Original title was 不知火 which does romanize into Shiranui. As mentioned before, this is obviously a proper noun. Someone mentioned this in the last thread but I forgot to post Furinkan's note regarding it. "Shiranui is the term for mysterious lights one sees at sea created from phosphorescent sea creatures. This term is also known as "sea fire"." It literally means "unknown fire", apparently. Aside from some monster designs and getting a bit rougher and less dynamic as the series goes on, it's usually appropriately sober and grounded, and occasionally manages to be very atmospheric, even. My stance still is that Mao is a bit uneven, but the mystery stuff still works for me. I do think some of the stuff is pretty straightforward like we never truly expect Hyakka to be a bad guy even with his introduction just by virtue of the teeny bit we see of him. There's still a degree of manga-ism to everything.
