's still very few artists that can replicate his detail-oriented horror style, and even his less inspired stories are still pretty good. I hope maybe he'll get a chance to retire for real at some point, but likewise I'm hoping he has one more blow out series, maybe.

Overall this was a neat experience, before this I'd only read amigara fault like pretty much everyone else on the internet so going through all his works was new for me. They were certainly a far cry from our old friends like Dowman or Mozocry, and at the start I was a little concerned about just how long we would be spending in the Ito Zone; I can't deny I'm a little glad to be done with it and moving on to something new but I'm glad I stuck with it.
I think out of everything I've seen in this daily, the one that stuck with me the most is that one story with the clean freak mom. The way it ends with the girl getting forced through that tiny plughole still feels like the most visceral and sickening deaths to me.

Thanks OP. I'd read a couple of the famous Ito stories before the dump, but you do gain a new appreciation for the man once you read all of his stuff. For example, I've heard of this conception that Ito always writes stories that end badly for his protagonists, but i'd say it's pretty 50/50 whether the character survives.

At times he struggles with too much exposition or weak executions to interesting ideas, but he's fantastic at creating atmosphere and his characters are instantly likeable even when they only have a couple panels of introduction. It's hard to choose a favorite story, but Splatter Film comes to mind. I'm a sucker for more absurd horror like that.

Thanks again for everything. I look forward to reading more of your storytimes in the future.

>What are your thoughts on Junji Ito?
I love ito stories in general, although some were a bit disappointing.
I remember reading some of your stories when I was around 13 years old and they terrified me. Now I read them again and find them more interesting because of the concepts than scary.
Did your opinion change from what you thought at the beginning of the daily?
I really didn't expect to find so much eroticism and comedy in ito works when I started this storytime.
Favorite series?
I really liked Tomie, although it's hard to call it a series because of how episodic it was.
Uzumaki is technically the best, but Remina has a better imaginary, more epic and colossal. So personally I prefer Remina, even if Remina's characters are better.
Favorite one-shot?
Oh man, there were so many great ones. The ones from the '80s and early '90s feel nostalgic. There were many I didn't know before starting this storytime...
But I'd say my personal favorite is "The Deserter," because of all the implications of the ending.
Favorite character?
shuichi saito. i also like tomie
The girl who eats ghosts is a great concept, but not much of a character.
What did you love and what did you hate?
Ito has some great ideas for his story, like the girl who eats ghosts, the bodybuilder who moves graves, Tomie, the perpetual motion robots, the city with no privacy, etc.
But I feel that Haves has some flaws in his work:
1. Even endings that leave you confused because of how abrupt they are (the story of the ghost children murdered in the alley)
2. In some stories, absolutely nothing happens (the story of the cigarettes)
3. In some stories, so many things happen that they seem like unnecessary plot twists that appear more random than purposeful (the story of that fat woman who hears rumors through a bronze statue)

Double thanks. I think that story is so gross, but funny., reading that excerpt page at the end really hammers it home for me, but it's funny how unhinged Ito could be, he ends up in a Buddhist temple sleeping on a disgusting fucking futon, and somehow we get Gliceride out of it. Was the dad running an illegal business? Why wasn't it properly vented?

I think "The town without streets" is still the weirdest Ito story to me, it starts with that boy and the Aristotle method, then the family starts spying on her, and then she goes the weird town with freaky eye-people hiding in the attic and her crazy aunt who's just walking around with her tits out. It feels like the film irreversible, the 2nd and 3rd parts deal with lack of privacy in puvlic and pivate spheres;or rather, the public and private have completely merged in the 3rd part, and the first is a the worst because it's like she doesn't even have privacy in her own thoughts.

I'll try and post tomorrow, but can we keep this up a little longer? Maybe some anon could go around gathering those "end of" pages that have been floating around in the threads, and post them. I've never seen any of them before, except maybe Sensor(maybe). So I'd like to read them.

Thanks a ton for posting. I am in the same boat in that Ito really got me 'into' manga, I didn't read that much of his before a friend recommended me the Enigma of Amigara Fault.
>What are your thoughts on Junji Ito?
I love his art, and it seems he himself as a human is pretty funny, based on his little blurbs and silly works like the Cat Diary.
>Did your opinion change from what you thought at the beginning of the daily?
When I first read his work, I was annoyed at all the silly stuff, like the finale of Remina or the tornado riders in Uzumaki. I have learned how to enjoy the comedy mangaka moments.
>Favorite series?
Uzumaki. Lovesick Dead, Remina, and Black Paradox come after.
>Favorite oneshot?
Splatterfilm.
>Favorite character?
For the memes, the guy who flexed to show off to the ghosts. For an actual character, it's either Ryusuke or Shuichi, my heroes. Honorable mentions to Oshikiri.
>What did you love and what did you hate?
I liked the variety. The comic and the tragic, even the mixups in types of horror (mundane humans, psychological, gross-out). I hated how some works ended so abruptly.

>What are your thoughts on Junji Ito?
A good author, probably I put him in my top ten mangaka (or maybe top five too). However, I think that he is a nice guy especially from slice of life stories. I want to admit, Ito reminds me a little of Crumb or Ortolani in the way it interacts with his readers.

>Did your opinion change from what you thought at the beginning of the daily?
No. However it's nice to see his changes in drawing style and narrative style.

>Favorite series?
Tom... No! Cat Diary: Yon & Mu.

>Favorite oneshot?
Deserter.

Favorite character?
That little mugga of Soichi, especially when Ito makes him a sort of slapstick gremlin punished at the end of the story.

What did you love and what did you hate?
Love the drawings and the "slice of life" stories. Hate some stories endings

>Did your opinion change from what you thought at the beginning of the daily?
Yeah, sort of, I started thinking he was a bit overrated, I still think he kind of is but he has a rightful place among quintessential manga artists and he was certainly done dirty by the most recent anime adaptations.
>Favorite series?
Rasputin. I know, geopolitical stuff is not for everyone, but the change of pace in writing and the historical/realistic setting make me a fan of the story. The factoids about the late Soviet Union are really interesting.
>Favorite oneshot?

Piitan of course
>What did you love and what did you hate?

>Any lingering thoughts?
It's been months since I first commented on this daily that "this shit is fucking hilarious" and I'm honestly glad that I've seen many people sharing this opinion. To assign the "Lovecraftian" label to Ito is only telling half of the story, because he captures that feeling greatly in visuals but has a hard time translating this in his writing, I think he would have given us so much more if he started out in a duo to get some writing/pacing basics.
Also maybe the nigga mo was in our hearts all this time

The twist was really good. The story of the honey god is also really good.

Thanks OP. I'm gonna miss reading Ito nearly every day. I think Fuchi is underrated, I like her design. I also never realized how great Ito is for reaction images.

I'm gonna miss making edits.
I mean, I'm still gonna make edits for other storytimes, but Ito gives especially good material.

Is it okay if his manga I liked the best was not horror at all?
>>
>>283427573
>not horror
You clearly didn't get it, then.
>>
>>283427573
horror is comedic. real life is tragic.

Goodbye, Ito daily. You will be missed.

You can tell some of these were his older works because they're not as relentlessly creepy as his later works.
