If there was a single BL cliche in this book, I must have overlooked it: the characters, dialogue, and plot are written in a down-to-earth, realistic, understated way and without any melodrama. The novel wasn't as heartbreaking as fujos make it out to be, but it did manage to make me teary at points I hadn't expected. However, fujos are right in reviews about it being healing. I don't know if it's the best BL I've ever read, but the relationship between Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei is undoubtedly one of the best in BL. Their story's going to stay in my head for a long time, and I'll probably reread it once the 7S novels are all out.
