Tariffs are stupid because the consumer pays for it. My local producer said he had an in on the American markets now, which he hasnt had before which means you'll be buying expensive European goods until the tariffs get negotiated away.
You still need to buy and build the plants to compete with other industries, otherwise you lose market cap

If I had any money in the stock market, I would've liquidated the moment Trump was asked whether or not he cared about the market affects and he said "no". That was several weeks ago. Also when the President and those around him openly said there would be a "temporary" downturn.

If the President is openly saying he doesn't give a shit about the market, isn't that the strongest sell signal you can possibly have?

>>
>>60112116
Under tariffs, your $34/hr. will buy you the equivalent of a 1970's Soviet factory worker's living standards. I don't know how this President thought it'd be a good idea to tax our imports before solving even one of the many structural issues America has: housing, car prices and automobile insurance rates, healthcare, K-12 education, university education, etc. etc.

The economic system is rotten almost to the core and he is expecting it to hold the weight of massive tariffs as well.

Tariffs can be used to keep domestic production safe. It does not build what you do not have.

If only lmao. Somehow I don't think Americans will be getting free healthcare and college tuition.
>>
>>60112156
>Why don't they drop theirs if they're bad for their economy?

Because they are corrupt. Tariffs disadvantage the consumer and benefit special interest groups who pay politicians to implement them via lobbyists.

If the government wants domestic production of something for strategic reasons it should issue subsidies and contracts to purchase such things domestically. The U.S. already does this with federal grants and purchase programs : essentially, almost everything the federal government buys must be made in the USA. But instead it's wanting to pilfer us on a massive level to give money to corrupt special interests, just like these third world countries.

The countries with the highest degrees of protection are the most corrupt. In Brazil they have like 3,000% tariffs on game consoles. Hasn't helped their game industry or economy much, has it?

Nobody does that? Most tariffs are 2-5%. A Harley-Davidson is slightly more expensive in Europe, sure. But people buy it anyway, because it's an exciting motorcycle. American beer costs a bit more, sure. but people buy it anyway because they're curious and they want to try.

2-5% = "yeah ok it comes from the US, they had a lot of costs and risks along the way, makes sense"
40% = "fuck no, get rekt"

I'm applying my market philosophy to my life.

You see, my wife just had a baby and seems less interested in sex. She's very traditional*, 9/10 looks even post-baby. Anyway, I'm thinking of telling her I want to open up the marriage so she can see what she's missing.

Short term, I'm willing to suffer. Once she gives into my demands, I can always tell her I wasn't being serious and patch things up no problem. If she does agree to it, I think in the long term I'll end up dating tons of young women and probably some sort of harem situation will develop, so the few times she dates other dudes early on will be worth it.

Thoughts fellas?

*I came into the marriage with a lot of assets and the family business but decided against a prenup. We are trad like that.

All politicians play games, redirect, fight with each other. When Trump says he is doing something many politicians and the media try to fight him. I also had options paper trading in the background that went +400%. I'm just not too familiar with IV yet to do this kind of trade. I thought that after the tariffs announcement IV could go down and crush the value of these options EVEN if the value of the underlying went in my favor, so I didn't jump at the opportunity.
I find options fascinating though. Every paper trade I made but 1 turned out positive, and the one that wasn't positive was neutral, not even a loss.

Stocks are not going down because of tariff costs, the tariff costs aren't even being paid yet.
They are down because risk is up, since nobody knows exactly how Trump's actions will affect the economy.
When risk is up, prices come down.
In other words: As soon as people see Trump's master plan unfold, and understand that the world is not crashing, but America is winning, the stocks will already be skyrocketed and it will be too late to buy.
I warned you.
Buy while nobody knows wtf is happening.
Buy while risk is high, and prices are discounted.

Saw a reporter ask how long it will take for manufacturing to get to where Trump wants it and he said it's a 2 year plan. That can't possibly mean these tariffs are staying for 2+ years right? Also it has to take more than 2 years to build a factory and get it up and running.

>"I guess the stock was down based on some of the numbers we reported and then it got killed because of ー really, [Oh shーt], OK. I just looked at the screen. I hadn't looked at it." Friedman said of the stock, adding that he thinks the tariffs whacked it.

you really shouldnt be overreacting short term in ETF movement anyways, it's a quick way to bleed your portfolio even if things look glib
if you have a -longterm- bullish outlook then just stay put
if you have a -longterm- bearish outlook then try to pivot or hedge them

steel and aluminum fell because targeted tariffs on them cucked component prices which then got double dip fucked by the tariff announcements yesterday

>>
>>60117481
Unless there's a drastic change of direction in the country, the bottom hasn't been hit yet. If you're planning on holding don't buy yet. Wait until next week at minimum. It will likely take longer than that to hit the bottom since we still don't know how the rest of the world will react to tariffs and other economic data, regardless of tariffs, is alarming too.
If you don't really believe gay bears 100% you can dollar cost average and buy the dip slowly until it hits a support you're comfortable with

I'm sorry, I mean only Silver really fell. Gold went down by not by much.

I've been sitting on Steel and Aluminum stocks for a month now thinking it'd go up from the tariffs. Trump isn't levying reciprocal tariffs on them. They still dropped like a rock today.

I am surprised how little TMF et al had today. I am also surprised NVDA didn't fall below 100.

I stupidly locked myself out of my options account and missed the shorting opportunity of a lifetime. Puts on SPY at 3:50PM today but we'll probably end up in the green now that everyone's panic sold.

Yeah I guess I will just have to wait it out....I got 30k total liquid right now that's not in my brokerage account, it has 84k in it and was almost at 100k before President Comancho. If fucking Unity could pump so I can sell it at least to break even that would give me about 17k more CAD but that's not going to happen anytime soon. It's too risky, if the US economy is about to shit the bed because of king retard then the Canadian economy will probably shit the bed even harder so having that 30k will probably be necessary. I would probably max transfer 20k and I don't think 20k is going to be make or break it in terms of dumping into my s&p stocks I have 60k~ in the s&p 500, the rest is on the tsx60 and Unity stocks. I mean probably could make a decent difference buying the s&p at like a 15% discount if it keeps dumping hopefully it doesn't go past 20%.....

It can pay pretty good, but my area the pay isn't the greatest for guys with my experience. Started about 4 years ago doing it, I was making 32 CAD an hour at my old job which really isn't that great all things considered that's what like....23 USD an hour but again I'm not as experienced as I should be as I was pretty much a labourer for like 1.5ish of those years. I joined a company a contractor my dad knew, I didn't go to trade school but I do want to. Here in Canada, specifically Ontario you can be come a licensed Carpenter but it's not required like it is for HVAC/Plumbing and Electrician. I mostly did trim carpentry, doors and some basic remodel framing etc. You can make 45~ CAD an hour as a licensed carpenter in a union but it's hard to get into it. You can make that out of the union too if not more just gotta be skilled.

I know in the US you can make pretty good money in some places, Canadian wages for a lot of things are just kinda shit especially for the cost of living.

I'm grateful for Trump. That boring ass market of Biden put me to sleep. With Trump comes volatility, where the real money can be made.

It only dropped to 16k which is still higher than even Covid times.

We expect a blow back but we will reap the healthy and powerful economy in the long term

You leftists are so financially illiterate it's crazy. We don't need their imports, most are luxary items or Chinese crap, not consumer goods. The USA has ALL the leverage when it comes to global trade because our market supports these unproductive country's industries. Without our market they can't sell their goods

why every other country can use tariffs to protect their domestic industries EXCEPT America?

Those dumbasses who are driving gold up like crazy will get BTFO because they bought too high. Gold isn't a high vol asset like BTC.
IT IS SUPPOSED to be anti-vol. High vol means someone was manipulating or moving the market with their demand.

I'm someone with >250toz of gold but I really narrowed down once it passed 2800 and into 3000s.

>TMF
20yr isn't falling and folks are pricing in LT bond risk like in 2022 in case of risk hike.
Also Trump wants the 10Y yield down rather than the 20Y.

You actually BUY the long vix? like ^VIX?
I usually get my exposure by selling SVXY puts.

What do you think the differences in our strats are?

It's gonna lure suckers in with 5% gains and then 10% loss than 5% gains than 10% loss

This is how we get to zero.

April is gonna be constant up trends as Trump capitulates on tarrifs one by one, bullish.
Anyone expecting the tarrifs to remain for long has short term memory, this shit is face in the door negotiation.

Is it going to be up or is it just going to be volatile and choppy because he'll just do it again next month?
>>
>>60118328
We already did this once, the market did not react well. The problem isn't just the tariffs, it's that trump is clearly an unstable retard with no plan and no adults keeping him in check.

>negotiation

You do realize FTAs take years to negotiate, right? NAFA took years. Trump is not angry about tariffs. He is angry about structural issues in the E.U. and China where American technology companies are locked out or smashed by subsidies (the latter isn't really a valid point in my eyes, it's not China's fault that America decides to throw its wealth down the drain rather than investing it in innovation). We are looking at legislative work that is going to take several years for both sides to negotiate, if they even want to negotiate. Europe might just use this as an excuse to sell their population on China ties just like they used the Ukraine war as an excuse to sell their population on remilitarization. So these tariffs are pretty convenient for everyone involved at the moment, at least to accomplish their temporary political objectives, and it will be at least a year before we see a motion to start new trade agreements.

Have fun getting this factory without the mandatory EU/German manufacturing tools, you know, the ones the chinks also have to rely on.
