Wrong. Protectionism helped China to become a giant they are now. It's just whatever orange retard is doing now is not protectionism, but rather shitty attempt to bully countries into better trade deals for american companies.
What you NEED to do, as government, is invest into key industries, watch them grow, push them into having domestic chains of productions, support them and make sure they have a consumer market to dump their product into. Have a real domestic industry and not fake and gay shit like NVidia. That's what US government did with Space-X and military industrial complex as a whole, it works there.
But it takes DECADES. Orange man have only 4 years. That's the most important advantage China have, they can take their time and don't worry about elections.

I am currently holding on to several puts that I could have sold a couple days ago and made a neat profit, but instead, I am looking at a solid loss. Not life-changing, but it would’ve been nice to have that money.
However, as I sat at market close, staring at the line mid stagnating and crabbing, I began to think about the relation between time and money in my life. At the expense of sounding like a major homo, it really truly sincerely is just money. I know many of you will say I’m a sore loser or calling sour grapes for saying this, but I mean it sincerely. At most, I lost a week’s wages and I still have over 3000 weeks left in my life, if I’m lucky. If I’m not lucky I could die driving home from work in 10 minutes. Then any gains I made would’ve been for nothing.
Recently, someone I know lost the love of their life to cancer. I thought about the fact that I haven’t given them enough comfort and time when I have ample of both to give. And all the people that I love in my life, even those that have hurt me or whom I’ve hurt tremendously, are all so lucky to even be able to exist.
This isn’t a “money doesn’t matter!” Bullshit ramble. Of course money matters. People need it to live comfortable lives and help those they care about. But all I mean to say is that life is the most precious gift of all. It is only given once. And when each of our experiences in this world reach their end, they should have been lived so that we may say that we used that gift wisely for ourselves and the ones we love. What we call misfortune is simply a humility borne out of the appreciation and desire for love.
And so I say, bears and bulls, goodnight. And goodbye.

I wake up at 4:00am and walk out onto my porch. Staring out over the city, I sip my bottled water and keep my spine American STRAIGHT as I know that our new tariffs will keep the dirty Fentanyl off the street. We need that pressure to fix the border.

6:00am: Trump has announced Tariffs on the entire world. Of course. Fentantyl? That's not a problem any more. If we don't Tariff the entire world, how ever will we bring our manufacturing back? We're entering into a golden age of prosperity and everyone should BUY BUY BUY. It's LIBERATION DAY after all, and America's economic surge is taking off now, today, and taking us all with it thanks to the tariffs. I spend my life's savings.

8:14am: Eating my recycled toast, Trump says that there will be some pain. I nod my head along. Of course, it's so clear now. Manufacturing? That will take years to get here, obviously. Just like he said all along. We'll all take a hit to save AMERICA though. Those pining for a golden age are liberal babies, unwilling to suffer for our glorious future.

8:21am: The tariffs are reduced to 10%. Obviously, this was all a negotiating tactic. The golden age is here, now, and Trump has outplayed the entire world. A tear rolls down my cheek as a servant brings me my $50 omelette. We don't need to bring manufacturing back. The high tariffs were just a bluff. It's all coming together. It's all going to work.

8:23am: Trump has denied that he ever wanted tariffs. Of course, they're stupid economic policy, he should just get rid of income tax instead and shrink the government, who needs tariffs? Tariffs won't do anything.

I have 500k€. Can I retire on JGPI and spend 100% of the dividend and not see my 500k€ get diluted under inflation long term?

JGPI is like JEPI but with a bit lower yield and less volatile (MSCI World is used to make the covered call strategy vs SP500). We saw recently the importance of diversification specially for the income part of the portfolio.

I just want to know if this is safe. Who gives a shit about lack of growth as long as you are not lossing money to inflation. I just want to retire now. I only need 1500€ a month and house is paid off also 0 debt and no kids so let me know.

You find that in a lot of post WWII social revolutions the alignments are more pragmatic than ideological. Castro was more of a populist revolutionary than a genuine Marxist, but aligning with the Soviet Union made the most practical sense given that the US was demonstrably not going to be okay with Batista being ousted. Not that he knew it yet, but America would start a long history of chimping out anytime a guy even slightly left of the Christian liberal factions throughout Latin America would win an election, although we had the prototype of that already with Arbenz.

I already gave you a concession on the steelworker shit. Hell I'll even save you the trouble of bringing up the Four Pests campaign (although ecology was not what it is now and western nations were having similar but less devastating problems with maintaining their own ecosystems). But the notion of intentional starvation when pretty much all of Chinese history is littered with famines is another amusing angle. With the restructuring under Mao and the later market reforms under Deng, China doesn't have periodic famines anymore.
And again, there are people who came to power under "extermism" that did genuinely galvanize their economies. Often at significant human cost, naturally, but it's a damn revolution. You have to thank the French Revolution for pretty much everything about modern liberal democracies and markets. Not all extremism in the context of its time is unproductive, but obviously it often involves bloodshed.
