The new York times has a huge piece, basically the entire concept of the tariffs are being pushed as a national emergency yet they are picking exceptions on tech, but apparently glassware, shoes and umbrellas can't qualify for some reason. Also, by picking and choosing companies like this they are literally guiding the market activity at their leisure, smells of corruption and bribes as everyone can be on notice, all companies, all countries at the cost of all certainty and reliability.

Does he know you can't just move chip fabs? Did Elon not tell him? TSMC's fabrication process is precise to the nanometer and they literally have THE most sterile environment on Earth save for artificial vacuums. How does he not know?

So now that the US market is behaving like a Shithole exchange, are there even any "stable western" markets left? Everyone listed in the US because of stability, think we'll see corporate outflows?
>>
>>60271486
You can, it will just take a very long time. None of the things you mentioned is a problem, Intel used to be the best in this business and they had no issues with their fabs. It just takes a long time to build this out. Fundamentally TSMC isn't doing anything unique.
>>
>>60271486
I don't understand why they're giving up their crown jewel by building plants in the US. If any company can tell the Americans to eat shit, it's TSMC. The fact is, without cutting edge fabs, the west won't care if China invades Taiwan.

Everyone is always going on about China invading, why wouldn't they build in the US?
>>
>>60271494
Out of the US memekaret I would only buy Nvidia, but even there, markets are so short sighted they don't see Xi basically got the green to invade Taiwan by the next 2 years.
>>
>>60271509
Because having production limited to Taiwan gives the west a very strong incentive to prevent a Chinese invasion.
>>
>>60271495
>None of the things you mentioned is a problem
They are. TSMC's 4nm process is so ridiculously precise it'd be faster to build an 8nm fab and scale down across years than transplanting the one in Taiwan.
>they're giving up their crown jewel by building plants in the US
Plants are meaningless unless they carry the latest node shrinkage, and, see above, it's basically impossible to move the 4nm (and 3nm, and 2nm, etc) process anywhere else.

Why they can't just load the machines from TSMC in a cargo and move them to US?
>>
>>60271547
The plant is built and it's "outputting 4nm chips with the same quality as Taiwan". But it actually isn't doing that. Due to SAND and DUST infiltrations inside the fabrication zone that makes it way expensive to produce chips at the same price as Taiwan. Turns out building EXTREMELY SENSITIVE INSTRUMENTS in a fucking DUSTY ARIZONA DESERT isn't a good idea. Who knew?
>>
>>60271562
Source for this? I know fabs filter the shit out of the air to prevent this kind of thing.
>>
>>60271564
Yes that's exactly my point anon, filtration systems in the Arizona fab are expected to filter inordinately more particulates than their Taiwan equivalents, for clean rooms that are twice as large.
>>

If you could just trasnport the brains, manufacturing culture, diligency, controlled environments, supply lines and the plants to produce high end chips then a lot of countries would have cheap RTX5090 equivalent cards for sale. It would be a good thing but extremely unrealistic to accomplish in real life. Maybe it could be done in some countries as a concentrated government, industry and university project (that's communism we can't have that lmfao). That's why the chips are like a strategical resource that warrants war in a strategy game, US is right to chimp out about it but it could be done in a more planned and sophisticated way.

An aquifer in a desert is usually well below the topsoil and it's very old.

Yeah they are. I'm not saying this is the ideal buying opportunity for all the AI/robotics positioned companies but with a long enough timeline (5-10 years min) I can't help but feel insanely bullish.

>Is anyone else just incredibly bullish on Robotics/AI
I'm skeptical. It really depends on how much AI progresses in the next decade. Will it stagnate, or will it push ahead to the point where you can get a computer to "understand" the world in a way that's close to human-level. Yann Lecun thinks these LLMs won't get us there, but honestly, I don't think anyone knows. Every tech megacap is throwing an astronomical amount of money at the problem in the hopes that it will be the one to crack AI, but it's a crapshoot at this point.
What I know for sure is that current "AI" is nowhere near being able to run a useful household robot.

>>
i'm starting to think AI has hit a wall. We've yet to really see a quantum leap over GPT4-tier LLMs. There's been improvements on muh benchmarks, but nothing truly revolutionary... ultra-refined mediocrity doesn't get you to genius
>>
>>60272158
I think a more relevant AI usage right now is handling massive amounts of data in real time for various different processes/automation/weapon platforms. General intelligence and surrogate AI gf meme discussion is for later imo

Even there I'd be cautious about its prospects. You can't rely on software that hallucinates 10% of the time for safety critical applications without having a human in the loop, which defeats the purpose.

But you don't need ASI/AGI, that's the actual moving goal post meme.

All you need is human parity in only the domains required for manual labor jobs in order to be a viable economic alternative to the human workforce.

I would typically be skeptical but Figure AI (MSFT), Apprtronik (Google), Tesla (optimus) are all pouring billions into R&D and manufacturing infrastructure AND already ahve industry partnerships with little to no media attention.

Even Lutnick admits that automation/robotics is what will largely allow for domestication of US manufacturing in the context of the ongoing tarrifs...almost as if this was the plan all along.

You both are right, there's some trvkes in your words. Always remember to be cautious when the AI meme gets pulled up in a discussion lol.
But it's like betting against the market, betting against COMPOUND INTEREST if you refuse to see the potential in it.
Ultimately it's not so much about what sort of a Product™ some company offers, more like how can future policies revolve around it and make it useful to the country and general populace. In /smg/ terms, I see only gambling as to what company can deliver this hype product eventually.

"Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

NOBODY is getting “off the hook” for the unfair Trade Balances, and Non Monetary Tariff Barriers, that other Countries have used against us, especially not China which, by far, treats us the worst! There was no Tariff “exception” announced on Friday. These products are subject to the existing 20% Fentanyl Tariffs, and they are just moving to a different Tariff “bucket.” The Fake News knows this, but refuses to report it. We are taking a look at Semiconductors and the WHOLE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CHAIN in the upcoming National Security Tariff Investigations. What has been exposed is that we need to make products in the United States, and that we will not be held hostage by other Countries, especially hostile trading Nations like China, which will do everything within its power to disrespect the American People. We also cannot let them continue to abuse us on Trade, like they have for decades, THOSE DAYS ARE OVER! The Golden Age of America, which includes the upcoming Tax and Regulation Cuts, a substantial amount of which was just approved by the House and Senate, will mean more and better paying Jobs, making products in our Nation, and treating other Countries, in particular China, the same way they have treated us. The bottom line is that our Country will be bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. We will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Paul Oldfield (born 30 March 1966), better known by his stage name Mr Methane, is a British flatulist who started performing in 1991.He briefly retired in 2006, but restarted in mid-2007. He claims to be the only performing farter in the world. He worked on the railways as a train driver. He took an early retirement after a train's brakes failed at Sheffield. After this incident, he then started focusing on his flatulence performances.

In the 1990s, Mr Methane produced a parody of the Phil Collins song "In the Air Tonight" titled "Curry In the Air Tonight." Tony Smith, Collins' business manager, refused to let Mr Methane release his parody version, stating that, "This is a very serious song and we cannot see any reason for it to be taken so lightly." Letters between the two parties were reproduced on The Smoking Gun website.[6]
In July 2004, Q magazine voted Mr Methane's album mr methane.com the second-most-bizarre album ever released in a Q special edition titled "The 150 Greatest Rock Lists Ever".[citation needed]
In 2009, Oldfield auditioned for Britain's Got Talent, where he announced his intention to "put the art into fart",[7] but failed to make it through to the live finals. He gave a flatulist performance of the "Blue Danube" waltz and was "buzzed" out by all three judges—despite two of them, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, laughing uncontrollably, while Simon Cowell called him "a disgusting creature". He received negative reactions from some audience members, while others were seen to be in hysterics. That same year, Mr Methane also auditioned for Das Supertalent in Germany, but was eliminated in the semi-finals.

The "dip" was still 30% higher than my average buy-in price for an average stockmarket p/e ratio of 23 at decreasing forward eps, besides the retard premium was too large for it to be equitable.

>Is anyone else just incredibly bullish on Robotics/AI
No, because I am an engineer. We don't have batteries that can power a humanoid robot reliably over an entire workshift and their small form factor means we can't just bundle laptop batteries like in a car. Those robots are also weak and can't do precision tasks, they are memes basically. There will be advances in those boring stationary factory robots fed from a direct current but not these for a while
