We need a new story-based Misaka spinoff that is divorced from the Index timeline who's deadweight of a "story" has been nothing but a detriment to its own characters. What happened to Railgun which could not even escape OT was a fucking waste.

One idea is that they could use the number 6 to divorce anime Railgun from the novel timeline and plot a new course. It already has some differences from the manga and novels.

Then the Railgun anime happened and the 177th became a stand alone office led by Konori Mii where Kuroko and Uiharu worked.
Astral Buddy brought it back to Sakugawa but the office had the anime designed conference room design. The Railgun manga then started using the standalone building from the anime during Daihaseisai and Dream Ranker arcs and then to cap it all off, when the Index anime and manga got to the first canon appearance of 177th which should have been set in Uiharu's school, they used the Railgun standalone design.

Kongou actually shows up in the 8th light novel first. The issue where Kuroko is chasing Awaki around, that system scan scene where Kongou and Kuroko argue before getting interrupted by the sound of the railgun hitting the pool, that was originally there.
The Railgun anime took that scene and moved it from early September to mid July to better introduce the concept of Esper schools to the viewer. This scene was also removed from the Index II anime (probably to avoid confusion) but kept for the Index manga, chapter 58.

I think Gemstones might legitimately be final arc material. They're the true origin point for every power system in the series, likely related to the Pure World and possibly to Touma's true nature, and have unused setup that's been sitting around since the OT SS volumes. Kamachi has repeatedly said he knows exactly how the series will end, so it wouldn't surprise me if he planted the seeds for it way back and is just leaving them untouched for as long as they keep letting him cook up new arcs inbetween.
