Welp, it looks like the end is near.
When I first half-jokingly started this back at the end of 2022, I never actually thought I would get this far. With how slow the threads were in the first year I expected to quit partway through Skypiea or Water 7, yet time just kept moving forward. I was hoping the end of the journey would coincide with The Final War starting, but I think this chapter acts as a great cliffhanger for what's to come in the future of this manga odyssey. Chainsaw Man ending today also is stupidly funny considering the Fire Punch daily is what inspired me to do this. If I ever somehow decide to do another long-running manga storytime again, it will definitely be on a volume-per-volume basis like the UU Storytime I did last year.
No matter if you've been here since Chapter 1 or started reading along partway through; if this long 3 and a quarter year journey was you're first time reading One Piece or if you've been reading for years... I'm glad that you've all been along for the ride, thank you all for letting me be your captain. My only real regret was not being more active in the threads.

I'm going to start chasing after my dreams again, I hope you all do the same.
One last time... WE ARE ON THE CRUISE!

I first discovered these threads while you guys were in marineford. I was WAY ahead of you guys. I was in wano. I thought there's no way you guys are gonna surpass me. I popped in every now and then. Seeing you guys go from Fishman island to punk hazard to dress Rosa to whole cake to wano. Next thing I knew you guys were pretty close. I promised myself I wouldn't let you guys surpass me and started reading egghead, stopped halfway through, and before I knew it you guys were 30 chapters ahead of me. I've been binge reading like crazy to catch back up. Just caught up a couple of days ago. You guys got me back into one piece, thanks.

Thanks for all you've done these past three years, OP. Water 7 was where I joined up and since then these dailies have been a reliable constant in a rapidly unreliable, changing world. You've done something most people would say was impossible, and that even you yourself doubted you were capable of, and that's something of which you should be proud.

I appreciate all of the acknowledgements that Luffy is a Yonkou in this arc and egghead. It took a lot of work, but he deserves it. It's nice going from being scared of CP9 to laughing at Lucci for a whole arc.

Madlad actually did it well done. I remember seeing the early threads and thinking "this wont last" so I ignored them. After a general lack of visiting /a/, I saw you were on Water 7 so I thought well why not. When the site was down for however long that was, one of the things I missed the most was just taking a couple minutes to read a chapter. All in all, great job lad, doing this really helped me refresh on why I loved the series and why some of the post TS feels not great, but also helped me revise some opinions. I didnt like Whole Cake much reading weekly, but on a revisit I'd give it a Pretty Good. Thanks for everything, especially the UU dump you did. I'll never forgive that bastard Saito for pulling the plug on it early.

>>286977381
Okay, so, what's the verdict? Is it just because Chopper knocked him on his back and he's flipping over like an Othello piece? Or something to so with his fruit being a Human-Human model like Nika? If it's the former then Domi Reversi is looking pretty unimpressive compared to how risiculously broken it seemed (good luck inflicting lethal damage or knocking on his back someone like Demon Rocks, I guess).
>>
>>286977143
Thank you, OP

I started reading One Piece exactly one year after you started the dailies. I eventually hopped on once I caught up with the dailies, which was the beginning of the Sabaody Archipelago arc. Since then, I've been reading every day.

It was a crazy ambitious project, not even the site shutdown from last year could stop you (although we did miss out on some reader reactions I was looking forward to).

I wouldn't mind if someone did this again once the series is completed.

I only started reading the daily near the end, in Wano, so that and Elbaph were the only arc I got to revist.

I really love OP. It's one of a kind. Could be that I'm getting older and my priorities changed, but I really find it head and shoulders above the vast majority of battle shonen, past and present. It's not without its flaws but it's got an unfathomable amount of soul and an outstanding world and cast. I have full faith in Oda to stick the landing.

Okay, so if it's standing between two white pieces, how does that work?
Like obviously Imu's pieces are black, and when they flip, they turn visually black too.
But the opposing side is a lot less uniform. Does the power just know that these people are allied? Or do they need to be visually white enough? Choppen and Gaban would probably qualify for that.

Alternatively, if it's not tied to that, maybe it has something to do with Choppers funny balls?
Actually, tangentially related, what even is his Fruit in current context? We have a few other Human Zoans, but they're very specific people. And from what we now learned from Vegapunk on how the Fruits came to be, it would be kinda weird if it was Model: Just A Guy.

One Piece is easily one of the best manga of all time. The only real criticisms that I can make are that nobody ever dies (even when it would make sense for them to do so) and that Oda clearly never planned for the series to get so long.

This has technically been my second reread, but I jumped in and out a few times.

I honestly think it gets better each time. Mostly cause rereading REALLY help with the bloated, poorly paced post-time skip arcs. This is not an excuse for them, of course, but purely on an entertainment level, it flows better. Wano is still kinda wank, but Dressrossa really benefited from being able to read it all at once.

And you really get a sense of the scope of One Piece. It's a really interesting, kind of one of a kind manga nowadays, which has so much popularity that it was able to create this epic length, heavily developed adventure story. And despite some recent fumbles, it really achieves a sense of scale and development that few stories that I personally think are better written can achieve. There's a real feeling that things have been slowly building, helped both by Luffy not giving two shits about most of it except what is personally in his way, and so there's a huge amount of information and connections building up that the audience can grasp but that the MC just doesn't care about obsessing over.

It's also really got some of the best sentimental cheese in manga today too. Kuma's flashback feels like one of the best, and it's not even that old relatively speaking (though it does benefit from being the climax of A LOT of stuff that's been hanging around). There's something about the tone of the story that lets that earnest emotion hit in a way few other manga can achieve.

>>
>>286980038
I started to catch up in the mid 00s around W7/EL and read weekly via Yahoo Groups, mangahelpers and the scan groups since the start of Thriller Bark (Brook joining in that doublespread at the start of the arc was my first weekly experience!).
One Piece is my favourite manga of all time. Its been there since I grew up and now in my mid to late 30s I can say that it is genuinely impossible for me to imagine a world where I do not look forward to the weekly chapter and spoilers. The weekly experience of W7/EL (though second hand at that point) and the entire Sabaody to start of post-TS stretch is one of the best reafing experiences in my life.

This obviously means it isn't without its problems: "Early installment weirdness" aka consistency issues due to the sheer length and scale of the tale are obvious if you dig deeper and Oda's age is showing: Post-ts is clearly weaker, with arcs being fused to streamline the story (PH, DR), Oda bloating the cast and not pacing nearly as well on a weekly read due to said bloat, along with clearly cutting longer SH 1vs1 fights and crew interactions, which is a real shame. The low point was obviously Wano; an arc that either needed 50% less sidecast or another 50 chapters to not make the last third feel as rushed and actually give the dozen subplots time to develop and resolve (ninja squad, fox dude, mink and Law and Kidd crew fights, numbers, Kaidou and Yamato fb, etc). Likewise, the overcrowded panels and foddee reactions that really took off during Marineford and beyond are a problem. Same with Nika: Cool idea, but execution is a mixed bag. But Oda still got it if he wants to, the Kuma and Harald/Rocks fb are proof of that. Nevertheless, I enjoy OP every week for over 20 years now and I like Elbaf so far, its a neat arc and I enjoy the visuals. Oda doing more doublespreads again is huge in my book, it shows he wants to take things a bit slower again to avoid another Wano fiasco.
>>
>>286986574
My favourite arcs are Alabasta, Jaya, Water 7, Sabaody, Skypeia, Arlong Park. Also like WCI, Amazon Lily and TB. FI is not the worst arc, although the backlash weekly was rough back then - it has its themes and executes them well. PH's middle portion is utter garbo though and Wano would benefit from a complete rewrite, director's cut style.

Great adventure as a whole, it's rare to see mainstream works that can be called epic in the traditional sense of the word nowadays. It's somewhat preachy and simplistic in places while being nuanced in others at the same time. Overall just a blast to read, especially in the middle. Elbaf arc is alright, nowhere near the heights of creative individual fights of Enies Lobby, the teamwork of fighting Orz or the emergent developments of Impel Down. I think the story just can't portray the strawhats as underdogs anymore and that somewhat hurts the engagement, but it's been a decent read even at its lows so far.

I think the sillyness works to its advantage here. OP wears its heart on its sleeve, there's not a cynical or ironic bone in it. The upshot is that when it wants to be dramatic or tragic it never really comes off as mawkish or unearned, you're already in the emotional space for it to hit fully.

all things considered, one piece is a great ride because it is unique. there's many long running manga like hajime no ippo, jojo or case closed, but not one that sticks to one story. the first arcs are great and the grand line is a decent follow up considering how many chapters are there before marineford, but i'm part of the group that thinks the new world has been lackluster in its payoff.
i mostly miss that character dynamics have been reduced to gags. the crew barely feels like a crew and more like coworkers who just react to the story unfolding in front of them instead of having a personal involvement or being active in shaping the story and the world. the best arcs in the story all involve a character struggle of some kind, and that's why i think whole cake island was the best arc in the new world so far, otherwise it's just oda somehow wrapping things up but also introducing more and more things (mostly characters).
the fanbase is cancer, but that's normal for any franchise with a big following. i also feel like the series has dragged on more than it should have and by the time the one piece is revealed it will either be something people had already anticipated, underwhelming or just be spoiled beforehand

Thank you for posting OP one last time, OP-OP!

How did you feel about the daily coming to life over time? A lot of people were pessimistic about it. You stuck it through some dark times. I think everyone is curious about your experience starting this and as it went along. You're a legend now.
>>
A bit melancholic that these mid-night/early morning bumps no longer serve any purpose than to prolong the inevitable.

One Piece remains my most loved story and "thing" in general. It has it's flaws especially in the arcs with less focus on the Mugiwara.

Elbaf had an amazing flashback and some great initial chapters, I am disappointed Elbaf has been hijacked by the gods knights. Would've love more time to explore the island, but I understand Oda has to consider his age and health and can't dawdle forever.

And another bump.

When does a thread die? When it is hit by the bump limit? No! When it drops to page 10? No! When it turns into a cancerous general? No! A thread dies when it is forgotten!

Carrot is fun, you just have no soul.
>>
>>286979296
I don't care at all about Carrot, but Zou is my favourite post TS arc. "Raizou is safe" is one of the greatest moments in One Piece, Jack is a cool antagonist as an unstoppable force giving us a glimpse at a yonkou's power, Inu and Neko are cool dudes, the loredrops are great. Zou is all around very nice.

I didn't even read these threads, but damn, you son of a bitch, you did it!

This thread WILL hit bump limit.
>>
>>287034423
I don't hate her, she's just a total nothing of a character. She gets third billing through two arcs, and WCI is one of the longer ones, and she leaves zero impression. Compare with some of the one-arc-focus SHs like Franky in W7 and Brook in TB and it's not even close. She has her one moment in going Sulong and the entirety of her character, personality and design outside of it can be summed up as "she's cute".

At least she's better than Yamato.
>>
>>286977652
Imuko looking sexo there

It will, because I just bumped it.

hey OP there's a new chapter out
