Quite the market battle for $47 right now. I wonder if the Chinese markets being closed will have an effect on helping keep the price down. The Chinese almost certainly have buyers working the NY market and taking delivery for shipment to China. I don't expect that will stop even if the Chinese markets are closed.

I’m very interested in getting into precious metals. When you guys are stacking, is there any particular ratio of silver/gold you try to keep? I was thinking starting with a 1/10oz Gold Eagle and maybe like 4-5oz silver, and keeping that up every 2-3 months as my wagie checks allow.

My ratio is currently at 100:1 silver to gold. I feel like I could own a bit more gold but both stacks are worth close to the same amount atm. If you're just starting, I'd probably dive in to silver a bit at first and get a taste for PM since it has a much lower cost barrier.

depends on the price/premium and I guess would even depend on the grade.

Can you give us more details?

I only have 2 graded coins, one is a ms68 1988 maple leaf and the other is a 1997 ms68 maple. I was on the hunt for both of those (not slabbed) but the cost for them slabbed was very decent and I am already in the green on the 1988. In the case of the 97 most that are unslabbed are over 150 CAD. There are only a dozen or so slabbed at a higher grade so the premium to me was worth it. I paid less than 150 CAD for it slabbed for reference.

I was predicting about 150 for us to go back to a relatively fair 1:25 ratio (given current gold prices). Of course gold will shift as we go so if it keeps going up and we still aim for a 1:25 then silver could go into the 200s.

>What’s a good ratio of gold/silver to purchase?
/pmg/ policy always habeen about 1:100. That's an easy figure to remember and gives you a larger exposure to silver who will reward you handsomely if silver moon hard, but who still costed you about 50/50 gold/silver in term of $$ invested.
Which means it will keep you safe, but still feel like you hit the jackpot if silver outpace gold. That's a great balance between greed and safety for starter. The 1:100 figure also is a nice reminder on to what purchase depending on the ratio, if the G:S ratio goes north of 100, you must imperatively purchase silver only, because such high ratio never sticks.

It is of my personal opinion that silver is currently the optimal buy given historic ratios. Id recommend getting yourself 100 ozt of the cheapest silver 1oz pieces you can get your hands on. There are also loads of spot deals you can find on findbullionprices.com (I think that’s the name) that you should clear out before trying to get deals on eBay (and run the risk of scam). 1/10 Ozt gold is cool, but typically carries a heavy premium. Id recommend getting LMU gold or low premium 5gram bars.

Maybe, or maybe not

GSR went up to 1:100 because of its monetary value, not because of its industrial value.

Looking at elemental scarcity, GSR should be 1:7 and PGR should be 1:15, but central banks around the world hoard gold and only gold.

Platinum and Silver will both experience a short squeeze due to production shortages a decade in the making, but it is unknown if those will become monetary metals. Especially with Platinum production dominated by South Afria, and Palladium production domninated by Russia.

>Do you guys think we will hit a new adjusted ATH?
The idea of an all-time high is somewhat of a game mindset misnomer, though, isn't it? I mean it's almost like:
>Watch us debase our currency into an new ATH!
One of the realities that I continue to harp on is that $700 silver means $70 for 5 pounds of potatoes. Potatoes are on average 1/10th of an ounce of silver throughout history so right now a pound of Potatoes is approximately 6.80 meaning 68 fedbucks is where silver belongs right now, so yeah ATH incoming.
>Its was like 49 bucks in the 80s which would be about 180 bucks in todays world.
Will there be a point where silver surpasses the potato ratio?
Sure, it's possible, usually there's a back and forth between currency debasement and monetary corrections, but once you take into account the monetary suppression, it has been ongoing for over 100 years, and the systems of control are being demolished to be replaced by digital ones, then you say, "hmmm $700 silver is possible by 2030 but what society will look like in these circumstances is extremely ugly.

Stackers don't buy because they want to speculate. Yes, it's reasonable to believe an asset will apprciate in an inflationary environment. Some of us have been stacking for decades. We bought silver when it was high, low and high again. Of course we believed that eventually, silver would go up, but that was only one of the reasons for buying it.

Having a portable store of wealth outside the banking system is a source of comfort. Gold and silver are a hedge against currency devaluation, bank closures, account freezing or in the worst case, systemic financial collapse.

None of these reasons involves making a quick buck off silver, and honestly if one wants to flip silver, playing the paper markets is a much smarter way to speculate than buying physical, due to the large (5% typical) haircut on BOTH the buy and sell side. If one bought silver and tomorrow it went up 10% and he sold, chances are he would lose money after paying the buy and sell comissions.

Stackers by definition are in it for the long haul. As I was saying to a friend, silver will at minimum keep pace with inflation, and if there is any kind of serious financial event, stackers will likely be the only ones in their neighborhood with any real liquidity.

The next door neighbor's house may be bigger, newer and more expensive than my shitty little 60 year old house, and he might have a nice car, boat and motorcycles. But if all his assets are illiquid, and he needs to pay for any emergency, he's going to need to sell something at firesale prices because nobody has any liquidity. Guess who's in a position to buy?

Many stackers also have a numismatic component, having some amount of collectables that they paid a high premium not justified by the intrinsic value. We have some pieces that fall into that category.

There is a lot of overlap between the stackers and the prepper community.

I suspect China's gold holdings are vastly under reported. I've heard estimates based on Chinese gold mine output, (China exports 0 domestically produced gold) and Chinese gold imports, that China may actually have 45,000 tons.

You have to consider that to "prevent money laundering and crime" China requires dealers to collect personal identifying information for any gold purchases above a certain amount, effectively allowing China to "nationalize" much of the privately held gold.

They will probably eventually want to pass a law here where you need digital ID/CBDC to buy and sell gold and silver, effectively registering your purchases with the government for convenient taxation/confiscation.

SPY or QQQ won't protect me from my own government freezing all my bank accounts. It won't protect me if there is a systemic financial crisis. It won't protect me if the EU manages to start a war with Russia. It won't even protect me from hyperinflation.

>Gold and silver are guaranteed SAVINGS with zero counterparty risk
It's not an issue about your faith in dogma, but your surrender to your circumstance in this realm, and understanding that silver and gold have intrinsic value here. They always have, and always shall.
I myself have faith (the substance of things hoped for and the proof of things unseen) not blindly but substantiated and evidenced through natural laws. I hoped to be wealthy, and possessing silver and gold substantiated that hope.
It's much easier to talk about it than to be about it. Being dependent on others when you yourself are capable of having others depend upon you. Not like my fren so eloquently phrased it,
>I'm not a money grubbing hand rubber.
Instead, with the purpose of autonomy to help others and be substantiated in their own actions, which aren't dependent or beholden. Not the moneylender or moneychanger, just a man and not a boy. This mentality is what is missing from the dialog. The 2nd Amendment secures the rest except financial and monetary tyranny. God made silver and gold for this.
Excellent post fren.

No but I would be down to do electrolytic refining of sterling. I already melt metals like aluminum down into ingots.

They are probably more valuable in their silverware form especially if they have a patina on them.
Their melt value could possibly be worth much less depending on the manufacture and condition of the item to the right seller.

Historically, pullbacks are a normal part of price action. Sellers take profits and higher low is established and buying continues to drive the price upwards. But the silver market is not a market of buyers and sellers. It is tamped down per the admission of former CFTC Rhostin Benham.
Adjusting for inflation, 1980 and 2011 highs should be $250 and $68 respectively.
I don't think physical inventories can accommodate normal price action. The decades of manipulation could be ending as we speak. We won't really know beforehand. But I don't see a cool off happening, the price of silver is comically low at a time when all other commodities are making all time highs.
I think it's a little scary right now to see where things go.

Both are good at this point.
I think there will be a spike and post-spike silver will drop sharply.
Same with gold, though maybe less extreme.
I could be wrong, I just think that silver has yet to go through a real run.
Even if you go with gold, it will also go up over the next couple years.
In either case you're both preserving wealth and also locking in some gains.
Silver just did a massive move over this last year.
If you're new to silver, maybe the upsides aren't as significant.
Again, both look like they have untapped growth potential.
I'm all in on silver.
If I fail I do so on my own terms, having made my own decisions.

Silver will likely go up more multiples than gold. Three or four multiples are probable for gold over the next 24 months or less. Possibly 8 multiples for silver in the same time frame.

183 oz isn't an onerous amount to move, store or transport. It would fit in one ammo box. One can get over 750 oz in one .50 cal steel ammo can.

Assuming the GSR goes to historic 15:1 . . . that's the gamble.
I know I'm gambling.
I have to identify the spike, sell during that period, and hit key days.
This is no small task.
Realistically, I will 100% be able to spot the spike months after it's happened.
The question is if I might catch it as it's happening.
I don't think anyone will know other than insiders; which I'm not.
This means I have to go before, during, and after the spike to average everything out.
I might catch a bump before the spike without knowing it and miss out.
I might catch the spike too late and catch it on the way down.
Many possibilities.
Some are outstanding and others are unfortunate.
This is true speculation.
Gambling.
Except I'm doing it with precious metals that I physically own.
The funniest thing about this is that it seems to piss off (((them))).
Which makes it a fun game for me.

Fiat currency corrupts society from the very root. Fiat is debt, loaned into existence at interest, fractional reserve lending amplifies creation of interest bearing debt, and in both cases, require that the fiat supply expand to create the addional fiat currency to pay the interest.

This creates a positive feedback loop, which in engineering always results in self destruction.
https://youtu.be/XggxeuFDaDU

But what's even more insidious is that it turns the entire society into a debt based system, every racing to outrun the inflation which benefits the debtors, at the expense of the creditors. Rewarding debt, and punishing savings.

It turns the entire basis of the entire economy from savings, to artificially created debt, and allows politicians to easily by votes using printed money. One particular ethnic group tends to benefit most from this system. Some suggest they've gotten so powerful that they effectively control the US government.

Hard money takes away nearly all of their power.

This is why the goldpill is forgiveness because debt doesn't exist. Hard money is real, with weight and use. It is impossible to counterfeit and hard to get. Either gold or silver is great.
So long as you have the physical object and not electronic claim.
Go to a local coin shop, purchase the physical object, and carry it home.
Then and only then will you be a stacker.
Which is better?
Depends on your tastes.
Gold is more stable.
Silver has more potential.
Both are good stores of value.
My preference is silver.
Make of that what you will.

I think most people seriously underestimate the future purchasing power of their precious metal savings. We joke about the Mercury dime meme, but it's meant to highlight that when a debt based fiat system collapses, the economy also collapses, as do the asset values when priced in silver or gold, simply because there is so little silver and gold to go around.

Things become dirt cheap, and the average stacker (who has chosen to share) on this board has, I would guess around 500 oz of silver.

In the event of a dollar collapse (hyperinflation) those 500 oz would be more than enough to buy a nice farm, machinery, and some animals, seed, and everything else needed to start farming.

Or alternately, be more than enought to buy a fully equipped, running small business in a small town.

In todays terms, take the current 500 oz spot price and multiply it by TWO orders of magnitude. So 5000 per 100 oz = 25,000 x 10^2 = a post collapse value of $2.5 million in today's dollars.

You can confirm this yourself by just comparing the ratio of money supply to oz of silver back when silver was monetized, with the ratio of oz of silver to the fiat supply today.

When the fiat dies, all that is left is silver and gold. That is your NEW money supply divided by the total universe of stuff for sale.

Mercury dimes will almost certainly buy at least 30 minutes of professional services from women in a particular industry, when the fiat system collapses.

After much thought on the topic, the only thing you can do is your best.
Faith that God will present you with paths and will guide you when needed.
If you can't control or direct the world, then all you can do is do the best you can wherever you are.
For me the key is helping those who understand and appreciate the help.
Cast not pearls before swine or what is holy before dogs.
Many Christians have yet to understand how they've been manipulated.
The best you can do is expose duplicity and discuss hostility.
If they respond, then you may proceed.
If they turn their nose, then you move on.
I view information dissemination as a duty and a privilege.
I was once newly redpilled and had no one to help me.
My goal is to help those who are newly redpilled and help them.
I see where you are and I like your orientation.
May God protect and help you.

>the "collapse" will be much better than people think
It will after the first few months. Very rough at first, especially for the broke, hungry, helpless city people who migrate to the rural food producing areas begging for help.

Expect unwelcome signs to pop up in rural communities.

If you have gold and silver, you will get first class treatment and a complimentary bedwarmer.

There would be like 6 ammunition types that would be necessary in the US. The ones you named and also .22lr and 12ga. You could bridge the gap between 5.56 and .308 by sticking with 7.62x39 and consolidate on the AK platform. It won't be the power that a .308 is, but if you're short on space or cash, it's not a bad option, and it shits all over a 5.56.

I would argue that it's regionally specific.
.22lr is the most ubiquitous across the planet.
After that it would be a pistol and then rifle caliber.
There's no harm in expanding to four calibers.
Just know that you'll likely want to trade with specific types of people.
In my area, it's 9mm, 5.56 and .22lr.
You will need to look at your area and know the people with whom you might trade.

I keep like 60 days suply on me but i probably need to refresh it, had it since covid, i know the MREs are good and so is the freeze dried shit so not worried about that.

Dang, I totally forgot about shotguns.
I know little about firearms other than beginner info.
It's true that AK, shotguns, and .308 hunting rifles would be great in the U.S. in almost all regions.
I'm a cityfag, so it's pretty simple where I am.
The DNC had limited what can be purchased here, so you just buy what's available.

I've been meaning to re-read that.
Sometimes I think it might be relevant to U.S. economic collapse.
I hope not.
Good to understand, regardless.
Thanks for the link.

We are cheap so we buy flats of canned goods like beans, soup, stag chili, kraft dinner, instant noodles, spam etc, and eat it regularly.

So we buy a years worth, and every six months or so, we buy another six months worth, so we have a rotating approximately 1 year supply of food that we actually like to eat. We also have a case of MREs and a case of "humanitarian rations" but those are reserved for emergency situations like travelling in a vehicle and it breaks down. We do have some wheat, flour and rice in sealed containers. Also a couple hundred pounds of sugar in sealed plastic buckets.

>If you can coast though the first month you are gonna be ok.
This seems correct.
In most catastrophes, the event and immediate aftermath are the most dangerous.
If you just have food and water, you could hole up and wait for the whole thing to blow over.
>>
>>61014255
Yeah i need to do the sealed buckets of flour, rice, sugar and wheat that shit will last near forever is property sealed.
I proabbly also need to rotate out my caned good more then anything. Spam, chili, shit like that. Oh dried beans.
>>
>>61014263
Unironically yes. and iirc in that bosnia one, i think it was that one at least, he mentioned that the best thing you can do, is to NOT look prepared because people who looked like they were prepped were the first to get robbed. But your place is just a bit beaten up, not super run down but looks lived in, they knew it was not worth the effort to rob you.

How do you seal containers well enough to prevent worms and shit from infesting it?
>>

>How do you seal containers well enough to prevent worms and shit from infesting it?
The secret is oxygen removal. Regular poly buckets are permiable to oxygen so you would ideally have a aluminized mylar bag inside the bucket. Oxygen absorber packets reduce the available oxygen in the bag so that any eggs cannot hatch.

12-18 months is the max recommended shelf life for canned goods according to the Mormons.

I go to great lengths to make sure I look nice enough to be presentable, though not look like I have anything worth taking. All the way down to choices in footwear, wallet, and watch. Looking bland is best. Thieves look for easy scores. So, just look like you're not a good score. Bonus if you drive a car made before 2010.

I recently realized that I talk about Casio watches and collecting pennies fairly often. Casio watches is fine, however collecting pennies suggests wealth retention. I might cool off on discussion of pennies just in case it becomes something notable for possible thieves. It's funny that behavior also becomes a consideration.

In Canada yes, in UK all white metals are taxed.

Paladium is taxed in Canada, even paladium Maples.

I'm of the opinion that it's fine, just start out with the big well tread online bullion dealers. Many have a "starter pack" of 5 oz of silver or a gram of gold at spot, which is great if you've got the cash to burn. Don't get them all at once, right now is the time for patience and DCA. And keep a look out, some of them require signature on delivery.

Why do they do tamp? Is it the government to keep military equipment cheaper? So insiders can slurp cheapies?
>>61013799

>>
>>61016045
>Why do they do tamp?
They tamp because they don't want money metals to be revealing that there are issues in the economy. They want people to believe their fiat-dollary-doos retain their purchasing power and stable gold and silver prices are the number one sign of that. Major economic and financial paradigm shifts occur when banks revalue gold. And they don't always do it on their own, monetary malfeasance can usher in higher gold prices all on its own if it is not controlled. Shorting precious metals is a hedging action taken by mines to reduce the price risk in their product. But a far larger participant in the metals market is actually these bullion banks. The banks' #1 product is credit and controlling the price of metals is one of their biggest prerogatives.
