Everyone else seems to have a reason for what they are doing beyond enjoying suffering of others or killing their own child for undisclosed reasons and creating an imitation. The King made a deal with Sea Mommy that we don't know the details about. It'd be interesting to find out what those details are. Also, I think Julian is related to the King, but more in a descendent of a sibling deal. Julian is of the same bloodline. It'll be like how in LOTR you have elfs who meet the desendents of their sibling who made half-elfs and the half-elf decided to stay with humans.
