Look at how Trump's treating Ukraine and you'll quickly understand that he considers things like military aid to be a loan that needs to be repaid with interest.
IIRC his philosophy is that the economy is a zero-sum game, thus why he's so fixated on the trade deficit and calls it "the sum of all the cheating" etc.

I just don't understand why americans want to bring back these low skills, low pay manufacturing jobs

It's like working at a mcdonalds when you're 18, going to college get a nice paying job in a booming industry and then decide you've had enough of that and you want to go back to mcdonalds because you don't want 18 year olds taking those jobs, you want 40 year olds doing those jobs

With Ukraine that position at least makes a LITTLE bit of sense. Ukraine is immediately existentially threatened, they need help 'now' if they're going to continue to exist as a nation. Giving them aid now in exchange for payment later could make sense if you're not all that concerned with the actual outcome.
Israel, for all their caterwauling, is not immediately existentially threatened, none of the countries threatening them could actually win a war against them.

Also, for Israel specifically the price he's asking for (beyond tariffs, which he seems to be planning to have replace income tax?) is... Gaza.
Fuck if I know why he wants all that land (as well as Canada, Greenland, Panama), but he sure seems keen on it. I guess he wants the same Mediterranean beachfront properties that Israel's been clamoring about, though, so maybe he just bought in on the hype?

More relevantly to the stock market, though, the important thing with Trump is that sometimes he gets a weird irrational fixation and you just need to recognize that nobody's going to be able to steer him away from that. He's been asking for tariffs for DECADES. They're going to happen, and if you're investing in the idea that they'll be negotiated away then you'll get burned.

While yesterday ended at +-0%… that is not a good outlook, and actually a symptom of impending collapse. It's called a "dead cat bounce" or basically "vegetative twitching" of the stock market.

People are trying to "buy the dip" which for a short time boosts the stock market. But it won't overall reverse the trends. Especially now that Trump has shown he won't accept "zero for zero" tariffs and straight up is making impossible demands like for Europe to drop "non tariff barriers like the VAT"

"Import VAT" is just the regular store VAT I pay on stores in shelves. Dropping the VAT is an impossible demand as it would instantly bankrupt the country, it's one of the main sources of income.

The executive branch is on a power trip run by morons and sycophants. The legislative branch is full of cowards and lickspittles who stop the free-thinking ones from getting anything done. The judicial branch is okayish but too vulnerable to politics.

Long anything healthcare-food related. Wikipedia has it as "JOO-chay".
tl;dr it's a big part of the North Korean state ideology. Take Marxist-Leninism, add in religious devotion to your leader, and you're halfway there.

They've got a lot of it though.
If you're not completely cash only and are only working with folks who are also not reporting, they've got an idea of what you've got. In respect to that, they also ignore a range of error in there just to save money, so you can technically game it a bit too.

American politics have been going downhill since the first JFK v. Nixon debate in 1960. People who listened to the debate via radio thought Nixon won because he was more substantive. Meanwhile, the TV viewers thought JFK won because he was handsome and a better showman than Nixon. Modern politics is just that cranked up to the max.

>I just don't understand why americans want to bring back these low skills, low pay manufacturing jobs
Being reliant on a potentially hostile country that's thousands of miles away on the other side of an ocean is dumb.
Letting your own manufacturing sector wither while your rival's manufacturing sector grows is dumb.

It's not like working at McDonald's then getting a high paying job, them going back to working at McDonald's.
It's like being an elite athlete, going to college on a scholarship, getting a cushy desk job and getting fat and out of shape, then trying to get your old body back as other soft and out of shape rich countries scoff at you for performing manual labor.

I'm not saying Trump's doing it the right way, lots of out shape fat guys keel over and die because they bite off more than they chew trying to get fit again. I'm just staying there is a sound logic and motivation behind Trump's actions.

Neoliberal globalization and the consumer driven service economy was never sustainable, and IT absolutely tragic that people ever believed it was for as long as they did.

>"It's the end of history! If we build up China's economy, they'll become decadent faggots just like us, there's no way they'll use the fact that we've made them the world's factory to build their own strength as a nation."

So if a small cap is a money maker it will never go public unlike in the 90’s. They will just hold it. So the Russell’s a lot worse of than decades past.

That said I thought the world was going to pass a 5% revenue tax on tech like they wanted to do pre Trump.

To the traders who are "recovering and taking a breather" to "see if the tariffs will go through":

Global markets have risen on hopes that the Trump administration will quickly negotiate away many of the reciprocal tariffs announced on April 2.

But they are set to go into effect at midnight, as planned, according to the latest guidance from Customs and Border Patrol, which oversees importing into the United States.

This morning's bulletin "GUIDANCE – Reciprocal Tariffs, April 5 and April 9, 2025, Effective Dates:" gives more detail on what importers can expect.

>Effective April 9, 2025, goods from 83 specified countries will pay country-specific tariffs ranging from 11% to 50% instead of the 10% rate, according to the bulletin.

>China, Hong Kong and Macau: 34%
>European Union countries: 20%
>Japan: 24%
>South Korea: 25%
>Vietnam: 46%
>Importers must report specific tariff classifications under Chapter 99 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule the bulletin says.

>For articles in which at least 20% of the value of article is U.S. originating, the U.S. content will not be subject to the reciprocal tariff.

>Global markets have risen on hopes that the Trump administration will quickly negotiate away many of the reciprocal tariffs announced on April 2.
Guy on the stand in the senate said on a short remark that countries were negotiating lowering the DEFICIT.
Meaning as the graph has shown, if they lower the trade deficit, then they'll be rewarded with a beautiful 10% tariff, which is already astronomically high.

Trump also said that he hopes that tariffs will help to pay the national debt. So they're eyeing the tariffs as a means of acquiring revenue, so they're not going away.

>Ah yes, how terrible. Meaningful Jobs with immediate gratification and tangible results every day
Right?
Imagine thinking that Americans might want to work in a climate controlled factory, instead of delivering door dash in the pouring rain and getting mugged by niggers. It's insane!
Everyone knows that an app driven gig economy is more economically advanced than a manufacturing based economy.

Well, he said that there can be permanent tariffs AND negotiations. He wants the tariffs and he wants to get stuff from other countries. He's wanted tariffs for decades, he's talking about the trillions he'll get over a DECADE. They're not going away until he does. So, must be priced in. People can't be that delusional right?

You've never worked in a factory in your life. It sucks. Most people would rather work doordash. That's why the US has 500,000 job openings in manufacturing right now. The jobs suck and no one wants them.
>>
>>60189277
I understand wanting to onshore critical industries like semi-conductors, steel, cars and ships but these tariffs affect literally everything including industries that simply can't exist in america because there are only so many americans and only so much business the country can conduct on a large scale and even then americans have to consider that some of these industries and jobs don't make that much money.

I'm not jealous of the guys making shoes and t-shirts or the guys who have to farm bamboos and other shit like that, there's no way a job like that will pay a livable wage in a high cost of living country like america so it's better to leave that shit for low cost of living, low income countries. Is the athlete willing to go work the fields for minimum wage or even less than minimum wage especially at a time when everything they need to survive is getting more expensive? I don't think so.

To me the least sustainable thing about the american economy is the hyperfocus endless growth. It's not enough to make X million dollars a year every quarter, you have to make X + 10% million dollars otherwise people are going to lose their jobs. That's the real problem and it isn't going to be fixed by tariffs or bringing back manufacturing to america.

Do I sell my nvidia at -20% to buy at -30% tomorrow or should I hold
