I was rewatching various scenes from Dragon Ball Z and I think what mostly makes Goku stronger than the enemies he faces is that he outskills them. Because if you look at Goku vs Ginyu, Goku reaches 180,000 and Ginyu is 120,000, not a huge difference but Goku certainly knows more about combat than Ginyu does. Likewise SS2 Goku vs Majin Vegeta, supposedly the same power level yet Goku clearly has the edge. Probably because Vegeta's training methods suck and just involve BDSM torturing himself, without any focus on "how" to fight at all.

Super should have had only red SSJ God early on, then Goku losing it till he unlocks Ultra Instinct, and Vegeta gets Ultra Ego. Red SSJ God being just raw god ki from the ritual that had to be harnessed into an individual new form before being fully useable. You could have Kaioken being a way to temporarily boost yourself with some god ki as a semi-form along the way (because it's a technique from a god), but nothing more. Even if Gohan kept some god ki from the ritual too, it could just combine with his Ultimate state (another god-related technique that would draw that ki out), but lord save me from this hideous huge white hairdo he gets in beast.
