At least it means people are totally fleeing the system.
Absolute economic meltdown is if we see stocks, bonds, and the dollar all getting torpedoed at the same time and at similar rates.
Right now DXY is green, stocks are mixed, and bond yields are up. So we're kind of neutralish today. Still, bonds are the gorilla in the room I think, so that should put a squeeze on Trump.

CNBC was noting how the effective tariff rate even at his "walkback" is still 20% ex China, 28% with China included. Historical tariffs was 3%, so in reality nothing major has changed and we're still in a really fucked position (especially with China). They really went into this thinking they could just do this and things would just magically "work"

> tariffs force rapid reshoring of US manufacturing
> full industrial renaissance starts. the golden era is real

What I meant to say is more like it's clear that the big beautiful finance institutions don't trust this market, USD and/or the country as a whole. It's like there's a game of chicken of pulling out slowly but not alarmingly fast because that would cause a rapid race to the bottom and then nobody gets their expected share back.

education is almost entirely waste though. 99% of it is indoctrinating people with the national founding myth to produce disposable, identical factory drones, and the rest is gay shit, maybe if you are lucky they will have an algebra class.

Many people who think current education is a waste think that it is because the biomaterial being educated is not as malleable as people think. Personally I'm not this kind of guy (I am a white man's burden kind of guy), but I know you know they exist.

Then there is a nested tier of these types who believe that essentially a soft doctrine of caste should be reestablished via a return to "family professions." Essentially English tier social mobility for the USA. I find this gay but I understand that it is basically the bias-over-variance approach to a stable society for a certain type of boring guy.

People think this way because the education system has failed them. 1/3rd of Americans are functionally illiterate and can't understand sequences of events or identify opposing arguments in an essay. They're not even fit for trade school; all they can do is take the coal mining job. And they fall for the lies pumped out by politicians because all they can comprehend are Tiktok or X feeds.
If you haven't read hundreds of books, you are functionally illiterate, and you will be incompetent because your personal experiences alone aren't broad enough to support you.

that 99% of indoctrination isn't necessarily utility for the individual but it is utility for society. Beyond the relative aesthetic charms of colonial era America, I don't have any great love for the founding fathers (besides pussy hound Franklin, who wrote one of the best letters ever https://web.viu.ca/davies/H320/Franklin.advice.mistress.htm). But founding myths can be an important unification for people, and when expressed in ultimately benign ways (4th of july cookouts and shit), they can provide a communal baseline.

I'm a bit deeper on the math side and I received a more classical education on math.
You really unlock new modes of thinking in math when you can see multiplication geometrically and when you think via vectors and linear algebra.

Geometrical thinking used to be a part of classical math education, but they dropped it because it's difficult. I think that's a mistake in retrospect. Calculating and visualizing probabilities becomes so much easier with geometric thinking.

Just because you can speak a language with internalized awareness of its rules doesn't mean you can express that awareness in a systematized way, or that you even have awareness of what the society's standard is. A fucking redneck in bumfuck nowhere doesn't naturally acquire Standard American English grammar, he acquires a set of rules that work for communication in his shithole town. He has to be taught what is grammatically correct for the society as a whole. That's the entire reason study of grammar was ever a subject you fucking moron.

i didn't say shit about objects. objects are meaningless, mostly. i can implement a simple object system in like 20 lines of Scheme. i have done it before, actually. objects are nothing special, they're quite similar to lexical closures in terms of primitives. (using smalltalk definition here obv).
OO is not really fundamental. i can pick 1/3rd of an ad-hoc object system and implement that if it benefits a legible interface. or i can go full OO, or not at all. the question isn't whether FP or OOP or "math expressions" (??), the question is fundamentally about language, as i said.

or, in other words:
>Our design of this introductory computer-science subject reflects two major concerns. First, we want to establish the idea that a computer language is not just a way of getting a computer to perform operations but rather that it is a novel formal medium for expressing ideas about methodology. Thus, programs must be written for people to read, and only incidentally for machines to execute. Second, we believe that the essential material to be addressed by a subject at this level is not the syntax of particular programming-language constructs, nor clever algorithms for computing particular functions efficiently, nor even the mathematical analysis of algorithms and the foundations of computing, but rather the techniques used to control the intellectual complexity of large software systems.

that's not true, the correct grammar is the one the lardass from bumfukistan thinks is correct. grammars in our age are not prescripive, but descriptive.

>descriptivism
It's true that his grammar is correct for communication in his own community, but that isn't what we are talking about. We are talking about whether grammar needs to be taught in school. And the answer in this case is yes, because the lardass from bumfukistan needs to be taught what the society's standard is, or else he's going to have difficulty interacting within it outside of his small community.

The argument from before was:
>you acquire grammar naturally
>therefore you don't need to be taught it in school

So here's how this plays out:
>lardass from bumfukistan naturally acquires language and internalizes the grammatical rules for his own community.
>He acquired grammar so he doesn't need to be taught it in school
>lardass from bumfukistan can't understand anything in class, doesn't progress any further in his education

Grammar needs to be taught so the lardass from bumfukistan can communicate and receive information in this environment.
But, apparantly you either acquire grammar naturally or you don't (the societal standard I mean).

Off the top of my head: semi fabs, Apple will invest $500 billion, ME has already invested, I just read some 80000 South Carolina BMW units in production, Tesla has many factories coming on line this decade, etc. but just look around yourself. And this is only manufacturing. White collar is realizing offshoring and visas aren't so great as well.

take a lexical closure; you initiate its environment, then you can manipulate the captured variables by calling that closure. in essence, you have encapsulated, local state and a mechanism to send/receive messages. this is already a structure similar to an object. so i disagree they're fundamentally different.

the question really comes down to managing state; if your program state is too fragmented and all packed into a rube goldberg machine of structures, yeah that's terrible and why java-style OOP fails so much. but in the end, you can't reduce program state (unless you have duplicated state, which ofc. also often happens with shit java-style OOP or sometimes because it's an actual good idea). you can only shuffle state around, and make damn sure it's all neat and tidy. FP helps with that of course because of immutability and expressions vs. statements. but you can write object-oriented code without falling into that trap. just not... java-style code. if you value your sanity.

i mean, like i said, i've written Lisp code that included ad-hoc object systems. but of course i was still writing functional code; just with objects. objects are like lexical closures or monads or burritos. all just different abstract interfaces. there's not one silver bullet for the underlying problem of state management.

i feel like the problem is that most programmers who do OOP just do OOP. like, they've learned java and that's it. they simply never bother to actually learn, well, programming from the first principle. they never ask themselves "what's the big idea behind this?" so they never understand what lead to the paradigm; they simply accept the paradigm is how it is.
>>60248564

I know FORTH, it was a fad in the early 1990s when I was at university. Not ver useful kek.
We did funny exercises like writing a LISP interpreter in LISP (surprisingly easy), or doing simulations with Smalltalk-80.
So my first employment after uni was in a project writing 100.000 + lines of clean ANSI C. It would still be easy to compile and maintain today, and probably outperform any Java you could come up with.

beautiful in concept and implementation though. i love it for that. factor is more useful for stack-oriented programming, but i gotta be honest... that shit hasn't clicked with me yet, i'm quite bad with it.
>We did funny exercises like writing a LISP interpreter in LISP (surprisingly easy)
yeah, homoiconity makes it pretty simple. LISP is my favorite. it's so very expressive yet simple. i talked earlier about designing domain-specific languages, and that to me is quintessentially lisp. i don't have to worry about syntax or needing to do shit 'pythonic', instead i can just focus on writing a language that describes the problem i want to solve. and that is so damn powerful.
>So my first employment after uni was in a project writing 100.000 + lines of clean ANSI C. It would still be easy to compile and maintain today, and probably outperform any Java you could come up with.
not a big C guy, but i can write some in a pinch. and i'd rather do that than Java for sure.
