Time for Main to print her husband for noble ladies to enjoy and sponsor our merry new labor camp in Hasse!
Her name is Myne(mine)
>>287691120and mein, and マイン, and chowmien, yeah.
we're printing through wax now
>>287691100Is the pace still bad?
>>287691201it's still okay enough
>>287691120I call her Mao Mao
This series should have been yuri. Imagine Ferdinand as a tragic heroine with glasses and Myne defying the aristocracy with an impregnation miracle.
I had a dream today in which I was Myne
why does Elvira like ferdinand
>>287691297frederica ehrenfest would have to be a hard working, introverted klutz with a moe gap who becomes super dependable when it matters. and the romance should change from being an ever-cool superior to a slightly bashful superior who main would sink with warmth.
>>287691692>hot>very smart>very powerful>mysterious>interestingIt's not a personal kind of "like", he's just a sex symbol.
>chissa--
>literally told Damuel he is easy to dispose right to his face
Isn't this woman married? Why is she so openly lusting after Ferdinand?
The little chibi scenes are atrocious and will ruin Part 4(if we get that far)
>>287691781He's like a male celebrity. Women don't stop lusting after male celebrities just because they're married. Add to this that Elvira's and Karstedt's marriage is a loveless one.
Stitches.
sasuga rihyarda. no one else is this powerful.
What did he mean by this and why was it just completely glossed over
>>287691201Better than ep 1 and 2 so it's in ok. I wish we got 28 episode though so some transition and nuances/detail are being adapted or to become good enough pacing
>>287691815it's a>how dare you have so much fun outside the castle when you're younger, and an adopted doublenigger
>>287691823That's it? Why bother including it at all then
Am I the only one who thinks Angelica's anime design has a tiny head?
>>287691815His parents seem to be head over heels for Myne so he feels neglected, or at least that's my take.
>>287691829that brat will be corrected in delicious detail on screen, and forced to read for the first time in his life, that's why.
>>287691201It's a lot better this episode
>>287691829For set up there are ton of set up but because the pacing it's glossed over / oversimplified
>>287691792why though, are these chibi scenes drawing from specific content known in advance?
>>287691860They're tonal rape and weren't in the books.
>>287691860NTA but it ruin characterization and small detail that should be included in the episode got put there
>>287691875>noooooo my after credits scene can't be fun reeeeee
>>287691894Who are you quoting? This isn't /v/
>>287691297Keep your mental illness to the containment thread.
Why doesn't Myne just use the force to choke Ferdinand until he learns not to fuck with her and then read her books in peace? Why does Myne let all these people walk all over her when she is the most powerful person in the room?
>>287691923Ferdinand has more mana than her.
>>287691297>>287691711Stop giving Elvira ideas about "Fernestine".>>287691771He knows it.
>>287691875I remember that one where the 3 ojisans are competing about the chef. also this ticket thing
>>287691958>he knows ithey, at least she's ready to keep him around for life
>>287691923Every noble could use the force to choke someone but it doesn't mean they should do it.Less mana means weaker force also it depends on intense emotion so you couldn't just use it. Also we will have break week for the next week because MHA final episode or something
>>287691964You can have silly scenes without flanderization.
>>287691815It was the same way in the light novel, it is built up for the next volume.
Last stitch.
>>287691923What? You want Myne to die?
>>287692004Mf never read any of the ln little comic strips at the end? The chibi scenes look literally just any of the comics in the novel. And in there the characters do act a lot more intensely, being set on fire, screaming and etc. It's part of the series OFICIAL way of doing certain explanations and scenes.
>>287692122I'm not watching the anime, I dropped S1 because it had chibi scenes in the middle of episodes. If they're only post-credit that's fine.
>>287691816It's interesting to see some ladies actually dressed in white. I thought they would be against wearing it as it's the color of Ewigeliebe and he's a fucking asshole. Like, by their rules they need to dress either in the color of the season or of their birth season (and I assume this scene occurs during the summer? Considering Elvira is wearing blue). But for winter they could just use red...
>>287691923Getting tangled up with nobility in isekai is such a bad deal. I hope she can escape them some day.
>>287692147Tbh, the chibi scenes in past seasons were one of the few moments that crap had any proper animation and production... And they were a source of amazing memes and emotes for us in the discord server. So we are kinda fond of them.
IT'S TIME
>>287691279kek
fuck, i'm an episode behindbeing without internet for these past two months has fucked my life
>>287692328Were you get thrown to a cave or what? Anyway, so many cute Rozemyne faces today.

Based Myne knows that women are less trustworthy.
>>287692461Damuel is ride or die. You're a traitorous BITCH.
>>287691692Aside what that other anon said Elvira thought without Ferdinand's help Ehrenfest would've collapsed already.
>>287692453i will try it out and see how it works, thanks
>>287691815His PoV is that Rozemine gets special privilege and attention from his parents that he doesn't get not knowing that she's being worked like a dog.
>>287691923Because they can remotely kill her commoner family?
>>287692605>spoilerWhat, this is not a fact?
>>287691833correct>>287691815it's like this in the novel too, wilfried just spergs out at her without telling her the reason (because nobles never actually say what they actually want to, they always talk in roundabout ways) and she doesnt understand and walks awaylater her attendants will explain what he's freaking out about
>>287691923functionally her family commoner family is being held hostage
>>287692414i hope you get internet soon anon, that's nightmarish, congrats on moving out>>287692919its for sure a fact but most people don't have that opinion (right now) because ferdinand did all of his work from the temple until veronica got sent to prison at the end of last season/beginning of this season
Lessy when?
>>287691100Nice, I need my weekly AI fix.
>>287692200>escapeheh
Techincally speaking, Myne is a cougar
>>287691816I started to understand why Rozemyne loves gradient colors.
So many character building moments skipped or simplified...I know it's inevitable but still.
Will wilfried ever score ?
>>287693696shitfried felt the most noticeable. barely enough screen time to feel why he's so frustrated
>>287693721What? There's more reasons why he act out, but at that point he really is just mad that his own father talks about real work with Rozemyne and not him.
>>287693845hm? maybe the same scenes felt longer in writing. or i'm biased by the rushed bloodied baptism scene.
Address me
>>287693715He prefers to watch instead.
>>287693949jesus FUCK
>>287693873>>287693949I wonder if they will show Rozemyne get knocked out by a snowball.
>>287691100English subtitles with LN-terms.https://gofile.io/d/W0JgSD
>>287693721Not really, it was the same abruptness in the light novel. Ofc it was set up for V2. But from the readers's pov, his frustration also came out of nowhere.
>>287693949your nose cant bleed that much
>>287694092She has extra blood sacs or some shit
>>287694092I don't know about that. I had some pretty bad nosebleeds in my life. I could've easily made those kinds of trails.
>>287694092I happen to be an expert on female anatomy, that's from her period.
>they cut the scene of Myne whacking her head against Brigitte's boobs and her having to softening her breastplateMakes you wonder what the point of even making an anime was if they're not going to put that in it.
>>287693467>cougar
>>287691201Pace is far too quick and the producers/backers of the anime will never want to spend the production time/money to encompass all the important context from the books. Just read the LNs at this point. The anime is a cliffs notes at best now.The light novels have near zero filler, everything ties into everything else. The anime seems to be skipping over about 40% of the context the Light Novels lay out. That context comes into play later in the story in significant ways. The horrendously truncated "restaurant" scene is a perfect example as it severely kneecaps the "final dinner" (much later) in the story, which is likely one of the top 3 best scenes in the entire journey.I don't mind vestigial storybeats getting cut but the anime isn't doing that. It's glossing over and rushing past foundational core concepts. So they either are not going to adapt the whole series, or the tone is going to depart significantly from the books.
we need to go faster!
>>287693949It wasn't a nosebleed. She functionally gets maimed by Willfried and it traumatizes him. Ferdinand intends for this to happen because Willfried is a little irresponsible shit and wouldn't learn how fragile Myne is otherwise. The current Anime season sort of sucks compared to the LNs as it's just rushing through things.
>>287694265how much trombe paper can she produce at that torque and speed if shikikouza applies the tip of his messer to her cheek as she spins?
I think that simplifying things is worse than skipping them outright, because it made the character seem completely different.
This is a series which deserved 40 minute episodes and a more serious tone of adaption.
>>287694356why isn't there -sama after ferdinand? are these TLs for real?
What happened to the audiobooks? They did Part 1 and then fucked off. Where's the rest of it?
>>287694384They don't do honorifics. And as for replacing them with shit like "lord/lady", if Quof was here he'd give you a lecture on how Japanese -sama doesn't work the same way or some shit.
The real crime is they skipped Ferdinand stripping and inspecting her body. Can't show that in TV I guess
>>287694441Just run it through some TTS
>>287694384I do like Ferdinand-sama, it has more feelings than just Lord Ferdinand. However, it has no place in the Official Translation.
>>287694450 >>287694471'ferdinand you meanie' just sounds wrong for formality and distance. but let the official adaptation readers miss out on it i guess, they wouldn't know what they're missing
>>287694458Dropped
I'm starting to get lost and confused with this season so I might drop it. It's like they're mixing up the timeline of events and skipping parts. I'm also sick of seeing gen AI instantly appear every time the OP starts. What the fuck happened to Wit?
>>287692193You actually think the production studio is paying that close attention? They are tripping over themselves to strip away as many nuanced themes as possible.
>>287695016Pick up the LN's. It's a good story. The Anime is butchering it pretty badly at this point to make time, which this type of story isn't conducive towards.
>>287695111slime has a very comfy 8 episodes per volume, you don't get that just anywhere
AIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE my experience have been completely shattered knowing that I haven't been able to read -sama honorifics like a good little obedient weeb.
>>287695183i just felt bad for english readers

>>287695696Remember how everyone got mad because Rudeus is a fully grown adult?she isn't a child
Why is Myne so obsessed with books? Was she reading nothing but smut on earth? Or just yaoi works?
>>287695894So thousand year old loli vampires are now back on the menu?
>>287696003Ignoring their actual age is also discrimination against short people like the hamster banana office lady, and short people already have a hard enough life since girls won't talk to me. Wait what were we talking about again?
>The temple is treated as a disgusting place that tarnishes the nobility who enter it>Ferdinand the high priest is treated as an idol by all the noble womenThis makes no sense
>>287696766He took up the post as a noble, not as someone who lost his status and was dumped there. Also there are many people aware of the faction bullshit going on in the background and the fact he tried to get away from Veronica.
>>287691297>This series should have been yuri. Imagine Ferdinand as a tragic heroine with glasses and Myne defying the aristocracyYes, my secret ship.

Oh, exploitable!
>>287691692>>287692605It's also because her Marriage is a Unhappy one. Truly, Karstedt is not "mainly" at all, dude is a huge disappointment. How could Elvire ever lose someone like him?Meanwhile there was that cousin or Karstedt and friend of her oldest son, very competent, very beautiful, to distract her from everything going on around her and sympathize in suffering.Seriously, some very bad shit happened in that household and is true that if not for Ferdinand Ehrenfest would had imploded though I can't reveal the exact reason why.

>idol grooming and sexual exploitationThis show is kind of dark.
>>287697952Never tease books at Myne
you know, I like the show and all,but people throwing away broth and being stunned by it being tasty is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. That's just not something that would ever happen. It's way way too obvious.
>>287697952This show would be game of thrones if you literally took anyone's pov in the nobles' society. Rozemyne sometimes touches the darkness, but even then, she tries to ignore it if possible.
>>287697878Who doesn't love a good idol episode
>>287697952she'd rape you for a hon
>>287698058Is the idea that just broth alone is for peasants, or did they expect it to have nearly no flavor at all?
>>287696766The Temple is seen as a lowly place because of the people who inhabit it, not because being a priest is an inherently lowly profession. Most of the priests are disgraced nobles, but Ferdinand is there purely to avoid causing problems at court, and everybody knows this. Even if Ferdinand himself has no personal political ambitions, that wouldn't stop other ambitious nobles from using him to create problems for Sylvester. Going to the temple effectively removes Ferdinand from the board, and forces the nobles to find some other way to undermine Sylvester.
>>287698292If I'm not completely insane they said that they threw away the broth, because.... reasons.

>>287694265
>>287699633>passes out 3s later
>>287699180Aren't female knights a little too unrealistic? They lack the physical strength necessary
>>287700175As soldiers or battlefield warriors, yeah, their lesser stamina and strength would hold back whatever formation they were attached to. They'd be a weak link that could be exploited reliably and would never be able to stand up to a charge directed at them by male warriors. But being a bodyguard is a bit different. Most of the job is just observation and preventative action. If an incident does occur and they need to protect Myne, all the female bodyguard has to do is give Myne to her male cohort to carry her to safety while she delays the enemy as long as possible. This doesn't require her to be stronger, faster, or have more stamina than the enemy, if she fights intelligently and focuses on stalling, rather than winning. Her objective is only to ensure Myne escapes unharmed.
>>287700175Not in the Honzuki world. They use mana strengthening, so an archnoble woman will always be stronger than a male mednoble assuming she's gone through knight courses.
>>287700175She's noble so she has magic, which evens things out quite a bit. Myne is an anemic little girl yet her magic makes her so powerful that only the strongest mage knights can subdue her if he goes berserk. A woman trained to fight with only a fraction of Myne's power would probably be equal to any regular male warrior at least, if not easily superior depending on the degree of her magical ability.
>>287700175Physical enchantment spells. That's what Rozemyne is enduring every day in order to walk normally (skipped in the anime). Also their equipment and their attacks are magic-based, so you don't need high strength to wield a heavy armor or swing a heavy weapon. A stronger person may have an advantage in wrestling but there are very limited scenarios where it matters (sealed schtappe for example). So yeah, MY MAGIC > YOUR MAGIC is the only measuring stick.
>>287700175>physical strengthparry this you noble fuck
>>287700813>skipped in the animenope, not yet at least, maybe next season

Unless your mobile provider literally jews out on data, most plans out there, at least in europe, have enough xfer and speed to let you stream just fine. If you're downloading, even better.>>287691201I'm kinda shocked they completely skipped the medical examination this far into the season. I know it's studio vomit, but they just CAN'T skip the setup for the entire main overarching part of the story that is the yureve ingredient collection, can they?Especially that what follows, sets up the entire not-hogwarts start, Myne's familiarity with military matters, monster fighting tactics, and more... they can't just go, "oh Myne, you're unhealthy and it's inconvenient, so lets fix that, jump in this magical bath I made for you"?
>>287691923She'll just tire herself out, pass out and get killed on the spot.
>>287695696Are you retarded? At this point in anime, she is canonically 23 and Ferdinand is canonically 20. This ep was full of scenes where her fujoshi side was showing clearly.
This has turned into such a shitshow.

How much does Rozemyne appear in the spin-off?
>>287709505>>287694383

>>287702440Honestly given that he did the memory dive its actually a bit weird how much he treats Myne like a child, even in the LN's. At least when they're alone you'd expect him to talk a bit more normally but he still often sounds like he's coddling her.
>>287709725She is sickly and looks like a child. She can talk but doing anything extra carries risk to her life.
>>287705454He ruined his own life by being a fucking idiot. Rozemyne literally saved him from being disowned but he still went and believed Veronica/her followers bullshit without any shred of doubt until his own parents had to tell him that he was completely wrong.
>>287709759I don't mean him being worried for her condition, that much is justified, moreso just that even when they're alone he often talks to her like she's a regular 8 year old + doesn't call her shit when she's whining like one, even though she's technically older that he is.

Once Rozemyne write off someone, she never walks back on it.>FriedaDespite becoming one of the most important people in her business, Rozemyne never regard her as anything beyond a colleague.
>>287714350Because Frieda makes it pretty obvious even early on that she's got business brain and thats 90% of the reason she wants to stay close to Myne, it only becomes even more clear after Myne gets adopted into the nobility. Frieda is friendly but she doesn't really come across as someone who wants to be Mynes friend, she's just trying to stay on her good side in order to make a bajillion dollars off her ideas. Unlike Benno, who also wants to make a bajillion dollars off her ideas but also still cares about Myne as a person.
>meets a poor young girl her age, also on the verge of death, but without any perspectives other than surrendering herself to the temple>she permanently cuts ties with her due to jewishness>said girl goes on to become a fully fledged archnoble, archduke candidate, archduchess, goddess avatar with the queen as her mana slave, with more money she could ever dream of>meanwhile you are forever an emaciated heimin laynoble cumdumpster fighting for scraps from bottom tier nobilityDoes Frieda experience the greatest in-universe mogging in the series?
>>287714955Doesn't she just end up as a mistress to Damuels brother? She had better options for adoption given her amount of mana but she wanted to be a merchant no matter what so she had to 'settle' for that. Though she'll still be living a much better life most commoners.
>>287714955I think it was supposed to be Myne, Frieda and Tuuli making the books and then Frieda got cucked out of her role when Kazuki decided there was a lot of grunt work so it needed a boy.
>>287715008>Doesn't she just end up as a mistress to Damuels brother? That is what I said, yes.
>>287715029Being a mistress to a laynoble who's nice to commoners ain't a bad lot in life. Plus again, she chose that rather than higher adoption offers just because she wants to still be allowed to do merchant shit.
>>287714955Author did not know what to do with Frieda so she got left behind. Frieda is genuinely one of the smartest people in the series. It would shift the focus from Myne retardedness.
>>287715452Myne already had the merchant side of things covered with Benno and Lutz and that whole mess, didn't need Frieda and her grandfather muscling in any more than they had already.
>>287715452She doesn't do anything to deserve this praise.

>>287715734as shocking as any generational advantage. doesn't change the fact she was raised to be smart and turned out smart, able to do smart things that deserve praise.
>>287715864Yeah I think you missed the point. Look at Myne, she is at least on the list if not near the top of it, for dumbest people in this story. That didn't stop her from learning a bunch of things and accomplishing all the stuff. You are not even using the word smart correctly here, you can't raise someone to be smart it's something you are born with.
>>287715963>you can't raise someone to be smart it's something you are born withgenes, environment (good nutrition), then encouraging the child to think. without those smarts won't blossom.
>>287716316Yeah if I physically remove a chunk of your frontal lobe you will become dumber. You can do things to prevent someone from reaching their potential, but that potential is absolutely set in stone and cannot be raised even one millimeter.
>>287713697Fine: I want to do many things to Tuuli. There, I said it.
>>287715452Not really.Frieda was a merchant by choice. She viewed nobles as a sort of dangerous monsters - not wild like feybeasts, perhaps possible to negotiate with, but still capable of going bonkers for whatever reason and killing you on the spot, be it for actual or imagined slight. For Frieda, having mana and needing to contract with a noble was a misfortune she'd rather avoid. Even assuming it was possible and somehow she'd be given a chance to follow in Myne's footsteps, she'd likely refuse because nobles "don't do" trade.
>>287713697it
>>287705454wilfried was only given the chance to fuck up and do the crimes later because rozemyne actually fixed his education in time for his debut, if it wasn't for her he'd have been disinherited at age 7. and she's the one that saves him from being not literally executed when its what he deserves by law

Although his grandpa made it work somehow so who knows, maybe he'll get a cute high noble wife. It's hard to measure the mana capacities of the characters, but he should be pretty high thanks to all the boosts he got from Rozemyne.
>>287691923She prefers getting choked herself
>>287722330I heard she lets strange men into her secret room.

>>287723767And hugs
>>287724467High mana family members jumping up the social ladder isn't that uncommon in the universe, so it's not too far fetched for him to find some relatively high mana archnoble girl. Having a lot of mana is still desirable, so he's not that bad of a catch as long as she's not giving up aub status or some shit.
>>287725698he still has a shitty stigma and in a lot fo ways hes still retarded, a lot of stuff needs to happen for him to get a good ending and so far from all the tld material hes still a bad catch

Was Myne a yaoi or smut fujo? Why does she love books so much?
>>287726235She will read anything.
>>287694450>>287694384Yeah that is one of the more significant translation choices I made in terms of diverging from the source material; I don't blame anyone for disliking it though. There is indeed a loss of formality and distance which is pretty real. However, the problem is that there is is TOO MUCH formality and distance with "Lord" by my measure. "-sama" is far more casual and common in Japanese than "Lord" is in English, so Lord Ferdinand comes off as actually way more formal and distant than Ferdinand-sama does. I rolled it around in my head for awhile and tried out some passages with Lord Ferdinand, but I determined that it would have a serious chilling effect on their relationship across the series. It would make it sound like she cared less and was less close to him than intended, which is potentially fatal. Therefore I thought it was better to potentially over-correct in the opposite direction and have them sound "too close." There's a few times where this has dire consequences (notably when she drops the -sama at the end of the series) but I think overall it makes the series much more readable and immersive. "Ferdinand you meanie" may sound poor to you, but imagine 20+ books of "Lord Ferdinand" being used literally thousands of times in close and private moments; not so good. That's just my opinion though. Everyone should read the Japanese instead if they can.
she should just call him Master instead.
>>287727363alright man, i do grant you lord would be worse than nothing. and if the author saw it and put her subjective taikoban on it that is that.
>>287727678I don't like that thing.
Rozemyne a cute!
>>287727363Honestly feels like one of the few times a translation should stick with japanese honorifics even if they don't mesh entirely with the setting. It's not the end of the world to have one of those honorific guides at the end of each book.
>>287729959No thanks
>>287729959Why would you say "one of the few times"? If Bookworm is a series which should have honorifics, then every single series should have honorifics. Which is a fair enough opinion). Bookworm's entire naming schema comes from German and European names, as does the terminology; being 99% German and then throwing honorifics into the mix would be significantly worse than most series. I would imagine it is literally one of if not the worst Japanese series to retain honorifics for. It's not about whether people understand the honorifics or them needing a guide; it's about the dissonance of a bunch of German names and German titles being followed by Japanese honorifics.
>>287730126if a nip author takes the german language, breeds from it non existent frankenstein names based on vibe, AND puts -sama at the end, it's only fair we should be doing the same in her image.
>>287730217It's actually not dissonant in Japanese since, naturally, everyone is talking in Japanese and the German names don't sound German at all. Japanese people view the names as nonsense that's hard to say rather than European names. Therefore it's not really the case that "the JP is crazy, so the ENG should be crazy too." In JP it's not crazy at all. (Of course, this is not to critique the very idea of using honorifics; there will always be people who want honorifics in any given thing and that's a fruitless battle to fight. I just mean it's not like Bookworm in Japanese is some discordant nightmare of mixed messaging, it's all just Japanese and harder-to-read Japanese to them.)
>>287730126Its not usually THAT necessary, especially for works set in the modern day and/or about a bunch of younger kids or whatever, you can translate it to english without worrying too much about honorific importance. But in a historical fantasy setting where characters DO need to constantly show certain levels of respect in how they talk to others, its just easier to keep in honorifics since dropping them makes things seem too informal, while using "lord" and "lady" in basically every sentence would feel really stiff and distancing in comparison.
>>287730524Chill out unc
>>287730524Well, there's plenty of English novel series where levels of respect are important. You can point to like New York Mafia culture for modern examples, and historically obviously in like Feudal times you had to show proper respect according to the tiers. What one should conclude is not "you need to leave in Japanese honorifics, they're the only way to show levels of respect," it's that, at most, the translator wasn't creative enough. In terms of precisely conveying the exact same level of respect, well, a translation is broadly never going to convey "precisely the same" thing in most cases, so that's a separate issue. Like even for things like talking to family members in the modern day it can be tough to get "the exact same" due to differing cultures and nuances to words, honorifics aside. Furthermore, its not like, for example, the honorific is the be-all end-all of respect in speech and mannerisms; every word of every sentence contributes. Therefore, in the case of Ferdinand-sama vs Lord Ferdinand, it's not like the choice is between "honorifics and the correct exact level of respect, or no-honorifics and an incorrect level of respect." A bookworm TL could use Ferdinand-sama and such and still get the level of respect wrong in all sorts of subtle and nuanced ways simply because that's how translation is.
This serie is aparently super popular, so the author has not talked about writing a sequel ? i really wanted to know the main reason Myne was send to that world.
>>287730753Her best friend cursed her actually
>>287730753Maybe she'll write a sequel and explain it after H5Y ends
>>287730298>In JP it's not crazy at all.so we seem to agree it doesn't 'feel' crazy to them, but you could also agree they 'are' fucking up language.my half-serious point is that since at that point the outcome is a mix of languages, none being pure in the presence of the other*, the whole naming scheme can be thought of as its own fantasy language affair, acknowledged to express formality and distance most aptly put by slapping -sama at the end.and i'm glad you're well equipped to acknowledge that how exactly you adapt this pidgin to english is arbitrary, and honorifics are an artistic decision not some hard law.*i mean, it is pure japanese with inserts of weird katakana names, but if you grant me that putting katakana like that in the same sentence as 和語 or 漢語 is an insertion of foreign elements, then you should also agree 'dietlinde' is a frankenstein and equate them at least on an abstract level.
>>287725698they're still resigning themselves to be the wife of a rural giebe
>>287730956>the whole naming scheme can be thought of as its own fantasy language affair,If we want to think of it as a fantasy language affair, the next step should be to make fantasy language in English and invent new honorifics (or take them from German or what have you), rather than use Japanese honorifics. Because when people read Japanese honorifics they will think "weird, this Japanese sure clashes with everything else. I guess the translation sucks." not "wow, what a whimsical fantasy language experience I am having right now."
Myne has a talent to attract rape victimas to her team, which makes me wonder if Ferdinand also carries that trauma which would explain a lot.

>>287731005I forgot, wasn't he also training to succeed bonifantus? Being the wife of giebe is not bad considering most nobles don't even have any land, and she'd be getting the aub bloodline, hence a pretty good chance of her kids marrying into the aub family down the line.
Wasn't Benno in love with Myne in the second season or I am remembering something wrong?
>>287731324Yeah she is his goddess, it's a sexual euphemism.
>>287731282>i mean if most people wouldn't like it, you must write what they prefer. That's actually not what I meant though I see why it was interpreted that way. My bad. I mean in terms of intention, like if our idea is, "Okay, we should think of this as a fantasy language affair, and play into that," then using Japanese honorifics would actually be counter-productive because it sticks out as a fundamental artifact of translation, not a factor of the fantasy language. In terms of conveying a whimsical fantasy language affair then one would want to make up English/German words to suit it because then it will be internally consistent while conveying the whimsy. How much people like it or not is not a factor. Once you choose your intention and try to follow through whether people like it or not is secondary to whether you were successful or not. And I just mean I don't think that would be successful. It's like easy to say "hey, just leave honorifics in, how fantasy language whimsical just like the original!" but in terms of how it will actually be interpreted and the actual impact on the language it would be counter-productive to whimsy. Sadly, it is very rare for the optimal choice in translation to be "don't translate something." (But it can be.)

>>287727363I consider honorifics part of the cultural context, and good localization preserves it, not replaces it with something equivalent from the target culture. If someone wants to read a work of Japanese fiction literature, they should not complain about having to learn about all the different honorifics and what they express, especially that the base of it can be put on a single page, or even stored as external reference accessible via simple link. While I agree in general that a "perfectly proper" localization should not rely on foreign language "leftovers", in this singular case I believe the loss of context is too great to be ignored. The opposite approach leads down a slippery slope towards the cultural appropriation the likes of which we've just seen in YunYun Syndrome, and it all ends in fire. That said, for someone who's been idling on the border between a dekinai and dekiru for years, I probably should recognize my own fault for not working harder to cross it and just read the original.
>>287730753Read the novel HARDER, bro. This is explained in a side story to volume ONE.Motosu Urano's childhood friend, Shuu, exasperated by her bookworm ways, told her one day he hoped she would eventually be reincarnated in a world without any books at all."Be careful what you wish for, it may come true one day" they say. >>287731218Just a result of dying at 20 to wake in a body of a 6-year old that can barely move, and having to surrender to having a stranger old man, her new dad, strip her and wipe her down. A few years on, and she's still melded together with the girl that was Myne and died that fateful day, and she's still - at that point in story - stuck in that girl's stunted and childish body, and it's clearly affecting her mental state; she's prone to channel her inner child that every girl has.
I want more of them. SSC3 can't come out soon enough.
>>287735095It feels to me like westerners attribute significantly more importance to honorifics relative to the rest of the language than they should. Here is a metaphor I thought up myself: imagine Japanese is a red brick wall, and a translator's job is to paint it yellow. There are 1,000 distinct bricks in this wall. The translator goes about painting, and when they're at 999 bricks painted, suddenly someone interjects like: wait! It's VERY important this singular brick is left red! And the painting translator goes, why is that? It's red, the same as everything else, and I'm painting it yellow. They go: No, you see, I always paid attention to this particular brick, and now it would really kill me to see it yellow instead of the proper red. So much color would be lost. The translator shrugs and leaves the 1 brick out of a 1000 red, just to satisfy them. The onlooker walks on, satisfied, ignoring all 999 other yellow bricks. Now, this is a bit abstract, but here is my thought: if you fully know Japanese, then EVERY LINE of a translation will distort meaning and lose context. Japanese and English are just so fundamentally different as languages from such fundamentally different cultures that every single translation, no matter how good, is constantly losing and altering and diminishing cultural context. If Japanese were a wall, it would be like 1,000 distinct challenges which all get painted over. And honorifics are ONE of those. ONE brick in the wall. They are no more or less important than any of the other 999 bricks in the wall. Yet, people give it an extremely undue amount of attention. They could not care in the world about 999 of those bricks, but they devote extreme amounts of time and energy towards arguing for that 1 brick being preserved. Why? (1/2)
>>287735095>>287736280Quite simply, honorifics are easily noticeable. They always come after names and they are easily heard in speech, not to mention often being left untranslated due to being very grammatically distinct. So even foreigners can pick them up quickly and have an approximate understanding of them. They "notice" them, basically, "and "noticing" is key to caring. Meanwhile, for someone fluent in Japanese to explain the other 999 bricks they would have to bust out textbooks, give speeches, perhaps even like hold literal classroom sessions to explain what is being lost and distorted. And let me tell you: If someone understood all those 999 bricks, they would be pissed. They would look at translations as fundamentally disgusting and untenable. And they would be right! If you care whatsoever about the "original text," "cultural context," blah blah, you should read the original text. And I'm not being flippant there or excusing bad translation. What I mean is that if you care so much about 1 brick being painted over yellow, you sure should fucking care about the other 999 bricks. And the only reason you don't is likely because you don't know about them, don't understand them, yada yada.Simply put, if someone actually understands Japanese, honorifics would be pretty far down their list in terms of concerns. SOV to SVO, feminine/masculine speech, keigo, sentence enders, pronouns... The number of significantly more important FUNDAMENTAL elements of Japanese that get completely painted over and destroyed in translation is comically large. If someone understood they would be so horrified and disturbed they would never read a translation. That's why TRANSLATORs don't read translations if they can help it (mainly for J->E; not like Spanish -> English is so destructive). There's 1,000 bricks in this wall, not 1. And therefore I can't help but feel somewhat unmoved whenever I read such an impassioned and self-important post about the value of that 1 brick.
>>287730753Pretty sure there's a rumored part 6
>>287736280That's a terrible analogy. It's more like you have a brick wall and you're tasked with making a similar brick wall but your bricks are not the same as their bricks. Painting over the brick wall is "localization", erasing the fact that it was red to begin with because walls are yellow where you live.
>>287736310It's not a rumor. The author confirmed about a year ago that a sequel will be made, but it might be a while. And it won't be called part 6.
>>287736299Thus, to kind of summarize: It's hard for me to care that much about long speeches about honorifics. It just strikes me as being unfamiliar with the wall. For most works I don't mind tipping my hat to the demand of consumers and leaving 1 brick unpainted. If they don't care about the other 999 so be it. From my perspective it's like a steal; I get to do LESS work, AND people won't even be pissed about the other 999 bricks being painted? Hell yeah. For Bookworm, though, it's just a little more destructive to do so. For bookworm, it's kind of like if in addition to being a wall, there was a big sign saying "ALL-YELLOW WALL! COME HERE FOR THE FULLY YELLOW, FULLY PAINTED WALL!" And while I wouldn't so much mind leaving 1 brick unpainted, it might come off as especially unaesthetic and offputting to people wanting the advertised fully painted wall. (this is stretching the metaphor but that's ok.)>>287736340You can nitpick analogies forever. They are analogies because they are not the same thing as what's being described and one is attempting to relate it to another idea. If you're not interested in what I mean there's no value in replying at all. The same thing I meant can be imagined by saying "you have 999 similar bricks but someone asks for 1 brick of the original to be used instead of the similar brick" or whatever. The important part is the 999 vs the 1, not the act of painting.
>>287736353But translation is inherently about making dissimilar bricks look like similar walls. If you don't actually understand what a translation is then yeah we could never agree.
>>287736474You're getting caught up on "looking like similar walls." The disagreement is superficial. Consider this: "Words are bricks. Japanese has all X bricks. English has all Y bricks. A translator is tasked with shaping a wall of Y bricks to look like X bricks. But after placing 999 Y bricks, someone says they want this one specific X brick there..." Obviously, the walls will never be totally indistinguishable. The words/bricks are different. It's just fundamental. Whether that is framed as paint or something else is immaterial to what I mean which is 1000 problems, 999 being solved one way, and 1 being solved the other way.
>>287736530The solutions are worse the the concessions 99.9% of the time. If it's just OCD that's not my problem but yours.
>>287736561No, I mean, if you handled every problem with "concessions," i.e. if you translated everything like how one wants honorifics to be left untranslated, then you would literally just be writing it in Japanese again. Languages are different. I guess, indeed, this is me kind of proving my point, that the 999 other problems are so complex and disguised that one would need to hold a language classroom to convey them, since otherwise you're imagining "you can recreate Japanese in English perfectly if only you make concessions for honorifics and a few other things."
As someone who has only read the Official TL of Bookworm LN/manga, the fan translation just feels uncultured to me.I very much prefer the air of formality in the Official TL.Also, I can't take Temple Head or House of Lords or any other terms that's stray too far from Official TL's glossary.I still think Volheil is much better than Wolfaniels though.
Bible-making with Rozemyne.
>>287703180Seeing the gap between this season and the last I would assume that has something to do with it.
>>287736684>I still think Volheil is much better than Wolfaniels though.ヴォルヘニールW/Vo - ru - he - nii -ruYou don't mind that the "niiru" / "niel" of the original term is just removed? It's literally coming from the words wolf and spaniel being combined (ヴォルフ + スパニエル -> ヴォルヘニール). Perhaps a case where the words used to fuse together into a new word are too recognizable to English speakers so one prefers an unintelligible term instead.
>>287736757I just don't like the Wolf part. Too close to home.>it's germanI don't know german. As far as I know, all the terms were fantasy language.
>>287736806>I don't know german. As far as I know, all the terms were fantasy language.no no no.... this is the worst take to have of all of them. if it sounds like franken german, respect the franken german
>>287736684>I still think Volheil is much better than Wolfaniels thoughThis one is whatever compared to Quof's abomination that is "Flutrane".
>>287736924If I had known you would seethepost about it for years on 4chan I might have translated it differently. Would not have used umlauts ever though.
>>287736971And I will seethe about it for years to come>Would not have used umlauts ever thoughEven Fruhtrene is better.
That's the reason why there's so many retrograde fics.Kind Ferdinand is treasure.
As a translator I think there's usually no harm in just leaving honorifics in as they provide a level of cultural nuance that most readers are comfortable with, plus people are more likely to complain if they're missing than if they're present. You can certainly make a case for translating them in works like this with non-Japanese settings, or if your target audience isn't likely to know what honorifics mean (i.e. if you're translating something that isn't meant for weebs), but at the end of the day no translation will ever be a perfect substitute for the reader being fluent in the original language and ideally having the lived experience of a native of that culture.Wait are we not talking about honorifics anymore?
>>287737028Maybe. I like how Flutrane sounds and flows but it could be that Fruhtrene would be better. If this were 5 years ago and you were posting this I would probably double-check the word origin and decide that better matching the German word for spring is valuable. So it's not really worth anything but I'll say you're right and the seething is justified (if perhaps over-focused on a single term out of 1,000 in a 100,000 page series). Here's to more years brother.
Is there any interest on Junior Bunko (Kids') version being translated?
>>287737179Would it be different? I would like the new illustrations inserted into the original though.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA>>287737216No idea. I think it's good to have more Bookworm books.
Bookworm crossover fics recs?
>>287737294>open ao3>show only crossovers>honzuki (series), honzuki (anime), honzuki (manga)Why?
>>287736924this reads and sounds close to the source though anon. flutrene/fruhtrene would improve it but it's not night and day
>>287737028That's dumb, you are dumb.
>>287737914It is night and day. Flutrane sounds weird, does not resemble the original word, and couldn't be further away from the two German words that it was based on that actually have meaning.
>>287738020You must be an ESL.Sorry but we are not speaking German here.
>>287738073That's how the author intended it. Kill yourself.
>>287738020>Flutrane sounds weird>フリュートレーネit's as is... just missing an umlaut, but that is a low bar for the reader in terms of experience reading random german words here and there.>couldn't be further away from the two German wordsflu yes, trane as above
My cat speaks german.
>>287737246Huh...
>>287738266Ferdinand is so lucky
>>287738271this but eops
>FINALLY, the right way to translate honorifics!
Something i find funny is that when Ferdinand gift Myne a bed everyone coments how that is innapropiate becayse that is typicvcally only lovers give each other, but then is Rozrmyne the one that gift Ferdinand one of those sofa/bed he tested in her workshop. Ferdinand reallyt does not give a fuck about some social conventions.
>>287739061But they are lovers, I don't see a problem.
>>287738964For me, it's to translate honzuki fanfics using AI, then while everyone else uses Lord/Lady, only Ferdinand get -sama.>why"What about your promise with the previous Aub Ehrenfest?! Weren't you the one who said it, Ferdinand-sama! 'I promised Father. That Sylvester would be Aub, and I would serve Ehrenfest as his aide.' You said 'I have no intention of breaking that final promise with my father.' Wasn't it because that promise was what you truly wanted to protect that you consented to marrying that foolish woman who looked just like Veronica, who abused you so relentlessly?!What is truly important to you is that promise, and your Geduldh is Ehrenfest, isn't it?! It's not supposed to be me!!It's because you said that, that I held back until the very end, swallowing the words 'I don't care about the royal order, please don't go to Ahrensbach!!'!">>287739061Because it's just a bench.
>>287691297>This series should have been yuri
i have ro admit i cried a little durinh this scene . It was cute and touching.
>>287739389I still think they should've inserted it in the scene instead of just the cover and back pages.
>>287739434The same could be said about all inserts. P5V7 and P5V8 are some of the worst examples, since they also straight up spoil some of the most climactic moments in the series.
>>287739483but think of the hype for wn readers in the pre order period
>>287739483I honestly thought there's going to be a timeskip. Then, that scene happens and I was just, "THIS is what it means?!"
>>287739483>spoilYou were going to read it 14 times anyway.
>>287739483World Trigger also does that.It took me embarrassingly long time to notice that the fragments were Jin's future sight that shows what happens in the volume.
>>287739554>Rereading mynez novelWhy ? reading it once was enough for me.
>>287739618>whyBecause there's only so few things that can compare and re-reading it is still fun since it gets so dense after a certain point.
