Buddy its just part of the game, I sold GOOGL at $210 because I was sure it would drop to $180 on the DOJ case remedies. More fool me.

GRRR is still $450 Market cap with a $1.5 - $2.5 Billion contract in this one deal with Freyr alone. They still have $4 Billion in potential contracts that are approaching closing stages and announcements.

$20 is stupidly cheap this will easily fly to $100 next year and you will FOMO in only to get dumped on when it outstrips its valuations once more as it did in Feb this year.

Okay time to nerd out
Back in the day investing in the stock market was exactly what you would think. People would buy individual companies they thought would perform well. And you hope you picked winners.

And then a nerd known as William Sharpe won the 1990 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for developing the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) which introduced the concept of "Beta". Basically the most efficient portfolio of stocks would be one that owned all of them based on their respective weight in the market. And picking individual companies was inefficient, as were funds that tried to pick and choose winners.

Then a chad known as John Bogle (founder of Vangaurd) put this into practice by popularizing the index fund. A fund that would just buy the S&P 500 instead of buying and selling funds the managers thought would do well. Because they had nothing to do (just buy the index and ignore it) the index was incredibly efficient and low cost. Initially mocked as "Bogle's Folly" it ended up doing absurdly well averaging 13% yearly returns (and this includes the bear markets where shit hit the fan)

So yeah, investing now and days is as simple as buying the total market. (ETF's now instead of index funds since they are just a more efficient version of them) Not just the S&P 500 but the entire globe. With Vanguard offering a product VT which is the etf for the global market. You can just open a Roth IRA at Fidelity and throw it in

If you end up filling that up you can just open a normal brokerage with them. But because is silly things known as foreign tax credits you should break up VT into VTI and VXUS (Total America and Total International)

This should be taught in school but it's not. 60% of Americans own stock via retirement and only 20% have a brokerage account. And it's half that for Europoors. Only 33% own stocks via retirement and 11% own individual stocks

This is partly a culture thing. Americans have a "fuck yeah we can do anything, conquer the world!" attitude when it comes to business and investing and Europeans are more a sad old man with a "what's the point" attitude and a bureaucracy that stifles what they do have

Depends on where you live and the different envelopes you have. As a frog, there's a 30% flat tax, which is worse than you, but basically you only pay that in the absolute worst circumstances if you don't optimize shit. I have a "PEA" envelope where I can invest 150K, even on 2x leveraged nasdaq ETF, and I'll be taxed 17.2% as long as this PEA envelope is 5 years old (I opened mine as soon as I had my first job, so I'm good on that front). And as long as you do your trading operations within the envelope, you don't get taxed. Only what's coming out of the envelope gets taxed, meaning you can play the very long game and abuse it for trading. Then there's also our "Assurance vie" envelope that is basically unlimited but also has other rules you can abuse a bit.
There's also the fact your tax depend on your income tax bracket. Which sucks if you have a decent paying job, but let's say you play the long game and only decide to use your stonks money to FIRE. Well, you suddenly don't hzave a high paying job anymore, you live off your divies, and get taxed as if you have a very low poorfag revenue. Meaning you pay low taxes on your gains.
If you play the long game, you definitely can abuse the system.

You're taking a big gamble on something with little liquidity. PE firms tend to be good at what they do, scaling up little companies fast and then getting them to IPO or just gutting a zombie company and getting every last drop out of them before they collapse. But that's not how YOU make money, that's how the PE firm makes money.
People call publicly traded stock prices here "clown world", it's nothing compared to PE.
R"ddit hates them because they are stupid nostalgic consooomers that are sad their Toys'r'Us shutdown, as if a fucking toy company with a massive real estate footprint could even be viable today.
Again, I wouldn't do it if I were you. The only way I'd mess with anything in the PE space is working for a PE firm.

Well, I think Powell only said it's time to think about cutting, not that they'll cut.

>He noted that the "balance of risks appears to be shifting," with downside risks to employment increasing and inflation risks remaining contained, suggesting that the current restrictive monetary policy "may warrant adjusting our policy stance."

But he also said
>On the shift in policy stance: "The upside risks to inflation have diminished. And the downside risks to employment have increased. The time has come for policy to adjust."

And he was proven wrong by the CPI. And he did the same thing in December 2023, right before inflation increased in Q1 2024 cause he's an idiot.
>>

Yeah, the outlook on them is that they likely won't turn a real profit until 2 years from now at best, but they're legitimately under a period of rapid expansion and cost-cutting right now that makes it look really feasible. I genuinely think it's a good stock if you're patient enough to hold for that long, it's just in a somewhat precarious position right now and if things go wrong in just the wrong ways it could make them go out of business. The next year in particular is really critical. I can't truly recommend it as a major investment because of the risk, but it's got some real high risk high reward potential.

How feasible do you guys reckon it is to write your own script to read the FOMC speech as soon as it's posted and trade based on that?

Most businesses are actually pretty simple, just pretend they're lemonade stands and substitute lemonade with whatever product they're selling. If you don't understand why the company is worth as much as it is, it's usually because they're selling bullshit.

Do you think you can write a faster script than the Asian quant who makes a million dollars a year on Wallstreet?
>>
>>60952352

its possible, there are many models trained to convert speech to text, then you simply setup a script to look for key words or phrases and trade based on them
>>
I'm sure this will all turn out OK.

not to mention if you are running the script on a broadcast, those broadcasts are often minutes behind real time even when "live" and quants probably have someone in the room streaming directly to their servers
